What happens to C-Pepp (1 Viewer)

What team do you think will pick him up?

I could really see Detroit going after him and allowing him to sit for a full year behind Kitna and getting the leg 100%. They know first hand how good he was and could sign him, I would think, to a fairly cheap contract. Where do you see his destinations or do you not think he'll get cut. Please let me know your thoughts.

I know some will say Oakland but I'm not seeing it.

Assuming Green goes to Miami..

If C-Pepp's healthy (which he should be in time for the preseason) he's the unquestioned starter.

If he plays like last year, I suspect they'll pull the plug after 5-6 games

You think they'll invest all that $ on Green and C-Pep :banned:

Reports I've heard has MIA already having a deal to restructure Green's contract if a trade would occur.Sorry no

I don't see how Culpepper fits into a Martz offense. I didn't watch much of Detroit last year, but when in St. Louis, the offense was successful when the QB could make correct decisions, and deliver the ball accurately. Those are definitely not Culpepper's strength. Culpepper was most succesful when he had loads of time to sit back and find an open receiver, and run when protection broke down. He does not make quick reads and does not hit receivers in stride on a regular basis.

From everything I've been reading, this is dead wrong. If Green is signed, CPep gets his walking papers.

I agree with CP.. this is what I've been reading, too. Green will come in and _compete_ with Cleo Lemon for the starting job.

Time to avoid all dolphins if this is the case.

The Dolphins will carry 3 qbs just like every other team in the league.

Prediction,

Green gets signed and Brady Quinn ends up with the dolphins on draft day. Culpepper is then traded, cut, or reassigned to wash cars in the parking lot.

As a Vikings fan, I think I can offer an opinion on CPep. He is and always has been OVERRATED!!!!! He was a product of a system with Randy Moss when he was still a force and an OC that let him pull the ball down and run. Once that option was gone (Linehan obviously didn't want him to run) he started to tank. The guy just makes stupid decisions and his reads are horrible. He can't hold on to the ball and when he throws under pressure something bad usually happens. I was overjoyed when Minny got rid of him and any team that signs him now is wasting a roster spot.

Mark it down, Culpepper is done.

I wouldn't make any assumption on this front. Remember, Culpepper was the choice of the "Saban Regime" short lived as that was. Cam Cameron is his own man, and is going to call his own offensive plays. Just as Saban had preconceived notions of what makes the right QB, so too will Cameron.I'm not saying a healthy Culpepper can't/won't be the Dolphins starter, just that logically there are plenty of reasons to think the team may want to go in another direction.J

In the "from what I've read" category, Cam Cameron and the front office are saying the following:

If Green comes to Miami, C-Pep will be gone, Lemon will compete with Green and they plan to draft a QB.. no mention of when they'll draft a QB, but presumably it would be a first day pick.

Take that for what it's worth.. It's by no means an official statement, but it's what is being reported.

Personally, I don't think Culpepper or Green can save the Dolphins this year. Neither one is the same QB that was a top fantasy QB 3-4 years ago. Neither one is likely to regain that status either - no matter what team they're on.

GIVER JB!!! :lmao: I've been saving this one. I took this pic with my camera phone of a car in front of me yesterday...

I don't really think there is any question on this front. If Trent Green signs in Miami, Daunte Culpepper will be cut.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Drew Stanton in a Dolphins' uniform next season.

Culpepper will be bagging groceries at his local supermarket talking about how the Dolphins should have not cut him and....... an old lady will ask him to take her grocery cart out and he will reply "sorry I need two more months before I can do physical activity like that"...

Everything I am hearing from friends in Miami is that Cpep is gone when/if they get Green. They will draft a QB 1st day (Quinn/Stanton/Edwards) and Green will bring him along. If it is Quinn he could start this year, the others would be a year or two away. Lemon looked bad in mini camps over the weekend and at best will be the #2 oe #3 guy.

Miami's QB situation has been a wreck since Marino left. I would like to to see them make the necessary moves to get a good young qb and develop him.

dolphins expected to intensify trade talks

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2838254

one of the key points in the article:

There have been other teams which have indicated an interest in Green, the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns among them, but the veteran has emphasized that his preference is to be traded to Miami, where he would be reunited with Cameron, his former quarterbacks coach with the Washington Redskins from 1995-96.

Green controls his fate to some extent, since any team that acquires him will want him to restructure a contract that has three seasons remaining, at base salaries of $7.2 million (2007), $7.7 million (2008) and $9.2 million (2009). The Dolphins and Green's agent have already agreed on the key parameters of a contract that addresses the needs of both sides.

I think Culpepper will be cut regardless of whether Green is acquired (which I think will happen). The only thing holding up a possible cut is the injury. They may have to reach an injury settlement with him like the Browns did with W. Green.

Not sure if it is feasible or even likely, but Culpepper does strike me as an Al Davis type of pickup.

The addition of Green would likely spell the end of quarterback Daunte Culpepper's tenure with the Dolphins. Culpepper, who is due to earn $5.5 million this season, didn't receive medical clearance to participate in this weekend's minicamp because of ongoing problems with his right knee.

If Culpepper were released or traded, Green would battle Cleo Lemon for the starting spot, although Dolphins General Manager Randy Mueller has said he hopes to draft a quarterback.

I heard somewhere (sorry, no link) that Culpepper may need another surgery on his knee since it's not healing as planned. If that is the case he'd be out another 4 - 6 months I think.

Has anyone else heard this?

I think that Daunte to Oakland is easy for people to project, because they have a history of reclamation projects. But I don't think they are very interested. We heard a little bit about it last year, but I don't know how much was the same kind of guesswork.

And last year the Raiders thought they had a healthy, happy Moss, and Kerry Collins was out the door. And they still didn't trade for Daunte. Now Moss is on his way out, and Daunte's knee is as big a question mark as ever. So why should they be interested now?

I would answer the question with a question: Who cares? It's been a while since he was a viable fantasy QB. I really think he's done. And even if his knee heals, will he reach the levels he did previously in Minny? I am very skeptical.

I would think that Oakland would be the most likely place for Culpepper, but looking at the league other options would be:

Cleveland

Tampa Bay

Washington

Houston - doubtful, but you never know

Baltimore - if this is McNair's last season

Kansas City?? again, stranger things have happened.

or backing up in Atlanta or Tennessee, especially since he may need to really sit this year out to fully recover from his injury.

I think St Louis would be interested with Scott Linehan being there. He might not be able to start right away, but he could bring another dimension to the offense that Bulger can't if he rehabs.

I'm listening to Sirius NFL Radio right now, and they mentioned C-Pep to Cleveland as a decent possibility were he to be cut (with I think its about a 95% possibility right now). Consider this: Cleveland can play Frye if Culpepper doesn't get healthy soon. I don't think anyone out there has the Browns in the 2007 playoffs, so giving Dante a full year to get completely healthly can't be considered a waste--maybe even a decent investment. He gets healthy by 2008, and hopefully has a completely rejuvenated Edwards and K2 to throw deep balls.Cleveland then gets to approach the draft without the need to take Quinn. They can take Adrian Peterson, and suddenly they have a rather potent offense going into 2008.Listen, I'm not saying this is going to happen, but it certainly would have to be considered moderately savvy for Savage and Co. to pull something like this off, given that Culpepper will likely be on the open market in the next two weeks.
