What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

Since they can get Three Floyds stuff, they're bound to be able to get Dreadnaught. It's worth badgering the beer guy for. It will give him some relief from my weekly "do you have any Pliny yet?"  :D
Good luck with that. I live less than 100 miles from the brewery and have never seen it in any store. The G/F and I plan to make a trip to the coast in April and plan on stopping along the way at Russian River, Bear Republic, Lagunitas, Anderson Valley, maybe Mendocino and finishing it off at North Coast in Fort Bragg. Believe it or not, though we're probably going to do it over a couple of days, one could easily hit all of those breweries in a single day.http://www.russianriverbrewing.com/accounts/

Click link to find where it is sold (then be prepared to be disappointed).
I've done this tour twice (only with Marin Brewing and Calistoga Brewing instead of Bear Republic). It is truly awesome.

If you can swing it, DEFINITELY only do one a day.

The towns are very cool too and worth checking out.

All are great establishments.

The outdoor patio at Mendocino is one of the grooviest places in the world.

Especially in the summer.

Anderson Valley is just amazing for their beer, but the people are totally cool too.

The pub at North Coast has great food and the beer there is amazing also.

Man.

Good times.

Good times.

I've been to Bear Republic and North Coast of those but I just don't make it to that part of the state very often. Most of the times I've been down there I was on more of a wine tour than on a beer tour as well. I don't know if I've even had Russian River wines as they aren't available up here and I haven't been to the brewery. I'll be down in the bay area this weekend so I may have to keep my eyes peeled for brews unavailable up north. It's sort of a podunk town that is probably too far east to be considered Bay area so it probably won't be down there either (Brentwood/Byron area to the west of Stockton). On a sad note, the bar with Racer 5 on tap changed hands and it is closed for renovations to be turned into a wine bar. I have a couple of other places in town with decent micro selections but that place always had close to a dozen of them on tap and dozens of different beers available by the bottle.

Last night tried a "La Fin du Monde" for the first time and found it to be good, albeit different than anything I've had recently. I'd had a lengthy conversation with the ex-wife so I went for the thing in my beer collection that was 750 mL with 9% alcohol and promptly put the conversation behind me.

Thank me later. You will be closer to a good selection than you think.http://www.bevmo.com/storeinfo.asp?area=storeloc&store=42

Most of the times I've been down there . . .
Where you call home?
I'm up in Redding, which most haven't heard of. I'm about 2 hours or so north of Sac town.
Stayed in Redding a couple of years ago (on our way up to Oregon).Have been up all around you quite a few times - (Trinity Alps/Whiskey Town, Shasta, Lassen). Love it.

Also, the wifey has a lot of family a couple hours south (Chico and Paradise).

Ever get down to Sierra Nevada?

Went for the first time this last summer (most of her family doesn't drink, so it's hard to escape family duties :hot: )

Man.

That was killer.

Growing up, I always planned to go to Cooperstown, New York and hit the Baseball Hall of Fame as a pilgrimage of sorts. Recently I've decided to redirect and make that pilgrimage to Chico some time in the next couple years.

I can think of several beer vacations I would love to take. The California one sounds very intriguing because I haven't been there since I was 10. Another one I want to do before I die is a Belgian beer vacation.

Belgium would be about the super coolest thing ever. The boys are going to San Diego for the Stone 10th Anniversary this year, but I just don't see how I can swing that one.

Belgium sounds like going to Mecca.Another cool one we did a few years ago was Oregon.

(that was actually the trip when we stayed in Redding :D )

Some great stuff up there.

Highlight was DEFINITELY Rogue.

As good as it gets.

I'd head to the Sonoma Valley. Way more breweries. Chico only has two, Butte Creek and Sierra Nevada. Though I admit that Sierra is, well, Sierra.

Unfortunately all these trips require money and time. :sadbanana: The Stone 10th Anniversary would be a blast.

I am drinking Fat Tire, from the New Belgium brewery in Fort Collins, CO. My brother made the mistake of leaving a 6-pack at the house last week. I finally broke it open tonight, and I don't think it is going to last much longer.

Hadn't heard of these towns, but I checked out the map.Looks like you're going to be about ~ 45 minutes from Oakland/Berkely, yes?

If you have the time, and this isn't too far to drive, there's a couple of great brewpubs in the East Bay:

Berkeley

Oakland

Seems like there was a real good one in Alameda too.

The Tidehouse or something like that.

(It's been a few years since I lived up there).

Maybe our current Bay Area brethren can help you out.

Pyramid also has brewhouses in Berkeley

and Walnut Creek

Don't know about Stockton . . .

I went with a Yulesmith to start the night off.

Excellent beer. One of the better DIPAs Ive had. Will follow it with a couple of Celebration Ales.

I was talking to FatMax about the lack of good breweries in the south. Not one beer on the BA 100 top American beers. Hopefully that will improve over time. Are there any good brewpubs there?Edit: Reading comprehension must be down. You mentioned the brewpubs. :bag:

Real Ale is a very good brewery. Live Oak is too, but they're not terribly creative. They brew five or six things and do it very well. Saint Arnold is decent. The brewpubs around here are also OK. The only time they truly shine is at the Craft Brewers Festival in May when they can make small batches of creative stuff and go crazy.

drinking some Dogfish Head Shelter Pale Ale this evening. I went back to my home town on the Eastern Shore of MD last weekend and stocked up. GB only living 40 miles from the Brewery :banned:

Try checking out Floridas list of breweries. You wanna talk about WEAK? Look no further. Thank God for the beer we ARE able to get, and GB trading. Although theres a Beer Fest in Tampa next weekend that will have a ton of Florida beers....hopefully Ill find something worth drinking.

How well do you like Tampa Bay Brewing Company? I go there every time I visit my parents. Its not necessarily world class, but I really enjoy their beer.

Finally made it there a few weeks ago for the 1st time. Been there once since and will be there this Sunday meeting a few people from BA.I like it. Only tried the IPA and Porter, but both were good, and the food is pretty good as well.

Like you said, not world class, but for the area VERY good. Ill recommend it to anyone visiting the area that wants to try some good local beers.

edit: Love the atmosphere and location, and the outside balcony is cool for having a pint and a few appetizers and people watching.

In four hours I'm going to be sipping on beers from a Leinenkugel's variety pack. It's a midwest brew from Wisconsin. The berry and honey weiss are very popular and it's a good beer for the moderately lower price. I'm looking forward to it already.

Im not sure, but I think this thread has legs.
 I have since had a Lagunitas Brown Sugga, again from FatMax. A really great strong ale, with wonderful sweetness balanced by just a hint of hop bitterness. Now I just popped the top on a DFH90. I'm livin' large.

Inspired by this thread, and having only Pete's Wicked IPA in the fridge, I went out and bought one of those big bottles of Stone IPA and some Sierra Nevada Porter. All is right with the world again.

Sweet. Stone still doesn't distrubute here yet. I do love their IPA.

All we get are the IPA and Arrogant *******. I like both. In retrospect, I probably should have gotten the *******. I've been pretty hopped up lately. Still, it's not like you can really make a BAD choice between those two.

Yeah, the Arrogant ******* is one of my favorites. I at least have the option of driving an hour and picking some up, which I do every few months. The IPA is one of the better IPA's that I have ever had, and I can't get it across the border. I want to do a flight of IPA's with my friends that would include Stone, Titan IPA, Victory IPA, aomngst others.

Trying something new:

G. Schneider & Sohn

Aventinus

(wheat doppelbock)
You have found something good.
Yeah, I'll be curious to hear the review. I've got a bottle of this in the fridge waiting for me to try it. Trying DFH 60 Minute for the first time tonight. Then, I think I'm going to drink one of my last few Anchor Christmas Ales. They were just okay in my opinion and were nowhere near as good as Celebration Ale, the other seasonal I bought at the same time.

A Titan IPA, Alpha King, and a Troegs Nugget Nectar. I have a couple of Celebrators and one Andechs Dopplebock (been saving it for the right night) in the fridge that I'd like to dig into but I have to pick my daughter up from ice skating later.

Tell me where you live so I can sneak into your house and steal a couple of those Andech's .

Only one left. :( But when I go to Munich I plan on leaving my clothes behind and filling my suitcase with as many bottles as I can carry. :D

I've seen the Titan pop up a lot recently in this thread. Did they just get new distribution or something? As I've said, I hadn't heard of them six months ago and now it's one of my favorites. Not sure how you'd do a flight of IPAs. One would have to drink a lot of water in between to cleanse the palette.

I'm thinking small sample sizes. 4 ounces per beer.
The first time I ever had Titan was at a party where everyone was sampling. Finally, I had to say "It would be easier on both of us if you dispensed with the samples and just gave me a pint glass and a couple bottles of the Titan."
