What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (4 Viewers)

Jeezus. AKSmokedPorter got nuked? Helluva good guy - met him at a few BA fests.
How do you know it was him? Maybe I missed the reference in the thread.
This was his post in there (His RB username is a number):
People have been contacting me to make some sort of statement about my being "locked out" of the other site. I do not wish to fuel any fires, but rather in essence let the beer community here on RB know what occurred in my particular case:

My account was locked due to "inappropriate usage of BeerMail." I had taken exception to the spouse of one of the administrators and her caustic response in a thread. Apparently, the flashing neon lights of it being a "joke" were lost on me, and lost on half a dozen BA’s who responded in kind to her classless post. My status as a regional guide was then stripped from me that evening with no decency of a warning or a note stating why. BeerMails sent by me asking why this occurred were not immediately responded to, owing to how "busy" the brothers were. One did in fact respond first a day later and had assumed it to be a mistake, and would look into reinstating me as it was obvious I was an active BA and he could see no reason for my removal.

Once it was shown to me later via BeerMail why in fact my status was stripped (allegedly posting inappropriate content "all the time"), I forwarded my situation to 25 other regional guides warning them to "toe the party line and behave" lest they experience the same fate as myself.

The administrators apparently had received a mass of BeerMails fowarding my innocent note of warning back to him stating what a crock they thought it was. I was then warned that if he received one more note concerning this issue my account would be immediately be locked.

The night of January 11th, my account (holding over 2025 beer reviews and 175 establishment reviews) plus dozens of others were either locked or banned outright. The purge has since steadily continued with those voicing their anti-administrator opinion on the subject.

The other site used to be a place where community mattered; when it was a labor of love and tended to with respect. Countless times the huddled masses were informed dictatorially that it is now grown into a "business" and their "livelihood" and any straying from the branded company line will not be dealt with. I am sad my time there has apparently ended; although being locked and not banned reserves the possibility of a return. I truly wonder if they will reach out to me to return. I hope so, but I will not stay by the computer anxiously awaiting that note.

Personally, I feel that as a "business" now, some proper business tactics and propriety should be in order. Alienating the base of your business is no way to run it. Members locked or banned include quite a number of beer lovers who have been there for years and, frankly, were more likely to be approached than the administrators due to our accessibility. At least that is what I found in my case.

Add to this mix the caustic and frankly classless ramblings of a powerful spouse, and the atmosphere has deteriorated beyond comprehension. As a "business", having her be a mouthpiece for the brand is stunningly asinine and a prescription for disaster. Advertisers and/or investors in their "brand" need to look into their actions, their dealings with their core membership, and the personal website of the spouse to really wonder if this is where they want their hard-earned money going.

It is a sad situation, and probably beyond repair, but I long for some sort of positive conclusion to this awful turn of events. It appears the core focus has strayed from a friendly community online to the rigorous dealings of magazines and brewpubs.

That’s that, and I am not going to comment further.

Cheers.

Skylord, Tip Top, bakes, and anyone else that has a lot of reviews - you might want to back those up in a Word document or something. I'd be pissed if I poured in thousands of reviews and had the carpet yanked by that jackass.

I'm letting it come up to a bit warmer temp.

The head isn't great, it does have the right color, but the smell is a little sweet IMO. I've had it before and as I recall, it does finish a bit too sweet and not enough malt.

Drank it. It ended better than it started. Not bad, but not fantastic.

:coffee:Im doing that tonight. Don't want to lose my 100 and change, can't imagine TT or Skylords. :thumbup:Is anyon here signed up at RB?

You'll be fine as long as you don't rock the boat. Don't post in the forums over there, and heaven forbid don't criticize or piss off the Alstroms or their spouses. Funny about Todd's wife, as Jaysus had PM'd me a pretty heated beermail exchange he had with her (although I deleted the PM  ). I don't post much over there anyways and will continue to use the site as a resource, but there ain't no way I am giving them any of my money.

The more I read about these dudes the more I want to stop rating beers there.

I am planning on doing this. Just haven't had the time yet. It will be a slow process.

Beginning to work on a comprehensive release date list for seasonal beers but 'tis not easy. Stone, DFH, Smuttynose, and Victory are some sites with this kind of info readily available but most aren't so friendly.Who is our resident PA guy? I'm only seeing one (Victory) Old Horizontal review on BA that appears to be clearly from a 2006 bottle and it was supposed to have come out in Dec.I'd like to go on a barleywine kick. Really wishing I had purchased the Old Ruffian and North Coast Old Stock when I saw them a couple months ago. Should be able to get Old Guardian and Bigfoot in a couple weeks.
If you want NC Old Stock there is both 2005 and 2006 floating around here. I'd love to get hold of some East Coast brews.

DB, 1/30/2007 10:01 pm Transit through sort facility. Chehalis, WAI was wondering if I was going to see that the thng hadn't moved for 3 straight days. Hopefully this means delivery tomorrow but who knows.
That's the first stop for sorting all of my outgoing packages, so I would suspect that today's the day  The CA boys' beer hasn't left Fresno yet, but I suspect they just haven't been logged as out. Maybe today's the day for others as well.
My wife called a bit ago and confirmed a beer delivery. "You got a package from a "Duckboy" to a "Men-in-Cleats", is that another one of those beer things? How cute."

Just got the back end of a trade with orcinus:

GI IPA

GI Bourbon County Stout

GI IIPA

GI Christmas Ale

Bells Two Hearted

Boulevard Bully Porter

Boulevard Nut Cracker Ale

Boulevard Mueller PA

:wall:

Duckboy's been going crazy trading lately. He and Gator must have some sort of contest going or something.
Just trying to get Abyss out to deserving beer drinkers :banned:
:pics: Same here with the FS 10. :(
I guess I am not deserving... :lmao:
Didn't I post that if you couldn't find one to let me know? I thought I did, but thats me thinking again. Im 100% sure we can work something out. :banned:

Glad you looked past the "deserving beer drinkers" part and sent me some anyhow. :banned: Your package will be mailed tonight on my way home from work. I had it all ready to ship yesterday and was on my way home and looking to stop by the dropoff place when I realized that I'd left my DHL shipping label on my desk at work. "####!" was all that came to mind at the time.On a different note, are there any decent beer stores in the vicinity of the Lloyd center? I'll be up in Portland for our company basketball tournament on March 10 and will be staying right by it. I may be up for seeing if you wanted to get a beer somewhere that weekend but not sure if I'll be able to do it though as I've got a good friend from college and his wife that I may be meeting up with if I get some free time. Also, I typically try to cornhole with General Malaise the weekend of that tourney as well and could make it a threeway if you were up for it. Typically involves beer and occasionally strippers.

Occasionally? This place is a bit out of the way but you might be able to swing by there. I bought beer at the Whole Foods downtown when I was there, but parking is a ##### to get in and out of.
The occasionally stemmed from last year him having company that Saturday forcing us to meet for breakfast on Sunday morning. Otherwise it probably would have been Saturday night at the Acropolis again.

The Mueller PA isn't a Boulevard. It's made right here in Springfield.

what you lookin' for? i'm not sure that i'm going to be taking new trades soon unfortunately but i'll consider it. i have two on the table between skylord and NG and I think the shipping bill on DB's box is going to run me over $30 because I packed it so inefficiently. So it's a $$ thing compounded by the fact that I drink beers at a rate considerably slower than the other guys in here.

if i do drink tonight it will either be the Mephisto or a second tour with the Viscosity. Trying to measure the american strong ales and recent RIS/double stouts that I've had against each other.

Think I'll go fer the Abyss tomorrow night or over the weekend.

I am.

Burning River Pale Ale from Great Lakes Brewing Co.

Good stuff.

Over the weekend, I had Goose Island Imperial IPA.

Best IPA ever to be in my belly.
Try a Three Floyds Dreadnaught. Binny's or Sam's has it year-round now. Slightly different beers, as GI Imperial is more rounded in terms of flavors, but the Dreadnaught is generally considered top of the class or top few in the class. Simply outstanding floral and citrus hops overwhelming you, just like the GI Imperial.

MIC, if you want go ahead and complete the trade with nase, and we can work on something whenever you are ready. No matter how long that takes.

This is my next MUST find brew... my local used to have it, but have not seen it in some time.

Not at all. Just offering to step aside for right now and let you two crazy kids work something out.

The Dreadnaught... I have had the GI IIPA, thanks to you already. I might look into that. I am gonna look hard next time I am out to buy brews. I haven't been out to buy brews in a few months as I am getting my cellar down to almost nothing.

Thanks for the tip. I usually hit Sam's every Friday to stock up, so I'll get some to keep me warm this weekend.
