What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (6 Viewers)

not sure if I've ever had it, but Crooked Stave is supposed to be great.
It's very very good.

They're not Denver beers, but Casey Brewing and Grimm Brothers are both quite good.  Grimm Brothers' head brewer/owner is a friend of some of the posters here.

Went to a sour/berliner/lambic fest today, had a crap load of good/great beers...didn't keep track of them, but several were top notch.

Also had a JJJULIUSSS last night, which is Tree Houses kettle and dry hopped version of Julius. Fan friggin tastic.

Was gonna grab some Goose Island Gillian today but at $30/bottle  decided to pass
I just had a glass of this at the local pub as they just tapped it

The flavor is great but the nose is something I am not crazy about. Medicinal in a band-aid sort of way

Last night they tapped Oskar Blues Chubna Imperial Scotch IPA

18th Street / Sour Note Blackberry Gose to start things off. Howlers of Four Fathers Crystal Gravy and Mr. Belvedere on deck. Then probably Rise of the Angels and Founders Ridankulous.

The gose is outstanding, unsurprisingly. Crystal Gravy is really good too -- SMaSH pale ale -- hoppy, but not overly so like so many of the IPAs that masquerade as APAs these days. Very well balanced and absolutely crushable even at 6.5% -- been very impressed with Four Fathers lately.

Thanks. I'm there right now. Sours aren't my favorite, but the beers here are insanely good.

ok they have a taproom only NE IPA that's like a Meyer lemon juice, it's unreal.

They make outrageous saisons too. Even if you're not a sour guy, try Mama Bear if you can. Just freakishly good -- and I'm not a cherry beer guy at all.

Just cracked a Enjoy After 12-26-15 -- less Brett than I was hoping for. Still very good, but Boulevard's Saison-Brett is a far better choice for affordable cellared funkiness. Speaking of which, a bottle of that is on deck most likely. Or an older Orval -- can't go wrong either way really.

In Vegas now, Elsyian Spacedust IPA. Firestone Luponic No. 1. Motherearth Quit Stalin BA Stout. Great stuff. None of it can touch the Crooked Stave IPA though.

Suggestions if you're still in Charlotte

Birdsong Jalapeno Pale

Lenny Boy Life in the South

Unknown Southern Hospitalitea
Got back to IL last night. Plan is to be out there to close on our house in mid-July. Heist is alledgedly canning Citraquential so will be all over that if it's around.

I have a Birdsong in the fridge now. Will keep an eye out for the other 2 when I move.

Picked up a couple bottles of Funky Buddha French Toast today and they had some Last Snow on the shelf so I grabbed one of those, too.  The Last Snow is supposedly a 2015, so Im curious to see how the coconut and coffee have faded.

I first tried funky buddha at GABF in Denver a few years ago, was really impressed so I googled the company and saw that an old friend of mine owned the brewery.  I used to play FF with the dude, had no idea he had gotten into the brewing business.

Thats pretty cool! Found out the Last Snow I picked up today is a Jan 2016 bottle, and it held up great, drinking it now.

FB is one of the best breweries in the state, the dude must be raking in the cash!

Tried a NE style IPA for the first time on Tuesday.  Can't get that beer out of my head...so unique and delicious.  It was a homebrew made by a guy about to go pro and open up a brewery in the Ft Mill area.

He seems to be doing very well.  Reconnected with him on the Facebook - he goes to all of these craft-beer conferences, seems like the life.  When I knew him, he was an electrical engineering technician and last I had heard from him, he was installing countertops.  Basically, his brother owned a bar, and started homebrewing.  my friend bankrolled him turning it into a brewpub and it took off from there.

Hell yeah....I will be in south Charlotte so that's not too far from me. Do you know the name of the brewery?

Have a few breweries around here in Chicago releasing NE style IPA's too. Some better than others (ie Mikerphone and Hubbard's Cave) but even the average versions are pretty damn tasty. I am right there with you on the style. Love it.

He's gonna be called slow play brewery (I think).  He's probably a year from opening, he is looking for a location still so lots more hoops to jump thru.

I understand Heist makes a good NEIPA though.  Haven't tried it yet.

Yeah. Citraquential. How far is Noda from Uptown? I guess the real question is how long will it add to my commute home to south Charlotte?

NoDa is north-east of uptown - not really on the way if you are headed to Charlotte.

One place that's worth checking out is Red Clay ciderworks - it's off of South Blvd.  Good range of ciders, from dry and tart to semi-sweet.

Saturday I am hitting:

OMB

Triple C

Lenny Boy

Unknown Brewing

and a grand opening for a new one called Blue Blaze Brewing

I had a Lenny Boy sour last week that was fantastic, if you are into that kind of thing.  Holy Moly, I think it was...  they claimed it to have sweet potatoes and cinnamon (I think).
