What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

Ramen noodles (cuz some ####### stole my sub outta the fridge) and water. :( But I did smuggle a couple of Stone IPAs in with me. :scared:
you live in a commune or something?or was the "#######" actually you in a drunken fugue?
I forget stuff when I'm drunk. Unfortunately that's not the case.I'm at work. Big happenings this weekend. Been here since 9am (ish). Will be here until 7am. Come back at midnight. Leave at noon. I bought an extra sub when I went to lunch knowing I wouldn't be able to get out for dinner.
 what in thee hell do you do???
 Not much. :D

Technical support. Official title is something like systems support engineer. Onsite contractor for a large bank. They bought another bank and are "going live" with about 100 new servers (little $50Kish boxes) and asked me to be here during the "critical" hours.

Got another one going live next weekend. Big mother. Weighs 3000lbs and cost about $2mil. They haven't asked me to come in after hours for that yet. But I have a feeling they will.
ahh. i know bank mergers. makes sense now.
And what sucks is both of my kids are out of town. Could have a nice long weekend alone with my wife. :hot:

I've been trying to be all healthy and stuff lately, so I haven't been around much.

Just polished off a three philosophers.
Very nice, love that beer.Working on a Troegs Nugget Nectar myself.

The only "beer" I have left in the house is some michelob ultra that was left over here from an NFL playoff party I had. Creates an interesting conundrum.
Sounds like you are ready to get some new beer in that there fridge of yours. Perhaps almost ready to start trading

After the Alpha King and the Two Hearted (should have reversed them - both good but the TH paled in comparison), tried the Broken Halo from Widmer Bros, even knowing it would probably suck.

Bitter and sour. Blech - poured out after 3 sips.

Had to go with a decent one after that, so:

[Wingnut] DFH Immort Ale #####es! [/Wingnut]

A very good but very complex beer. Gonna have to try that one again but as a first beer, just to make sure the palate is clean. Think I'll have to try the Raison d'Etre again too - the only one from DFH that I haven't liked. It was almost dead flat and very syrupy when I had it.

Skylord, I'll have the Siletz Spruce Ale queued up for tomorrow. It's darn hot here (highest temps in almost 20 years, and the window unit isn't helping enough) so the porter may have to wait.

Check your local forums on beer advocate. I posted about Siletz and got a lot of feedback. It really sounds like I had piss poor luck and got boned by all four bottles.

My palate is effed so I'm drinking a non ratable. Gordon Biersch Light. Its crap compared to Sam Adams.

I'll rate it at a later date but I see something in the mid to high 2's in its future.

If the heat was bad (and we've had some bad days here this summer - as all have) that might have contributed. I know LS has suspended sending out until the heat breaks early next week.Speaking of LS, they said their sale will be primarily mead and soda, though they will have some beers marked down as well. Will check in tomorrow afternoon with what's available.

While you are there, if you see a bottle of Jadwiga, I'd appreciate a bottle. LS used to mention that they had it (yet always out of stock). As of recently they completely removed it from their website but you never know.

And to think, I felt like a yuppie when I walked to the checkout lane with a 12-pack of Sam Adams Light. I come here and I'm sent back to the redneck abyss.

Review of coldchills home brews:

Sloberknocker Ale - This beer poured a pretty dark, cloudy amber color. The smell was light and sweet. This did not have a very strong favor to it but it still wasn't bad. If this only had a little more bite to it, it would be really really good. In the end a very easy to drink smooth brew.

Mean Bean - This dude pours very dark. As i was pouring it into a few glasses for us to try my buddy went to the fridge and pulled out the syrup. He said, "I have some stuff like that here." The chocolate and coffee are most noticeable. If this is the 11% ABV as you estimated it may very well be the smoothest ever.

In the end both of these are very good. For being Ales they could use more hoppyness in them for that little extra bite. Again, thanks to coldchill for sending these to me.

Thanks for the reviews. The pale ale certainly didn't have the hop bite that I had hoped for, I'm going to revisit my hop schedule to try to get better utilization in my next pale ale. I'm also going to full boils, that should improve the impact of the hops. The Mean Bean ABV was estimated via the drop in gravity. I took the original gravity reading twice because it was so high. Because it was a 3 gallon batch the liquid yeast had a high enough cell count to get the job done, then I added champagne yeast when I racked to the secondary. It's not my favorite style of beer, but all of the stout drinkers that I know have liked it. You and your buddy had one of only 28 bottles made.

WTF.

I just searched for a thread on beer advocate that I wanted an update on. Last time someone posted in it was June 14. I go to reply and it says:

"You can no longer reply to this thread: too old."

Seriously. Why? If I post a new thread about this topic somebody will give me #### for not using the search function. The last reply is barely a month old.

St. Bernadus Abt 12 60th Anniversary is apparently hitting stores. Reports of it in Atlanta, and my "local" store in Athens says they're getting it on Monday.

on to a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

having heard this called a good introduction to IPA's,  i'm pretty disappointed.  maybe it's cause i've had hoppier and more flavorful IPA's.. this one just isn't doing it for me.

Cane & Ebel >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SN IPA
Key word here is introduction. And remember, its a pale ale, not an IPA. They were revolutionizing the cascade hop before IPA's had hit the market from centuries prior.
it says IPA on the bottle but it's not an IPA?
Could be. They make an IPA and a Pale ale. Which do you have? The Pale Ale is the popular one.
definitely IPA. dark green label.
Techinically, it's classified as an English IPA, and they tend to resemble ESBs more than American IPAs. That's probably where the confusion is coming from.

Are you kidding me?

I've been talking with the guy who traded away the BA Speedway, I met him in line. He's taking a lot of heat for the trade. But if someone is stupid enough to offer this up, do you really say no?

I am sitting in an el cheapo hotel in Ellensburg Washington drinking a Full Sail IPA. Not the greatest IPA, but very drinkable. In less than an hour, we are making a trek down to the Gorge to see Pearl Jam.

jeebus.. in all honesty.. i'd have told the guy to pare the list waaaay back. seriously. that's just ridiculous. i'd have taken probably 2-3 off your list above and been done with it.

karma man. karma.

I think the answer is, yes you make the trade. But DO NOT POST the outcome! That was pure stupidity on his part. He could have quietly made out like a king with out looking like the bad guy. Some people in the beer advocate thread said they wouldn't trade with him ever again. I guess he burned some bridges

truth. i wouldn't have posted the results.. just let people guess. no one would have thought it went THAT far.

i know nflmvp for one is a guy he's traded with in the past who won't do business with him again.. whatareyougonnado?

For sure, definitely wouldn't want to go around bragging about "stealing" from the other trader.

Got a couple of new one's (to me) while I was out.

Daleside Monkey Wrench

Geary's Hampshire Special Ale

Left Hand Jackmans

Weyerbacher Quad

Weyerbacher Hops Infusion (not really new to me, but the new recipe might be)

Also got the 4 pack of Duvel with the glass. I've bought it for friends in the past, but never for myself.

It honestly really puts me in a bind. I planned on allowing this trade to set the high water mark then take it from there, but I never imagined it would get this out of control. Thats seriously at least ten to fifteen times the value of the BA Speedway. Repeating something like that would be committing hari-kari on my username at Beer Advocate. I drove a long distance and waited in line for a long time for this beer, I would like to trade it for more than its "$20 face value" but nothing that extravagant.

I may just sit on them for a year and see what happens. Really not sure what I am going to do. This caught me off guard in a big way.

In one weekend the wife broke one and chipped the other Duvel glass. I'll be purchasing some new sets as soon as they come back around my stores.

Yeah, maybe letting that situation die/settle will be the best route.

I hadn't seen them at my regular stores recently. This was at a cheese shop that carries a small number of beers. It was a little more expensive than I have paid in the past, but I'll be making a "few" extra dollars this weekend so I figured why not.

not too shabby. tasted like a good American macro. this would be consumed en masse were i a Pole.

Stone Levitation. :banned:
You likey?I'm finishing up a Booneville Summer Solstice...pondering what's next.

7 more reviews and I hit the 200 mark. If I stay with the low alcohol beers I might pull this off this weekend.

Yeah. This along with the Stone PA make great beers to have a bunch of, not too heavy.
