What I think I learnt - Vikings/Browns (1 Viewer)

Ok just finished watching the Vikings/Browns game... So here's another What I think I learnt. These are my opinions of what I saw in short form. This will sometimes come across as very declarative statements, its week 1 though so DO NOT OVER REACT.

Browns

1) Jamal Lewis looked very good

2) James Davis didn't look good

3) Brady Quinn was inconsistantly decent. He had a few very bad throws but most of his throws were fine. He showed the fact that he could grow into a decent QB.

4) Brady Quinn shouldn't run the no huddle till he knows how to run plays quicker. He spent too long on the line.

5) Quinn showed good escapablity overall

6) The line blocked well for the most part. Till the end of the game when it was no threat of a run at all.

7) Shaun Rodgers is still a beast.

8) Wimbley was pass rushing well.

9) The amount of stupid procedural penalties is concerning.

10) They need to put glue on the receivers hands. There were a few drops and a couple near ones.

11) Alex Mack did very well. I saw one time there was Kevin Williams really there and a couple other hurries but overall he did very well in his first game.

Vikings

1) Percy Harvin is going to be very good.

2) He's also the only Wide Receiver that Brett seemed comfortable with.

3) Chester Taylor got a lot of work and was getting several short passes, especially early in the game.

4) As expected Shincoe got targeted a good amount.

5) Peterson played very well.

6) Brett Favre needs more practice. Him and his receivers were on different pages several times. He also seemed to ignore half his threats due to lack of familiarity.

7) The Run Defense may very well be concerning. Jamal Lewis was getting to the second and third level with some consistancy.

8) Speical Teams coverage is still a concern. Punt returns in particular and they did a decent job on kick returns.

9) Brad Childress is still a predictable coach. Sitting here calling run off left guard was still far too easy

10) Where was Bernard Berrian? We had a couple Sydney Rice Sightings, plenty of Harvin, Taylor, Peterson, Shincoe but I do not think I saw Berrian once.

What did you see?

Agree/disagree?

How did S Rice look exactly? Roughly how many targets?

If you could have 1 MIN wr who would it be?

I can remember 3 targets for sure and there may have been another. If I had to choose one its Harvin for sure. They used him well and it looked like him and Favre had a good feel for each other. Rice and Favre were on different pages occasionally from what I saw there.

Rice looked really good, had a TD negated cuz of a bad call, I thought he had his feet in anyways, but no worries.

AD looked amazing, especially in that 2nd half.

We need to open up the playbook a lot more than we did. We showed signs on that in the 2nd half but..

Braylon Edwards targeted much? Saw he had a TD nullified on review, but not much on the final stat sheet.
I think about 5 targets. Not very good ones though... throw behind him on a slant, miscommunication on a route resulting in an INT, overthrown ball that he dropped on a dive, his one catch, and the TD that was called off.

None
This is incorrect. Rice had a possible TD where he and Favre were not in sync.As far as which Vikings WR, I think drawing conclusions from one game vs the Browns is a bad idea. It's going to be a work in progress developing rapport with Favre. Favre does seem to have a little something working with Harvin, which is encouraging. Keep in mind that he and Berrian basically haven't practiced together & Berrian can't have been 100% for that game (I was actually surprised he was active).

Just think about how bad sho nuff will get if/when Aaron Rodgers sustains a major injury and the Packers are starting Jeff George or some other cast-off at QB for an extended period... :pickle:

I learned that the Vikings easily won a game where they played sloppy defense and were unimaginative on offense. Cleveland is still not very good. They appear to have a great Oline in place, but have a lot of work to do in other areas of their team. Percy Harvin is going to be a stud, especially if Favre continues to target him.

Your response is how I will feel if Rodgers will get hurt?Stay classy Minny fans.

No...my response is that you just couldn't resist entering yet another Vikings/Favre thread to take a dump. The next 30-40 posts that follow (from you) will just add to that noise/smell.

Also forgot...that line still can't pass block even if its Brett Favre at QB.
Go away.
So you disagree?4 sacks.Sorry that some of you can't deal with something that is pretty obvious. We get it...you don't like me posting in such a topic.I did not post about him...just the pass blocking of the Oline.
I agree the o-line had some problems but I don't know why you had to bring Favre into it once again.

Not sure what "ignore half his threats" means

Wait, you assured us last week that Brett Favre would throw up stupid passes for INTs in those situations instead of taking sacks. So because he didn't you have to rip on the line instead? We already knew the line would be a work in progress with two guys starting their first career game today. I'm more impressed that Brett made wise decisions instead of throwing it up for grabs.

I personally didn't think the Vikings offensive line looked THAT bad. Heck, didn't they block for a RB who had 180 yards and 3 TDs on the day? ;)

I thought what looked obviously bad was how out of sync that Favre is with the Vikings WR corps at the moment. WRs not getting open or not being where Favre expects them to be = "coverage" sacks. Although I put a lot of that on Favre...since had he been in mini-camps or Training Camp, it wouldn't need to be OJT. If the Vikings miss the playoffs by a game or two, and the Vikings take an extra loss or two due to Favre and the WRs not being in sync, that will be the one gigantic issue that sticks out to me like a sore thumb come December/January/February.

It was a Vikings thread. I spoke about the Vikings. Some of you need to get over it and discuss what was posted, rather than who posted it.

Well...he is the QB...and he has been known to escape the blitz...and when I have posted about the line in the past Ive got the response that it was the QBs they have had that led to such high sacks. My bringing Favre into it was perfectly relevant to the point about the Oline...that it does not matter that he is the QB over the others they have had over the last 5-6 years. It was not a bash on him at all.

Really? Well, Id ask for a link...but I know I won't get one.I don't recall ever saying he would do so this game.I have ripped this line as far as pass blocking for the last 2 years...and they deserve it.

I personally didn't think the Vikings offensive line looked THAT bad. Heck, didn't they block for a RB who had 180 yards and 3 TDs on the day?
Kind of the point. They have been very good run blocking for years...very bad pass blocking for years.

FWIW, I saw Berrian targeted with a mid range fade route. That was about it.
Yes, I don't think he was fully healthy. When they ran 2 WR sets, he wasn't always on the field. Also, Sidney Rice had 5 targets. Only 2 catches for 17 yards(should've been 3 for 55 and a score but for the refs), but he did see 1/4 of Favre's targets so that's encouraging for Rice owners.

This is misleading. Everyone has known for years that the Vikings only real weapon is the run game, so they load up the box and blitz every down. You're gonna give up more sacks if teams blitz that often, however the hope is that the defense will also give up more big plays, which hasn't happened in the past. The hope is it will happen with Favre.Every one of the sacks today came when Cleveland blitzed 5 or 6 guys. When they rushed only 4 there was a very good pocket.

I thought the browns didn't look that bad, ecpecially in the first half. I'm not to depressed as a browns fan. Now, I was disappointed by Edwards and some of Quinn's throws. But Quinn doesn't look that bad for a QB starting his what 4th or 5th game? So, overall, some hope as a browns fan.

I was refering to the fact he only went to Rice twice and Berrian 0 times. He was pretty much excluding the non-harvin receivers from the game. Also... can we *please* not have this turn into a favre/anti-favre and Vikings vs Packers thread.

You know what works for me? I just added sho nuff and his 10,000+ posts (probably 5,000+ about Favre and wishing all the worst to the Vikings, lol) to my Ignore list. Never thought I would ever use it in 1,000,000 years, but I finally decided today to use it. And you know what? MAGICALLY a whole lot of wasted bandwidth has been instantly removed from the Pool.

Seriously sho nuff...I think you revel in making this place a lot less fun/enjoyable for a lot of us here. So, congratulations on being the first-ever person added to my own personal Ignore list.

Aah....the birds are chirping. The sky is sunny. I can breathe in a big gulp of cool, crisp, FRESH air. I hear a heavenly chorus singing somewhere from above. Is this what the Pool is supposed to be like? :goodposting:

That sums up the world of sho nuff in the Shark Pool.
yet another post not about the topic...but about me.Get over it...grow up.
It doesn't take much to get you riled up! :goodposting: :lmao: :lmao:

Well...yes...but that gets me back to my point...that it does not seem to matter who is the QB...teams will still load up and blitz and get past the Oline.

But here is where you are wrong....it is because everyone in the league knows how conservative Childress is. He does nothing to stretch the field. That is why teams load up.

Well...taking one last shot at me huh?Thanks.But...to answer your point about me.No, I don't revel in making it less fun for others. If you can't take criticism of your team and that makes it less fun. You might want to know worry about me on ignore...and just log off. You obviously don't need to be on a message board if all you want are people who agree with you and think Minny is the greatest. But again...yet another post about me...and not about anything in the topic. You will notice my posts in here were about the topic...until the point where two of you were coming at me personally and I responded.Like phase...you need to grow up.
