I haven't worn a pair of jeans in probably 12 years.
I haven’t owned a pair of blue jeans in 40 years. I did relent and started wearing black jeans around 2016.
Stopped wearing khakis in the late 1990s. Gave up on fleece when all the crypto & tech bros made in de rigueur. Just don’t like wearing what
everyone else is adopting.
Around my city there are definitely events it’s more or less expected smart casual means all black. But I’ve been getting away from blacks and grays, adding a lot more color. It’s fun.
Was never a jeans & tee shirt kid growing up. Just thought cords were more comfortable in the 70s & 80s.
Have been wearing 3-button Henleys for 35 or so years. Prefer layers in the fall or winter. Might be tees and long sleeve crew neck under a chambray or a flannel. Or white tee, dress shirt & cardigan. Occasionally a crew neck sweater.
Not too many suits, I only need a couple options for funerals or weddings. More sport coats than I need but they’re classic styles that are more or less timeless.
Have around 10ish pairs of footwear. Might be colorful Doc Martens or pull on Chelseas or loafers or boat shoes or sneakers or wing tips or Birkenstocks.
When I had a lot of discretionary income (most of my life) I didn’t mind spending more to acquire good quality. Well made should equate to longer utility, but as with anything, not everything that is expensive equates to high quality.
These days I’m a pauper on a fixed income, and by necessity have to be more frugal. Just means I have to buy off-season (on sale) or be selective about discounted sample sales - or scrounge consignment items at thrift stores.
I don’t know if I dress my age or not, I don’t consider myself fashionable. I am aware and have self-awareness - I dress at the level appropriate for what I am doing or where I’m going. Have never gone for looking like a slob. I definitely have relaxed clothing I don’t wear outside of home but if something is threadbare it goes in the bin.
All things in moderation.
