I don’t even understand the question fully. Mrs APK makes me wear stuff to dinners and meet ups with other adults — khakis, sweaters, button ups, etc.

I have no idea why people feel the need to pay money for clothes to “look better.” It seems like typical social status signaling behavior — and I don’t give a **** about that.

I’d be glad to wear jeans, running pants, cargo shorts, whatever with a t-shirt or “zip up” every single day.

I rarely dress to impress people unless it's business or woman related (not married guy). I like nice stuff because of how it feels/fits on me and the fact quality, timeless pieces can last decades. Normally I can't get that stuff at Walmart or Sams Club

If I was married and given up on life, I can understand your point though ;)

Do I dress like most 48 yr old men? Absolutely not. Thank goodness.

If I was in your situation then I would dress more stylishly too, however if you are mid 40's with wife/kids then the need to impress women at all times goes away and the need to dress stylishly also goes away.

My wife and I have date night a few times a year where we dress stylishly, however besides that what does it matter if i wear cargo shorts, socks with croc's, and cheap t-shirts.

Sometimes your lady wants to show you off. You are her arm candy and she wants the world to think she made a good choice.

makes me wonder, now that WFH is pretty common in the US, do people going for interviews in corporate type environments (IT guys, stand back) "dress their age" for interviews?

used to be if you were interviewing, especially corporate world, you dressed to fit the office aesthetic. nowadays??

eta: went to a client site last fall. had no idea how to dress. had to ask some of the people there what the expectation was for visitors and got told that their employees were expected to wear full business dress. men in suits, or at least slacks and a sport coat, etc.

so i quickly bought slacks, button downs, dress shoes, etc. thinking i would at least not stand out in jeans, t-shirt, etc.

then i got there and it was a reverse hierarchy of dress. younger employees were wearing full business attire. middle management was slacks, button downs, no tie. upper management was whatever they wanted, though most kept it at least business casual as if they were headed for a round at the local club.

While I don't adhere to there is age appropriate dress, I tend to dress neatly, definitely not stylish however.

Since the age of 25, I've never not worn a collared shirt to the office along with slacks. On Fridays, I will wear jeans and a button down shirt.
If I'm not at work, but going into public, typically will wear jeans or shorts along with tee's or sweat shirts.

A few rules I do adhere to....
Sweats/joggers only for when working out. Not for going out.
While I do own crocs, I've never worn them outside the house other then to bring garbage to the curb.
And I own plenty of hats, but I was raised that a man is not to wear a hat indoors, so other than at the house, caps are when I'm out for a run, walk, at the park, etc... but always taken off when indoors. I know this last one is certainly archaic, but men that come to work with hats almost every day get a thumbsdown in my book.

So do any of you slobs even own a single button up dress shirt? Sport coat?

I won't even bother asking about an actual business suit.
went full purge when moving from office to WFH a few years ago. dumped all dress clothes save for a few polo's and a couple sportcoats.

over the last handful of years i've built back with some nicer pieces for when we go out for a nice dinner or something like a wedding/funeral type scenario. but we're talking like 5% of the previous stock.

Yes..they are in the closet. Haven't worn a sport coat or suit since pre-covid trade shows.

Button downs get pulled out for client zooms or when presenting on webinars. They come off immediately after. lol

Work-khakis, long sleeve button down
Non-work-shorts, hoodie, golf shirt, maybe something pretty that I might change later

To each their own :)

I’m definitely old and married — but honestly I’ve always felt this way

Voted yes, but not sure if that's right. In winter work is jeans and a golf shirt, elsewhere is typically jeans and a (non-hoodie) sweatshirt. Summer work is nice shorts and a golf shirt, elsewhere is nice shorts and a tee. Old but niceish running shoes.

Voted yes mainly because I can't bring myself to ever leave the house in sweat pants, which definitely distinguishes me from the younger set.

I have a few button down shirts and a few sports coats but I doubt they fit anymore. I haven't had the need to wear one for as long as I can remember.

For me, these type of clothes (button down shirt with tie), sport coat, etc is so uncomfortable I am usually pretty miserable the entire time I am wearing them. Granted it's probably because I don't wear them often enough to get comfortable in them but have the restriction around my neck and long sleeves with sport coat just makes me feel stiff and tense. It is really a miserable time if/when I have to wear these type of clothes.

Pretty much all I wear are suits, golf attire (worn out as well), and gym attire. The golf attire is generally compromised of "popular" and "good" brands that can be worn on and off the course. The gym attire is pretty basic stuff and lots of t shirts with something sports on it (shirts I've won at tournaments, sports teams, golf brand shirts). I do not own any attire with a player's name on it.

I assume this means I dress my demographic as pretty much all I do is work, play golf, and go to the gym.

I have only worn a suit to 3 weddings since COVID. I have 6 nices ones but thinking about donating them to people in need and just keeping my black one and a lighter summer one.

The local grocery stores and shops I frequent think I live at the gym because I always do my running around in gym attire after working out. Just went out to dinner Saturday night and wore black jeans with a long sleeve Callaway top. My wife always buys me Travis Matthew stuff so have quite a bit of that line as I like the way it fits.

Dan Quinn needs to see this thread. Goodell must drop a six figure fine the next time Quinn takes the field wearing a backwards baseball cap.

My wife sais the same thing..she has no idea who Quinn is and said "That is the HC? Looks like a 55 year old guy still trying to be 22." I told her..22 year old guys don`t wear their hats like that anymore.

I help out coaching a local HS football and baseball team, been around a lot of young men and have not seen a younger guy wear a hat backwards in years.

Because you just feel better. Why people just give up when they get married is wild to me.

Maybe you feel better wearing nice clothes, which is great.

Right now I am looking pretty slick myself, working from corporate office. I wear slim fit, all my work shirts are newer, etc.

I don't feel any better going to the grocery store like this compared to wearing sweats and an old T-shirt.

The one place I really notice older guys lacking :style: is at the gym. They're normally wearing t shirts that now look like Smediums due to weight gain over the years and basketball shorts they picked up during the Wolverines Fab 5 era. There's really no excuse with the advent of the athletic leisure market. This stuff is great not only for the gym but everyday wear as well.

Exactly. Well said.

I'm 45 and dress mid 30's. I'm phasing out print on shirts and going with more solid colors and simple patterns. Phasing out hoodies for social situations. And wearing shoes with laces instead of slip-ons and skateboard shoes. I'm not ready for blazers, nor do I think I ever will be. I wear polo shirts now but ONLY if I have a sweater/3quarter-zip on top.

Yeah I feel way better in my casual hoodie attire than something flashy or :style:

Wearing nice or stylish clothing never made me feel better.

My wife was ok with my style then so I guess it never mattered

I still wear band t-shirts and jeans, so I guess I dress like I'm fifty (that's what fifty year-olds wear these days while the twenties guys dress in fitted joggers and plain shirts). Or something like that.

Yeah, I’ll wear the button down and dress pants when go in the office. Was out at a nicer restaurant this past weekend and put on suit jacket and pants. But, otherwise, I just dress casually.

I’m currently WFH’ing in a hoodie and sweatpants, nicer ones with tapered fit from Mack Weldon. Routinely wear something like this while out at grocery store, casual lunch, son’s soccer game, etc. during the winter. I’ll sometimes ask my wife if I should change out of sweatpants when head out, but she will wave me off and tell me not to. My SIL recently complimented them and was asking where they were from. Feel comfy and never been told that the look makes me look like a slob.

nice Robert Graham shirt, Cole Haan leather sneakers
Never heard of these things
Yeah was gonna say outside of @offdee nobody knows what that is
Are these the button down shirts that when you roll the wrist cuffs it has a snazzy bright pattern of fabric on the inside? Not really my :style:
Yeah you’re still the jeans, tee shirt and sneaker head guy. Works better for the ladies you’re going after. Not all of us can pull off the 20 year younger look like Offdee. 9/10

rule 1: be good looking
rule 2: don't be not good looking

Seriously?
I'll add that I am serious in saying those things mean nothing to me.
Me too. Every time someone has used some brand in their descriptions I have no idea what they are talking about.

'round the house = t-shirt and basketball shorts

Doing errands = ballcap, cargo shorts, t-shirt, flip-flops or slip-on Sketcher-type shoes... possibly a very light zippered hoodie if it's on the chillier side

Going out with friends = ballcap, jeans, t-shirt, plaid flannel (if chilly) and Vans shoes

Going to the office = joggers, slip-on shoes, polo shirt

Going to site visit = jeans, work boots, work logo polo

I probably don't "dress my age" but meh.

I guess I still like to impress myself

I sat around in nice clothes today for 10 hours, surrounded by other very well dressed individuals.

I was not impressed.
