There is only one right answer-

"RIEGAH!!"
As much as I loved DePalma, I gotta tell ya... I think Frank Reynolds is funnier. But being the funnier character doesn't make him DeVito's signature character.
I agree that funnier doesn't make signature but I disagree that Frank is the funnier in any event. When Louie would make that guttural growl behind the cage, like wild badger or something, man I bust out laughin just thnking about it. :lmao:

I thought DePalma and Reynolds would be neck and neck in this thing because we have so many younger guys on this board.

I'm really stunned it's this much of a blowout.

:lmao: They're probably out having a good time while us old farts are having a few snorts watching the ballgame.PEAVY!

I loved the one where Louie got a job as a stockbroker. Can't find it on YouTube.

His new boss was revolted by Louie's lack of manners. He tells Louie that he eats too loudly.

Louie: "Everybody makes noises when they eat."

Boss: "Those aren't eating noises.... those aren't human noises."

:lmao:

I'm too young to appreciate his role in Taxi..

The first thing I thought of was his role in Hoffa. I thought he did pretty good in that one.

I think I'm the only one that absolutely hated Taxi.

I just could not stand anyone on the show...every single character except Ignatowski.

The show, as a whole, doesn't hold up well for me. Only way I'm entertained by it is if an episode where Jim or Latka are the focal point. Those two are arguably top 10 sitcom characters of all time.
Great episode when the guys stayed in a cabin in the middle of nowhere.Everyone is bringing the bags of groceries in as Jim is carrying them right back outside. :lmao:

Voted Other: Hoffa

ETA:

He directed that movie to! Wow he must have been in one of those camera chairs that glides you up in the air to get the right shot. Other wise it would be shaky as hell with him jumping all the time!

Not a look at me post, but I stood next to DeVito once. Unbelievable how wide he is. Not really fat, just wide. Don't think I've ever seen a body type like it.

Taxi was a well written, well acted show. The four camera technique was innovative. And it served as an artistic bridge from shows like Mary Tyler Moore to shows like Cheers. It really had no central tent pole character, although technically that was Judd Hirsch, it was a true ensemble. At one time Louie may have been the most disliked character on television. And the show reveled in it while it went on to win 14 Emmys. Louie is definitely Devito's signature character.

Jesus, Taxi is beating Sunny 107-12. :lol:And two of the 12 are my aliases. I was trying to keep it close.
Are you really trying to compare a major network classic sitcom of all time to an off network marginally popular show? And before you go bananas--look at the ratings and see how many people actually watch Sunny in Philiadelphia

Definitely Frank or Louie. I'll defer to the expertise of the older tv watching crowd. It should be noted that Always Sunny has now been on for more seasons than taxi, although for fewer episodes and is certainly less iconic (but has become niche popular).

It amazes me how short lived many of the older "iconic" shows were. Taxi was 5 seasons. The Brady Bunch was 5 seasons. I love Lucy was 6 seasons. I guess shows played out their lifetimes much more quickly than they do now.

The original Star Trek was only 3 seasons! Blows my mind. Seems like there were 200 episodes.
