What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (3 Viewers)

Had the Cascazilla just now. I liked it. One "problem" -- the first drink of that was so good that I take a huge drink. Almost half the glass. It just tasted good. I guess I was thirsty. I give this one a  . And I usually don't like Red Ales.

Had the Heinnieweiss yesterday too. That was very good as well. Not a typical Hefeweiss. But really good.

Terrapin Rye Pale Ale.

And here's to hoping you get back on the wagon soon, Tiptop.  Or is it off the wagon?
Just had one of those for the firs time. Liked it.
If you can arrange yourself a Rye Squared, I'd highly recommend it.
I am an idiot. I was getting the beer from coldchill out of the fridge to put in the ice chest and i pulled one of these out. So i will be trying one tonight. :banned:

Having this one now. Like it quite a bit. Will review shortly at BA.

CascaZilla review:

A: Pours a dark, cranberry red, with a very small head with little retention. No lacing. 3.5

S: Sweet, fruity notes, with the hops also quite present in the nose. Very appealing. 4

T: Though the aroma makes you think you are going to get a hops blast, the initial flavor is quite sweet -- red grapes and a bit of grapefruit. The hops come around late and leave that classic IPA/APA like bitterness on the back of your tongue. Very good. 4

M: Crisp and refreshing, nice carbonation which keeps it very fresh. 4

D: Very high. Nice mix of bitterness and fruitiness keeps you coming back for more. 4

Overall: Great red ale. Wish I had more than one. 3.9

Having a Fred from the Wood now. Thanks to Duckboy for this. I like this better than the only other barleywine I've had -- SN Bigfoot 06. Still has the alcohol bite like that one. And I don't like that. But this one has much better caramel/maple/wood flavor than the Bigfoot. I am reviewing it at RB now.

Barleywines become much much smoother with some age on them.

I have 5 BFs I am aging to find out exactly that. I also have a couple more of these from DB, plus I ordered 6 more from LS. Along with a bunch of other stuff in the order. Can't remember what.

Rate Beer charges you?!?!?! It says my membership expires tomorrow. $12.99 a year? No thanks.

ETA:

This fact made me copy my review to BA. It's on there now (4.05). Although my review was heavily impacted by the fact that the alcohol stood out too much on this beer. Needs some age, as Tip Top noted.

No, you aren't charged. They have a premium membership. You'll notice that tomorrow it will say that your membership expires the following day.

I'd really like to get into some of my stouts, but its just too darn hot.
:chicken:NG - i'm drinking a Two Brothers Cane & Ebel

not too bad. GREAT smell. the hop bite was a little disappointing.. i knew it was supposed to be a hopped red rye but i was expecting more citrus in the flavor. still a 3.85.

That's a solid beer. Got a couple stashed in the basement.

$12.99 for a lifetime membership wouldnt be worth it. That site blows.Every try to read posts that ave fallen off the 1st page over there? They dont exist.

And now, for my drinking pleasure, I will crack and drink an Alpine Beer Co Pure Hoppiness (read the latest review from our fellow BIF guy while youre there)

The reviews suck but the site has WAY more features than BA.

on to a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

having heard this called a good introduction to IPA's, i'm pretty disappointed. maybe it's cause i've had hoppier and more flavorful IPA's.. this one just isn't doing it for me.

Cane & Ebel >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SN IPA

I might have to have one of these again soon. I've started to notice that I don't seem to hate the hop bite as much as I did a few months back.

Key word here is introduction. And remember, its a pale ale, not an IPA. They were revolutionizing the cascade hop before IPA's had hit the market from centuries prior.

I forget stuff when I'm drunk. Unfortunately that's not the case.I'm at work. Big happenings this weekend. Been here since 9am (ish). Will be here until 7am. Come back at midnight. Leave at noon. I bought an extra sub when I went to lunch knowing I wouldn't be able to get out for dinner.

Could be. They make an IPA and a Pale ale. Which do you have? The Pale Ale is the popular one.

Technical support. Official title is something like systems support engineer. Onsite contractor for a large bank. They bought another bank and are "going live" with about 100 new servers (little $50Kish boxes) and asked me to be here during the "critical" hours.

Got another one going live next weekend. Big mother. Weighs 3000lbs and cost about $2mil. They haven't asked me to come in after hours for that yet. But I have a feeling they will.
