OMG..you cant be FN serious? I know this..the 10/20 K i spend a year playing this hobby is not PRETEND Monopoly money! Lots of players here play very serious high stakes FF on a professional level. Now i know exactly what Fred was talking about. Trolls like you just ruin sites like this..you would have been chewed up and spit out back in the day..that kind of BS would not ever have gone on back then! What a dam shame! Wow, guess i know why i dont come around here nearly like i used to! I haven't been as crazy about the tank since the board change. There was a time this place was the first place id come anytime i wanted to find the best up to the second information. Those were the days, this forum was the best for that. I was far from an angel here but did try to contribute some good stuff as much as possible too. I can see why Fred is so turned off..What a disgrace of a post, as soon as i get to post like this i also turn off and leave..its just that pathetic..if you feel that way why the hell you here? Screw don't back back..who needs this kind of BS here? Pretend? So if i blow 10k playing this year can i pretend that its still really in my bank account?? WTF kind of BS nonsense is that? Thank you for stating the real problem here. What "Most of us" do now is not what "most of us" did before. We came here to share opinions on players and get "real" info by discussing players in the foums, not just in the articles. Now we wade through post after post of people trying to "blow off steam" and "throw a couple zingers" (which really doesn't capture the mean spirited nature of what the "zingers" are). I guess I'm not surprised you don't get it or care to get it.

If you want to debate who you should take at 1.10 or what effect Dez's off the field antics mean to his dynasty prospects, then come in here. If you want to act like a 13 year old and debate politics with lunatics, then go to the FFA. But don't for one second think that any of it is more than entertainment. So when some of us blur the lines a bit, just blow it off and keep looking for what you want. The search function is your friend.

Thanks gb. Im not really all that aggravated. These things need to be said from time to time. The offenders, predictably, don't seem too concerned, but maybe they will change. Nobody responds well to being called out publicly, and maybe i shouldnt have named names. Its not like they are the only offenders. And im sure plenty of people will remember my dogged arguments in the brady/manning threads (which I won. That's right, I said it). But that stuff might me fine in june, it just blows in august when there's so much stuff to talk about in a forum specifically designed for talking about this hobby. Be funny, be strong in your convictions, be proud of your screen name, I don't care. But bring something to the table when you post, or don't post. And if you're actually funny and don't talk about politics, try the ffa. Or maybe people will refuse to engage them, or a moderator will nip the nonsense in the bud. As has been mentioned, a lot of this fighting wouldn't have flown back in the day. This may still be a moderated forum, but the moderation seems too focused on avoiding dirty pictures and swear words and not worried enough about creating a culture that drives information sharing, which in turn drives the business

Since everyone is coming out of the woodwork anyway... This thread has hit on the major reasons I dont check in here much anymore either. Back when Old Yeller was put down, even a thread like this wasn't welcome in the SP and would have been axed by a mod fairly quickly. If you wanted to gripe and complain about non-football things or be a comedian, you got pointed to the FFA. If you wanted to be a tool, an ###, or in general "not excellent to each other" you got warnings, time outs, etc. The SP was for football and fantasy discussion only. The Pool has, unfortunately, gotten quite yellow.

It amazes me how generation after generation, the old folk always have it in for the young ones. "back in the day, it was like this...." "We never would have stood for this!", "we would've chewed you up and spit you out."!!!!!!!

On a related note, what's done now is no different than what went on back then. Instead of dropping a quick "TL;DR" or alternate quickie, you guys spent the equivalent of a 3minute download on a 56.6k modem of bullcrap thesaurus words and quotes from University textbooks to make yourselves sound important, relevant and educated. In the end, all you were doing was saying "your wrong, I'm right, look at those big words"

If you want real, valid info... There are threads for that. Threads with a real topic, with real substance. Not "Chad headbutted his wife". WTF do expect to be said in there? Should we discuss race, single parent children and socioeconomic issues? No, it's a haven for a bunch of crap and laughs.

I'm glad BF posted this and since my name was in the OP I will add my 2 cents and that's really all it is. 1. I agree that there is not as much worthwhile reading in the SP and I attribute that to several things but one of the main reasons is most of the talent was snatched up and put on staff. Credit that to a good business model by the boys up top. Guys like Wannabee, Wheelhouse, Jeff Pasquino, Rzrback, Couch Potato, they pretty much look to fill the spots with their best guys on the boards. Once they are on staff there is far less time to post up free stuff in the Shark Pool because of the obligations they have to crank out weekly material on the site. They thinned out the amount of good solid posters. Most of the staff do not post in the threads much. 2. I also feel the Shark Pool has gained a lot of people with different motives for being here. I think in the beginning most of us were in awe of so many people playing the game...the very game we just were using pen and paper for a few years back. It was overwhelming and there was a need to gather information and listen. VBD, QBBC, none of that stuff was prevalent yet so we were debating and discussing it ad nauseam in here. Now there isn't as much new stuff and if you are following 100 different beat writers on twitter you have the news as it is happening and there isn't as much need to discuss stuff. You also start to feel secure in how you draft and you don't feel the need to fire up a thread asking questions about stuff all the time...at least that holds for me. In fact if I can gain even a slight edge with some info tucked away or amongst just a few, why come blow it up in here? I'll tell you about if it worked come week 5.3. I fire up a long thread on OLines and I can't hardly fill 1 page worth of discussion. We talk about Dez Bryant being arrested and it will go 4-5 pages. This place is much more National Enquire than it is Insider Pro Football talk. This place gobbles up any potential scathing news on players and rushes to judgement as fast as possible. Sometimes it really wears thin and after a while you stop opening threads, you stop coming in here everyday, then it's once a week, so on and so forth. I miss a lot of the guys who used to post and simply have moved on in their real lives and don't have time. Too many to name and I have been blessed to continue on and still compete with some of you in drafts and leagues. I'm not gonna razz the SP too much as again i have been blessed over the years with a nice group of folks who followed my weekly RB threads. The RB position has changed so much that it really is challenging trying to just focus on RB in all 16 games every week. I decided to scale back and then pretty much have stopped. On a personal note, I have gone thru an awful lot in the last 5-6 years of my life but along the way a lot of good has happened as well, many inspiring people on the boards that have in some way influenced my life and pushed me on to do some fantastic things. I especially want to thank Jeff Tefertiller(Wannabee) and my good friend PAE who is active in the SSL and Reunion league, both have been my pillars and so I can say the Shark Pool, FFA, FBG have had a positive impact and while I wish things remained the same, the reality not fantasy is that they don't. Footballguys has to evolve to keep the doors open, I don't begrudge it and at some point down the road I expect FBG to either not be or evolve into something else. I look back fondly and am thankful for the time I have had here and also the opportunity to entertain some folks along the way. -Sean

I agree with most of this. In a nuttshell though, I think the problem is that the guys who want to post good stuff and have good debates/conversations have simply lost internest because of the fodder that surrounds every thread. Too many people want to manipulate stats or present their opinion as fact and simply be right as opposed to having a healthy debate. I used to read through 90% of the threads on the 1st page but now I only read through about 20% of them because it's obvious they are going nowhere. It's not really worth contributing when you can tell it's a dead end.

yep this is about why i don't frequent here anymore also...once you get to many posts that make you wonder what your doing here, you come here less and less till like i have, just stop coming back..i hit the news and Davids ranks alot but seldom come here unless i stumble in like today and of course i find a turn off post and realize why i lost touch with a forum i came to every day for many years and enjoyed greatly doing so.

I owe FBG a lot. Sharing recipes in the FFA of stuff we did on the grill launched my blog and now I'm a feature free lance writer, do live grilling demos on TV and do radio interviews.

The shark pool took me from mediocre to the superbowl in 2 years.

Now life has caught up with me. The only thing I consistently participate in here any more is the yearly BBQ thread and the subscriber contest. The bickering is too much.

I have moved on to other boards where people are excellent to each other, filtering back here around the NFL draft but will be gone soon after the season, choosing to get my news from Joes email and debating more and more about getting out of FFB entirely....

If you wanted to gripe and complain about non-football things or be a comedian, you got pointed to the FFA. If you wanted to be a tool, an ###, or in general "not excellent to each other" you got warnings, time outs, etc. The SP was for football and fantasy discussion only. The Pool has, unfortunately, gotten quite yellow.

I'm gonna disagree and say that Kool Aid Larry is one of the better posters if you are looking for relevant Pats info or IDP info. Actually has quite a bit of depth to a lot of his posts.

Fred, next time you find yourself getting aggravated over the quality of posting in the Shark Pool, switch over to youtube, queue up "Heaven" by Warrant, sit back in your chair with your head back and eyes closed, listen to the entire song, then come back here. I guarantee you'll be 70-80% less annoyed and can resume your draft research.

Thanks gb. Im not really all that aggravated. These things need to be said from time to time. The offenders, predictably, don't seem too concerned, but maybe they will change. Nobody responds well to being called out publicly, and maybe i shouldnt have named names. Its not like they are the only offenders. And im sure plenty of people will remember my dogged arguments in the brady/manning threads (which I won. That's right, I said it). But that stuff might me fine in june, it just blows in august when there's so much stuff to talk about in a forum specifically designed for talking about this hobby. Be funny, be strong in your convictions, be proud of your screen name, I don't care. But bring something to the table when you post, or don't post. And if you're actually funny and don't talk about politics, try the ffa. Or maybe people will refuse to engage them, or a moderator will nip the nonsense in the bud. As has been mentioned, a lot of this fighting wouldn't have flown back in the day. This may still be a moderated forum, but the moderation seems too focused on avoiding dirty pictures and swear words and not worried enough about creating a culture that drives information sharing, which in turn drives the business

Can't do it, man. I've tried, I just can not do it. It's a structural defect - I feel the need to bury people who intentionally bait with bad info and refuse to admit they're wrong. There are tons of posters here I've disagreed with over the years, sometimes explosively, but if they bring a real argument and I can actually learn something from discussing a topic with them, then I respect that poster and respond appropriately. If your only goal is to be "right" and you're not interested in learning anything or sharing anything others can learn from, then you have to go down. I'm sorry. Somebody's got to put these people in their places.

I owe FBG a lot. Sharing recipes in the FFA of stuff we did on the grill launched my blog and now I'm a feature free lance writer, do live grilling demos on TV and do radio interviews.

The shark pool took me from mediocre to the superbowl in 2 years.

Now life has caught up with me. The only thing I consistently participate in here any more is the yearly BBQ thread and the subscriber contest. The bickering is too much.

I have moved on to other boards where people are excellent to each other, filtering back here around the NFL draft but will be gone soon after the season, choosing to get my news from Joes email and debating more and more about getting out of FFB entirely....

This same problem exits on numerous message boards. I use to visit other sites frequently, but they have also become a victim of this problem. I don't think this problem is going to go away either, and especially not for forums with lots of activity. The only avenue I have found is to put people on ignore, and unfortunately that list can get lengthy, or not allow yourself to get riled up by adolescent behavior. For me, the best avenue has been to put those people on ignore. Unfortunately, that means I might miss that one post with relevant information, but the chances of that happening without comments from others is as negligible as the event actually occurring.

The same can be said for people complaining about moderators. The simple fact is that it this is free forum which has decided to require a certain level conduct. The interpretation of the corresponding code of conduct is applied by several moderators in different ways as it naturally subjective. If you find such conditions to be intolerable then you can always leave. I once moderated a forum, and it is not a job I envy. All you hear is #####ing with little to no thanks for trying to keep some civility in the discussions.

The FBG forums jumped the shark a while back. They went mainstream and all outside-the-box thinking went out the window when the forum was flooded by 12 year olds with i-egos. It's just another place now...nothing special (other than the occasional friday thread that makes me chuckle).

This used to be a niche board with some great characters. Now it's just a jumble of "Obama Sucks", "RMoney sucks" and 30 separate threads asking noob questions like "My first auction draft, any tips?" and "Is it crazy of me to wait on QB's this year?" and posts like "I just droppex X player so everyone can thank me when he blows up next week" over and over and over again.

I miss the days of wheat pennies, ball cancer, and hiding money.

So lame.

I get these confused:

Is it Irony or foreshadowing that a post by a long-time poster posted a topic about all the bickering on the forum and then, as a result, I just read 3 pages of bickering in a thread and some idea that Old Yeller was great but new yeller is a bad thing??

Also, it IS great to see all these guys with 10's of thousands of posts reunite in one spot. Kinda like a nursing home reunion that I wish I was old enough to be in...sounds like the pool was a cool place once upon a time.

Football guys subscriptions, the subscriber contest, the SP, the FFA, hell even the IDP & Baseball forums.... if you want to tie up $10K a year, that's your prerogative, but acting like people can't be less serious around here because you don't like it is just asinine.I play in one dynasty league with a $15 entry fee and gladly pay the $30 or whatever it is to join FBG because I enjoy the whole experience. If you want real insight and information that is useful, pay for the subscription, read until your eyes bleed and use the MyFBG feature. If you want to debate who you should take at 1.10 or what effect Dez's off the field antics mean to his dynasty prospects, then come in here. If you want to act like a 13 year old and debate politics with lunatics, then go to the FFA. But don't for one second think that any of it is more than entertainment. The problem isn't a couple of people. It's all the arguing, insulting, stupid quips.

Hell, I can't go and post in a thread on ADP, undervalued players, etc; without a minimum of 3 cool guys making some crack about something I said about Mark Ingram months ago.
