Awesome beer. This #### is extreme. And I love it. I cant wait to take on the Double. I may save it for the Superbowl, but I dont know if I can wait that long.And I gotta reiterate something here - Racer 5 (which Im drinking now, after my battle with the *******), is freaking great as well. This bomber is better than the one I had the other night. Maybe the ******* woke up my tastebuds or something, but this Racer 5 is absoloutely one of the best IPAs Ive ever had. Im gonna have to edit my review over at BA and give it more credit. This stuff is righteous. Near perfect balance from the get go.
FatMax, you are the man for hooking me up with these beers. I couldnt be happier with the new beers Ive had the pleasure of trying this week.

Every so often, while battling the *******, after a sip I would let out a little chuckle, just because I couldnt believe how strong tasting and good this beer is. My gf kept looking at me like I was crazy....after a while, she couldnt resist and had to ask what was so funny. All I could say, with an ear to ear grin, was "This is some strong tasting f'n beer. This #### is unREALl!"I invited her to smell and taste it (she hates beer), and just the tiniest sip hit her lips and she cringed...."OMG thats nasty"

I gotta tell yall about a DVD I just scored on amazon.com for like $12. Its called American Beer (not the 1997 movie, but the 2004-2005 bockumentary). Its great. Every beer lover should see this DVD. 5 buddies go on a cross country trek to 38 craft breweries in 40 days. From DFH to Anderson Valley to Anchor to Redhook to New Glarus....from New York to California and back....definately worth checking out.

I decided on the Hercules over the Sleighor tonight. At 9.1%, these "Double IPA's" are certainly starting to look and taste a lot like barleywines. Regardless, the Hercules was everything I could have hoped for. Crisp hops with a huge alcohol presence polished off with a nice bitter signature. This beer is rated high for a reason. Moved next to the Sam Adams Imperial Pilsner. First things first...nobody and I mean nobody consistently conjures a good head like a Boston Beer Co beer. Whether its tagged as a macro or a micro, BBC is a remarkable brewery. But back to the pilsner...The first sip was too cold. It was a bizarre mix of uber euro style hops with a blend of bock maltiness. As it warmed and rounded out the flavors melded and I really began enjoying the beer. The head was truly amazing...as I homebrewer I really appreciate how difficult this is to do consistently. This beer was like someone took an IPA (using European hops) and mixed it with a nice Oktoberfest. Well worth grabbing a 22 oz.Tomorrow night...I have some Avery The Beast Grand Cru's...a whopping 15%. Got a couple tucked away to age so will probalby bust into one Friday.

Saw it last year at one of BA's beer fests. Pretty funny at times. When Sam of Dogfish was first shown the whole crowd cheered. Sam is one of the speakers at the extreme beerfest. I saw the comment about shipping being almost as much as the beer itself. What do you guys pay for some of these premium brews?I pay $8 for a four pack of DFH 90min. I can't get Stone. I can get all the unibroue I want. The big bottles are about $6-8, the sixers are around $8, but the variety in 6-pack is pretty limited.BTW, I can never keep the unibroue stuff straight. Which on is the triple wheat? and what is Terrible? I have a bottle of Terrible 2004 sitting in the cabinet. i should bust it out this weekend.Ah yes, Besides the current offering on tab at my house, I have a one year old DunkelWeissen that is going to be finished off this weekend. Its bottled and there are six left. I have to put it up into my Top 5 homebrew batches of all time. I also will be dry hopping my AB homebrew this weekend for two weeks before it goes to keg for a nice long nap.

I don't remember the exact dollar amount, but I'm pretty sure I pay about $3.50/bomber for Stone brews and about $4.50/bomber for the Bear Republic. Sixers of Stone are about $7.00 and sixers of Anderson Valley brews are about $8.00. So I figured I spent about $15 on the beers I sent to Wingnut, and it cost about $12 to ship, not including packaging materials.

Well, I went over the 5 1/2 beer prediction. I lost count after 10. My head hurts, I've got the shakes and I feel like I could hurl at any moment :XMiller Light for me tonight. The over/under is 5 1/2

I pretty much buy every beer I've never tried before, price doesn't deter me. The Avery I'll be drinking tonight was $7 for ONE 12oz bottle. Most 22oz Belgains are around $8. Everybody has a hobby, I suppose mine is drinking beer. Most of the really expensive beers are in the 10% + alcohol range...this is wine territory. And if I'd spend $15 bucks on a wine, I can do so for a beer.The only beer I've flinched at was the Sam Adams Utopias and Millenium, but I've never seen either for under $150.

I agree, I was just trying to get a gauge on what other people pay for premium brews. I always feel like the local shop is higher than it should be, but I'm just guessing.In my main local shop, we get DFH, Unibroue, tons of belgians and germans, and loads of micros from Colorado and Michigan. The MI brews are priced normally. The imports seem okay, I was mainly wondering about the premium micros.

BA fests are the absolute best. The Bros. do it up right. I used to work those fests a year or two back - lately family issues have coincided with the fest dates. I wanted to work this one and pour for Middle Ages, but it's also the day of my son's birthday party. Grrr.... Have fun!regularguy

On a more positive note, I went to the closest decent package store during lunch and snagged their last two sixers of SN Celebration Ale. Gotta make these last. I also bought a bomber of Rogue Chocolate Stout to try after reading someone on here rave about it.

Sam is a GREAT speaker. Saw/heard him a couple times at the National Homebrew Conference in Baltimore last summer. Great personality, great storyteller.Saw it last year at one of BA's beer fests. Ever had it before? My favorite beer in the world, period. Nectar of the gods. My buddy has a standing order to bring some back whenever he's in Germany, which is thankfully at least once a year.

Yep. Had it while in Germany and brought some home. That was a year and a half ago. Haven't been lucky enough to find any since. Had part of one bottle about 2 weeks ago. The bottle I'm hopefully picking up tonight has changed hands several times, but I finally got it in a "secure" location. If I can get there b4 6PM or get the cleaning crew to let me in if it's later I'll have it tonight. Unfortunately my daughter has field hockey practice until 6.I will. Thanks! Just to follow up. I exchanged a couple of emails today with the national sales manager for DFH. It sounds like they will be doubling the size of their brewery this year with expanded distribution in early 2007 (including Georgia). Unfortunately, Stone doesn't distrubute to NC yet. They are also expanding their brewery and hopefully will get out this way in the next couple of years.As far as weekend getaways, I live in Asheville and the beer selection has improved greatly since we popped the cap. I am also about an hours drive from Johnson City, TN where I can usually find Arrogant ******* and Ruination from Stone (no IPA though
). We also have two different brewpubs and 4 more local beer companies that brew stuff that you can get on tap. For a city this size, we have a great local beer scene. Just don't move here.

Good info, thanks. I've been checking out the beer stores listed at BA trying to find the closest stores with things I can't get here. You might have the best combo listed there.You know, I just kick myself for not discovering this side of beer sooner when I think about the places I've been in the last few years. My wife and I visited Asheville 2-3 years ago. Of course, we visited the Biltmore, but I don't remember having the first beer. Just last year, we went to San Diego, home of Stone. I did try a couple of local brews, but I was completely unaware of Stone. At this point, I'm just thankful our Dutch friend turned me on to Duvel when we went to Europe.Unfortunately, Stone doesn't distrubute to NC yet. Brick Store Pub. Its in Decatuer, but it is an easy one block walk from a Marta station. They have a great Belgian beer bar upstairs.

When I stayed downtown near the Underground it was a 15-20 minute train ride eastbound from the Five Points station. Had a Gulden Drakke, a Saison Dupont, and one other beer whose name escapes me know. All fresh on tap, great stuff.Not sure I'm going to make it outside of the city limits, but this is good to know for future trips.

Those two saisons make for an interesting comparison.Dupont is a very consistent product, and consistently excellent, IMO. Fantome makes at least 4 different saisons thru the year, and they vary wildly. (They may also vary from year to year for the same "season".) I've tried two Fantomes, both bottled; one was so "funky" as to be undrinkable, the other absolutely fantastic. I need to grab another one sometime to break the tie.
Goes to demonstrate how broad the Saison style can be.

Success! Someone was walking out of the building as I walked up so I snuck in before the door locked. Got the beer but I think I'm going to hold onto it until the SB.Having a new beer. Blue & Gray Classic Lager. Nothing to write home about. I did pick up some of my favorites tonight to have on hand for the game though. Titan IPA, Hercules, Racer 5 and Alpha King. There is a 24 hour convenience store / bodega down the block from me - and it surprisingly has some awesome beers. Aint cheap, but when its 11 or later and you want some really good beer, there it is. REALLY freakin' good. Now I know what all the hype was about.
Edit to add: What is the difference b/w the 90 min, and 60 min?
