What I think I learnt - Vikings/Browns (1 Viewer)

I personally didn't think the Vikings offensive line looked THAT bad. Heck, didn't they block for a RB who had 180 yards and 3 TDs on the day?
Kind of the point. They have been very good run blocking for years...very bad pass blocking for years.
This is misleading. Everyone has known for years that the Vikings only real weapon is the run game, so they load up the box and blitz every down. You're gonna give up more sacks if teams blitz that often, however the hope is that the defense will also give up more big plays, which hasn't happened in the past. The hope is it will happen with Favre.Every one of the sacks today came when Cleveland blitzed 5 or 6 guys. When they rushed only 4 there was a very good pocket.
Well...yes...but that gets me back to my point...that it does not seem to matter who is the QB...teams will still load up and blitz and get past the Oline.
But here is where you are wrong....it is because everyone in the league knows how conservative Childress is. He does nothing to stretch the field. That is why teams load up.
And here is why I disagree...5 years...different Coaches...different QBs...and this line still gives up 40+ sacks a year.At some point people will quit blaming the QBs...quit now blaming just the coach...and actually put some blame on the guys up front.Hutch is great.McKinney is a beast in the run game. But on the whole, that line is a poor pass blocking line.

You don't stay on topic either....you take the bait everytime and the post above is a great example.
I stay on topic when the topic is being posted about...when you and others try just coming at me...I respond in kind.Want to keep it 100% on topic...keep it that way. Don't post simply about me as you often do...post about the actual topic. Not very hard to figure out.

Conoby - I agree with all your points.

Jamal Lewis did look good and he would have more yards versus a lesser defense. I still think the Browns are underrated. A lot of people have written them off due to not having a great pass rush but Wimbley and Rogers were decent today. You got give a lot of credit to Joe Thomas who shut down Jared Allen. However, they need better QB play if they have any chance of being competitive in their division.

Dynamite...of your posts in this topic...how many are about me...how many are about the topic?

yet you and datonn want to claim I am the problem?

Hah!!!!

Either way...Im done with it...you want to discuss this game...do it...want to discuss me...grow up and get over yourself.

I think we learned that no matter how much hoopla there is surrounding Favre...this is Peterson's team - plain and simple!!

I think the Browns are a "not yet" type of team right now. Their O-line looked stellar and it's a very young group. I think they'll eventually be thought of as the best O-line in the league. Quinn had a few great throws today, but more mediocre or downright poor ones. I think he showed that he has the talent to find it, but just needs consistency. Their D played great in the first half, but then got pushed around in the second. Tough test against Minnesota and ADP though, so maybe they'll show better in the future. Like I said, I think they'll be good maybe as early as next year, but I think they need to have some growing pains first.

Most importantly is the Vikings are still a work in progress. If they can stay healthy, tehy may start to peak at the right time in the season.

Oh, and rumors of Favre's demise may be premature.

No...my response is that you just couldn't resist entering yet another Vikings/Favre thread to take a dump. The next 30-40 posts that follow (from you) will just add to that noise/smell.
We already knew this. It is nothing new that we have learned. It would be nice to read threads about the Vikings without this crap from the Slacker fans but will probably continue all year. :lmao: I think Brady Quinn may have learned the most and grown more from this game than any other player. He is going to be alright I think. Maybe better than Eli Manning when he gets more experience.

Quinn looked pretty shaky for much of the second half, IMHO. However, considering the fact that he was facing the Vikings defense pinning their ears back and coming after him (playing pass) for at least half that time, he probably did okay. That last drive at the end was pretty decent too. I'd have rather seen the Vikings (:horns:) keep the Browns out of the end zone...but it was a nice feel-good to have the Browns break their long offensive scoring drought too.Quinn probably won't see a much tougher defense all year (except maybe Baltimore X2). If he can just learn from it, he'll be okay.

Since there's so many trying to come in and correct the title:

"Learn"

Also, from another site:

These are alternative forms of the past tense and past participle of the verb learn. Learnt is more common in British English, and learned in American English
So, unless this is an American-only forum, "learnt" is completely acceptable and not wrong.

Quinn did show a little promise. I think the biggest problem as the receivers were not getting open and quinn didnt want to force it in there and cause a turnover.

has a few dropped passes. the catch by edwards for the td that was called back was an incredible catch. the rulel kinda sucked for us. esp considering the ball was only 10 feet away when he got pushed out/interfered with. afte that the play calling sucked. they should have ran jamal down there 2 more times instead of cribbs.

online did do a pretty decent job. mack and thomas held their player in check. right side needs a little help/work.

the def did a very good job in the first half. attacked AP very good and kept him in check.. i think he only had 20 yards in the first half. 1 in the second quarter.

the problem was the off could not stay on the field long enough to let the def rest up some. same thing with last year. good in the first half and got worn down/out in the 2nd half.

minn passing game didnt look good at all. but until favre gets settled in it will be like this. i think he will come around after he gets used to his receivers.

favre and harvin did look like they were on the same page and will be a good combo later on.

AP is a stud enough said... but do have to say that the long td run if you look at it about 15 yards into it there was a major hold that was not called. the browns db could have made a play. but thats a mute point. calls gets missed. and damn is AP fast.

i think minn will win their division. i think clev will win maybe 6-7 games.

Actually, yes, it is American-only. If you're talking in British English when discussing football, you're actually referring to soccer. And soccer is for weenies.

I was at the game, and I learned that Adrian Peterson can knock people out of his way as if they were department store mannequins, but we already had evidence of that. That was my first time seeing it in person though, and it was ridiculous.

I learned that the Vikings can start anybody they like at QB but are only going to ever pass for a maximum of 140 yards a game, and that makes me sick to my stomach. Favre HAS to start eyeing the WRs downfield (or they have to start getting open?) or the team will not be successful this year. The running game, as ridonkulously powerful as it is can't do this all year and it was frustrating to see the aerial game as stagnant as ever. Maybe after another week of practice Favre and the receivers will get on the same page @ Detroit.

If there were an answer to my prayers related to professional football (besides a Super Bowl win, of course), it would be that the Vikings open a game with Harvin, Berrian and Rice at WR and ADP in the backfield. Favre (or whomever the QB is) would then proceed to hand off to ADP, who would take a step or two towards the line, then toss the ball back to Favre/??? Meanwhile, there are eight in the box, and Harvin, Berrian and Rice are all running DEEP patterns...with the QB then picking his best option and letting it rip.

An INT to start the game? That'd suck. A 2nd and 10?! Also sucks, but if we can't occasionally get ten yards in TWO plays instead of three, I don't know what all this playoffs/Super Bowl talk is about anyway. Bombs away right out of the gate...then a series or two later, bombs away again. Even if it isn't successful, at least give subsequent defensive coordinators another wrinkle or two to think about as they game plan.

What I learned

- Peterson is a beast

- Childress looks way cooler in a cap and sunglasses

- Percy Harvin ain't too bad

- I still don't want any Browns on my team

A few things here on it...

1) I'm Canadian and thats why I used Learnt. And in Canada we play Football (and soccer is soccer) and use learnt and learned.

2) As for Cribbs - Thinking back I don't really remember anything from him as a WR. My main memories of Brown receptions were: Edwards drops, Royal drops and Jamal Lewis looking fine.

3) One last thing.... Players from this game I'd like to own would be: Harvin, Peterson, Shincoe, Lewis. Taylor might be ok as depth if Favre keeps targetting him and he comes in on 3rds. Note I am not saying you should give up on Berrian or Edwards but neither looked good.
