What is Odell Thurman's Revised Value? (1 Viewer)

Islander

Redraft

Bloom revised Odell's ranking to LB39. Magaw and Rudnicki's rankings indicate they were updated 7/13, but I don't know if they moved Odell yesterday. Both have him at LB11. Guys, is that your new ranking after suspension?

It seems to me that Bloom is overreacting. In weeks #1-4, your backup LBs are more likely to be healthy than in weeks #11-14 so it does not hurt your team as much to have a guy like Odell being out early in the season than late in the season. In addition, the suspension should not impact his PPG that much. Yeah, based on total points he will lag, but for PPG he won't be too bad. I can't see him not being top 30 despite the suspension.

Where would you guys take him?

Dynasty

For dynasty purposes, I am a lot more worried about Thurman than for redraft, even though that might sound weird at first. I tend to draft premium LBs with a very long-term view. I think he will put decent stats in the short-term (weeks #5-17 this year), but a one-year suspension is only one step away. And if that happens, his career will be derailed.

So I would hesitate less to draft him in redraft (for fair value of course, not top 10 anymore) than in dynasty.

What's your take on Odell's long-term prospects? Are you confident he will steer clear of trouble, or do you think he's rotten and it's a lost cause?

I don't know if Bloom does rankings by feel or raw projections. I haven't updated my projections yet, but it wouldn't surprise me to see Thurman drop to the mid thirties based on year-end total production. But, I agree, I wouldn't drop him that far as he should remain a solid LB2 on a PPG basis on his return. My rankings should be updated by Monday AM.

Many of the Bengals beat writers are reporting that Thurman's suspension may be the result of a "missed test" rather than a positive test and that he remains committed to putting his past behind him. I'm not particularly up to speed on the substance abuse program, but I'm pretty sure you don't get suspended for four games for a first offense routinely, so I am concerned a bit. If the beat writers are correct, I'd have little issue taking him in a dynasty league. Buyer beware, though, for sure.
Whether it's Simmons or not, whomever plays MLB for the Bengals will have very good value while Thurman sits.

From a Dynasty perspective, definatley Buyer Beware. IMO, he was that (buyer beware) before this. Cincinnati sure has had its share of off-field issues the last few months, and then they take Brooks.

Might as well jump on here, instead of posting a new thread.

So we autopicked an interesting league, set up by Islander, last night, and I wound up with Thurman. Our benches are only 3 players deep for the entire team (O and D), so I'm wondering if I should drop Thurman.

FWIW, Quarles, B Simmons and Gold are probably the top LBs available.

i might be overreacting, but i do have LBs 20-40 pretty close. Thurman might be top 15 in a PPG basis when he returns, but those first 4 weeks are about 1/3 of the fantasy regular season, plus there's no guarantee that he'll be 100% effective in the first few weeks back. If Im taking an LB in the top 35, I want someone i can count on all year.

Without looking at stats or rankings, I would consider both Quarles and Gold if you can't cover for him the first few weeks. Knowing a little about Odel's temperment from watching him as a dawg, I'd say he comes back on a tear in week 5.

What happens to players in this situation? Can they practice? Can they access team facilities?

no and no
 They can practice and use the facilities.

Or is it  ?

I'm fairly certain that they can work out with the team. IIRC that was heard on Sirius Radio.

Maybe it's different (and it could be) for 1 year suspensions and 4 week suspension for substance abuse, but if you recall Ricky Williams was not allowed to practice with the team while suspended.
