What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (1 Viewer)

Since I'm officially out of 'new' beer to sample (thanks again Kilgore), I just popped open a bomber of Ruination. Damn, this #### is good. It's not as well balanced as DFH 90 (it lacks the sweet malt backbone), but I'll be damned if I could tell you which DIPA I like more. If forced at gunpoint, I'd probably say Ruination, but that may only be because I'm drinking one right now.
Love it. Have you tried the El Torro IPA being from Cali and all?
I've never seen it. Ever. It only has 25 reviews on BA, so it probably isn't well distrubuted. I'd like to, however. I can hook you up with some Sac locals, though I can't promise they'll be as good.

Wait a minute.I went to a party in MH last summer, and I'm almost positive they served this.

I asked the rent-a-bartender about it, and he didn't know much about it, other than it was local.

That was damn fine brew!

My special selection to start the night:

Sea Dog Bluepaw (wild blueberry wheat ale)

:lmao:

A guy I work with tells me its quote-unquote "sooooo goooood!!! When you pop the top its like you opened a can of blueberry filling. Sooooo gooooood!", and then he gives me one to try. Ive had it for a week and need to get rid of some mediocre stuff in my fridge so Ill start with this one. Drinking average beers makes me appreciate the good stuff though, so its not entirely a bad thing.

Here goes nuthin.......

I've had a hard time finding the IPA around SF but you may have seen their flagship beer. Poppy Jasper. I think it is a pale ale but it is damn fine Pale Ale to boot.

I think you're probably right. There's a liqor store in Salinas with an excellent selection.

Next time I'm out there, I'll have to see if they carry it.

Good lord...3 Bigfoots and I'm jamming to the oldies. :heeadbang:
emitocons need spaces on each side, drunk guy!
HEEAD BANGbtw, avatar down
From :heeadbang: to :waall: As in, why did I drink so many bigfoots? :wall: :coffee:
The question is, how are you up already after so many late bigfoots?!?!?:grizzledvet:

Alright, so has anybody ever tried Dale's Pale Ale? It's from Oskar Blues in Colorado and actually comes in a can! Got an 85 on BA.

Reason I ask is I've got some on the way. My sister who brought me back the DFH from NC a couple of weeks ago just called me from the best liquor store in Athens (she's a student at UGA) and asked me if I wanted anything. I gave her a few names w/o trying to overload her. She called back and said she got a sixer of this Dale's Pale Ale (guy at the store sold her on it) and a sixer of SN Bigfoot Ale which I told her about (never tried it). So, I guess I'll post a review in a couple of days. Especially looking forward to trying the Bigfoot.

Who knows - maybe I can educate my sister and BIL on finer beers. She's actually got a bartender's license and likes Hefes and Black/Tans. Meanhwhile, my BIL has been known to drink Zima so probably not much hope there. :bag: :lmao:

Oh, and I'll be slumming it tonight at the local bar for trivia and $1.50 High Life. I'd spend more for good beer, but they really don't have any.

I haven't tried it but I have heard good things. Had no idea you could get it in Athens, hopefully it will make it up to North Carolina soon. I need a good 'camping' beer.

I think it's just made its way to Georgia. Green's in Atlanta now shows it (and Titan IPA) on its website too. The guy at the store told her that it's made in a can because the guy who owns/runs/? the brewery loves to play golf, and cans are easier to take golfing that bottles.

Currently trying Hacker-Pschorr Hefe Weisse for the 1st time. I'm liking it.

Really creamy. I never would have thought banana flavours satisfying in a beer.

Today I made a stop at the Liquor Store today to pick up something new.

Came back with Hacker-Pschorr, Schneider Adventinus, Chimay White, and best of all a 5-bottle St. Bernardus gift pack:

Pater 6, Prior 8, Abt 12, Tripel, and Watou Tripel

I was half-giddy and smiling on my way out - I think the cashier thought I was diggin' her!
curious to hear your thoughts on the Schneider Adventinus...
Just finished the Aventinus.I was looking forward to this beer - my first Weizenbock.

Simply put, it's just not for me.

It's a good looking beer. Nice cloudy root-beer colour with a thick one finger light tan head.

Smell wasn't that appetizing to me. Medium-strength spicy/dark fruit aroma.

Taste and feel is big, malty and spicy. Alcohol is apparent. Not off-putting, very warming.

Cherry/sherry tones become very prominent to me as the beer warms, as does lasting clove.

I literally winced with the last sip which I can't remember doing before.

I imagine this a cold-weather sipper for wine-lovers.

Back to my regular, Creemore Springs Lager.

Speaking from experience...don't try to slam 3 or 4 Bigfoots in an hour or 2.

One of the local water hole's has 2 dollar pints on Tuesdays (including Bigfoot!!!!)

Dogfish Head Aprihop

Found a 4 pack at the local store and scooped it up.
Couldnt even finish it...The stomach wasnt settled yet...Skipping beer tonight, but tomorrow Ill probably crack open my 1st ever Stone Ruination.

I got your asses covered.

Just drove 10 1/2 hours to Durham NC and am now buzzing from a Carolina Double Bock, some Albany Pump Station Winter Ale, a hit of Dominion Oak Barrel Aged Millenium, and a warming serving of Aberlour Abunadh single-barrel. Oh, yeah, there was a Karl Strauss Ofest in there too. Simply perfect buzz. The Ithaca Double IPA and reposado will wait until tomorrow.

Gotta love getting together with old buds - including one from 1st grade.

It's about time. I was wondering how long you'd be able to look at that sucker in the fridge and resist the temptation.I down to just three DFH 90s.

The over the top clove made me sick.

You rat bastards, I'm still at work where I have no beer. I hate reading this thread on Fridays when the Eastenders have a full three hour head start on me!

I've got a fully loaded fridge when I get home though. Spent about $100 the other day on new arrivals at the beer store. I'll be starting it off with a 2006 Marin Star Brew-Triple Wheat

BTW this place still has CASES of Celebration ale for those in socal.

Currently working on Ithaca Anniversary Stout, which is rapidly disappearing amongst this band of dark beer fans. Still a little bit of Cascazilla left. Abunadh is also dying a quick death. The reposado is getting cracked at 9 PM.

CB not having to drive. Hell yeah!!

Currently drinking another Ruination. I think I must have had about three of these this week. I'm not complaining about that. The guy at the beer store has been out of Racer 5 for a week and a half and this is my second favorite IPA right now.

I have some Sudwerk Hefeweisen in the fridge as well as some Deschutes Mirror Pond Pale Ales and Stone IPAs. Oh, and then I have some DFH 90s and SNPAs. And also two Celebration Ales that I'm saving.

With all this stock, I'm still going to hit the mega beer store tomorrow.

Anyone hankering for more SN Celebration once the supply dries up let me know and Ill trade you some...My warehouse still has about 50 cases, so I should be able to get it just about anytime.

Last October they still had some 04 in the warehouse, but I didnt jump and let it slip by.

Im drinking a bomber of Racer 5 at the moment...fantastic beer.....Im saving the Ruination for Sunday.

Just got back from the local Beer Fest. Tried about 20 or so beers, but nothing really amazing. I did have some good food at the Tampa Bay Brewing Co though...

I think Im done with beer today...Buzz has faded and I think Im gonna take a lil nap

ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Nap be damned!

Im drinking a Lindemans Framboise Lambic, but only because the gf wanted to try it after liking some of the fruit beers at the fest...

This is actually the 1st time Ive ever tried it as well....A bit too sweet for my taste, but pretty tasty nonetheless. Not sure if Lambic should even be considered beers, but I can now say Ive tried it.

so far tonight...

1 Sierra Nevada Wheat

1 Abita Light

1 Pyramid Apricot Weizen

1 Buffalo Bill Pumpkin Ale

1 North Coast Red Seal Ale

1 Anchor Steam

1 17oz. Samuel Smith Pale Ale

2 Abita Turbo Dog

Having a tasty DFH Chicory stout. Such a nice beer. Smooth with a touch of rounded coffee flavor...balanced with a nice sweetness. And its my last one until they start distributing again.
