http://www.gourmetsleuth.com/Dictionary/O/Old-Bay-Seasoning-6729.aspx#ixzz2sNxK60VYOld Bay Seasoning dates back to 1939, Baltimore, Maryland. The spice was a "secret" mixture concocted by German immigrant Gustav Brunn. Today Old Bay seasoning is used in many crab recipes from a basic crab boil to specialty crab cakes. The product is available at most grocery stores as well as online.

you'd have to ask the guys involved for more background....the FAQ does have something on it.... but still not sure. And maybe that's ok.
Sounds like a Baltimore/Delmarva thing?MattFancy said:Old Bay is the ####. I put it on everything!
they were the original sidelines.com message board guys who gravitated to thehuddle.com, started a spin off bored called the ffwarroom.com and eventually came here. the old bay company had an unused chat room on their website that these guys adopted as their game watching/circle jerk gathering place. i was invited but never went. it seamed kinda gay.Aaron Rudnicki said:you'd have to ask the guys involved for more background.SaintsInDome2006 said:...the FAQ does have something on it.... but still not sure. all I know really is that there was a group of posters here who used to congregate elsewhere in a chat room or message board. They called it Old Bay Chat or OBC.
Somehow they got their own emoticon back then.
