What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

My mother getting screened for colon cancer as we speak. So I might be drinking lots of beer tonight. I don't care what kind of beer it is. So long as it's cold. And not Bud, Miller, or Coors.
hope your mom is ok ts.
:goodposting:
Moms okay. Had some big polyps removed, but no obvious masses. Was admitted to the ICU due to major blood loss though. Required 6 units of blood transfusion. Likely a GI source of the bleed. Trying to determine if/where the bleed is still coming from.

Had Sam Adams last night to ease my pain.

Thanks for t's and p's. Mom is doing much better.

This is pretty cool if youve ever wondered what these breweries/taprooms look like::

Jester King, Austin Beerworks, Balcones Distillery, Revolution, Lagunitas, Half Acre, 3 Floyds, Cigar City, Cycle, Coppertail, 7venth Sun, Green Bench.

Good news but hopefully find bleeding issue bud.

Going to Charlotte next weekend as part of the Great Escape From Illinois relocation tour. I have limited time but what local goodies should i be looking for? NoDa and Wicked Weed and...
Won't find much in the way of special Wicked Weed. Wing recommended a great bottle shop that I can't remember the name to now but they had some really nice beer on tap for crowlers. I would look for Birdsong Jalapeno Pale...it's excellent.
Salud is a great bottle shop and close to Noda and Birdsong breweries. Depending on where you are staying Brawley's beverage on Park Rd is also solid.

You can find Triple C Babymaker in bottles and that is a tasty DIPA and their 3C IPA was a bronze medal winner at the GABF. Wooden Robot, Unknown and Sycamore are newer but also make some tasty brews.

One thing to note is most of the breweries close at 9 but you can find their brews on tap at most bars around town.
That's the place! Kind of in the middle of nowhere right? I've had a couple of different Unknowns and they were fantastic, both were on tap at Salud and I got crowlers.
Thanks to both you. Appreciate the responses.

Is Foothills Jade IPA distributed in or near Charlotte?

Not sure but I managed to get some in SC, if you call those guys at Salud they would tell you. The only other bottle that cool that I have ever been to is the one Wing pointed me towards on the way out to cornhole with him.

Nothing yet but just picked up

Nelson x3

Lagunitas Born Yesterday

Half Acre Chub Step

Half Acre Gone Away

Pollyanna Lexical Gap

One can of Surly Abrasive

Was going to get some Surly Furious but was being frugal.

Big fan of Half Acre's taproom. Cool place. Rev's and 3F aren't so bad either.

Went to a couple of South Jersey breweries today, Village Idiot and Spellbound, both in Mt. Holly, NJ.

Village Idiot: Rye IPA, Coffee Stout, Chocolate Covered Banana, Chocolate Nitro Stout. They don't distribute, strictly a brew pub. Nothing too spectacular but the Chocolate Covered Banana was probably the best of the 4 I sampled.

Spellbound: Porter, Palo Santo Wood Aged Porter, Citra Pale Ale, Gingerbread Brown Ale, Oud Bruin. Hazelnut Porter

Spellbound is new and growing. Distribute locally but only their porter and IPA. It was all top-notch but my favorites are the Porter, the Palo Santo Porter (brought home a growler for Sunday NFL viewing ;-), and the Gingerbread. The Oud Bruin was....interesting. Never had a sour before so I need a larger sample size.

Deschutes Black Butte - about 18 months old, still solid

Revolution Blue Gene - Eugene porter with blueberries aged in bourbon barrels - released last November.

How is the Blue Gene? Is that available now (or just last year)?
It's pretty good. I wish it had more of the bourbon, it's heavier on the blueberry rather than the bourbon I think. I tried some about 6 months ago and was unimpressed, but I think it's drinking better now.

I bought it last year in November...happened to be in Chicago the day it was released and scored 2 bottles at a random Binnys. It was 1 per person and I had my buddy pick up a second bottle for me. I know they release Eugene variants every so often....I'm sure they release it every now and again. Not sure though.

Alpine in MI? Anyone know of anywhere near the Detroit airport that might carry it? I'm flying up for thanksgiving weekend and would love to drink some Alpine with dinner thursday.

Got mine at Holiday Market in Canton. It's about 10-15 mins from the airport.

Closest most likely Merchants of Fine Wine in Dearborn (15 min drive)

I'm also right down the street from there so if you have a wish list I can pick something up for you...if you've got any tasty treats you want to fly up with you I'd love to meet up as well

Going to MICH game that Saturday but other than that and thanksgiving holiday I'd be free

Looks like Holiday Market in Canton is right on my way up to Bay City from the airport (taking 275 to 96 to 23). Perfect.

Dan, thanks but I'm going the opposite way from the airport. Appreciate it though!

I was real confused for a minute there because my name is also Dan, lol.

Jackie O's Dark Apparition & Ommegang Lovely Dark & Deep. Also pick up a 6 pack of Three Floyd's Robert the Bruce which I love!

Born Yesterday falls off pretty quick. Still really good but it has lost some of the hop chracter.
Really? I am at the end of a 6-pack and it is just as delicious as the 1st one from 2 weeks ago.
Yeah I think my palate was off that day...the first one didn't taste right but the ones after that did.Finishing my last bottle of Toolbox Apropos Apricot Berliner...my fridge now has zero beers in it til I get a package from New England Thursday. Can't wait to crack that box open and see what's inside. I know there's some Sip of Sunshine and a growler of Hill Farmstead Abner, but the rest will be a surprise.

Tried the ET soft dk. Kind of a letdown. Didn't get the banana or really any of the flavor mentioned in the reviews. Nothing stood out to make this special or worth trying again, for me anyway.

Was in Wisconsin recently and smuggled home some New Glarus Spotted Cow and Fat Squirrel. While not the best beers in the world, they are really, really good beers.

Trillium Upper Case DIPA. Bottled 10/3 so it's not the freshest...but still really really good. At 9% it has a touch of alcohol heat but the hops have faded little. I bet it's fantastic when fresh.

I've had some great beers over the past couple days:

Firestone Walker Anniversary Ale XIX

Russian River Pliny the Elder

Oskar Blues Death by Coconut coconut porter

Paradox Skully Barrel No. 22 dark sour with elderberries aged in red wine barrels

Horse & Dragon Bothy imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels

Firestone Walker's Anniversary Ales are always some of my favorite beers of the year, and the XIX was no exception. This year's version is 33% Parabola imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels, 33% Stickee Monkee quad aged in bourbon and brandy barrels, 16% Bravo imperial brown ale aged in bourbon and brandy barrels, and 16% Velvet Merkin imperial oatmeal stout aged in bourbon barrels. They reduced the number of components from previous years, so I didn't think it was as exceptionally complex as past editions, but all of the beers blended together really nicely. The beer is fairly sweet with flavors of chocolate, caramel, oak, bourbon, vanilla, caramelized brown sugar, oatmeal, leather, coconut, brandy, toffee, molasses, and coffee. I recommend watching out for it to hit liquor stores over the next week.

The new batch of Oskar Blue's Death By Coconut in short brown cans is much better than the last batch in the tall green stovepipe cans, as it has way more coconut character.
