They are not necessarily my favorites, but based on what I think you are looking for, I bolded some suggestions for you. Just remember that IPA = India Pale Ale = hoppy = bitter.thanks, FatMax.Yeah, most of the time, bitterness can be associated with hops.I'll show my good beer n00bness with a stupid question for the beer guys - Over the last few months (since I found a place I can buy micros and imports) I've tried about 60 different beers. A couple of things I've noticed is that I pretty much like all the wheats. One reason is that they don't seem to have the bitter aftertaste. A friend of mine told me that the bitter aftertaste is the taste of the hops. Is this correct?

I love most of those beers, but I'm not sure fuller will. These are my recommendations:
DOGFISH HEAD:
60 Min. IPA - Nicely hopped IPA with a great floral aroma.
NORTH COAST BREWING CO.:
Old Rasputin - Strong great tasting stout
STONE BREW:
Arrogant ******* - A strong tasting beer that is perfectly balanced between the biscuity malt and the in your face hops
Ruination IPA - Hops that slap in in the face
Russian Imperial Stout - I haven't had this but I have heard that it is a wonderful beer. Once again, this is a real strong stout
UNIBROUE: (The belgians are not very bitter, as they use low amounts of hops)
Maudite - Belgian strong dark ale, malty with belgian spiciness
Trois Pistoles - Another strong dark ale, fruity with lots of alcohol
La Fin Du Monde - Nice Belgain strong pale ale, has hints of coriander,
Duvel - Another great Belgian strong pale ale, effervescent
Sierra Nevada Big Foot - Malty sweet and super hopped. Not for the faint of heart.
Ayinger Celebrator - Dark and sweet with lovely tastes of roasted malt, a world class beer
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
You're absolutely right. I tried to provide descriptions so he can choose some that might fall more into his personal taste. The Duvel, La Fin de Monde, and Pranqster should all be up his alley. He should experiment with some different hefe weizens and dunkel weizens. Belgian Wit beers would also be good.
Bolded are my picks.Duvel is a must try. Pretty much sets the standard for the Belgian Strong Pale Ale. Insanely drinkable at 8.5%thanks, FatMax.Yeah, most of the time, bitterness can be associated with hops.I'll show my good beer n00bness with a stupid question for the beer guys - Over the last few months (since I found a place I can buy micros and imports) I've tried about 60 different beers. Nice to see a fellow malthead on board. Personally, I prefer Belgians, doppels, hefes, porters, and stouts. I do love a good IPA, but I'm not really big on hop bombs. Just a bit overwhelming for me. Oh, and go find St. Bernardus somewhere. If you can't, I'll send you some.thanks guys. This helps alot. You're absolutely right. They want to be in Georgia, but I have heard they are waiting to increase production. Should be there in about a year or so. They do have it up here in North Carolina, and also in Tennessee and Florida I believe.Anyone from Atlanta know if Dogfish Head is available here? I haven't seen it anywhere.

How much do you spend on a good bottle of wine? Some of the Belgians rival wines in both alcohol content and taste complexity. They are still a bargain if you ask me.Uh. Yeah.
I about crapped myself when I paid $10 for a beer the other day, in a freakin' store nonetheless.

I had to google jeroboam. Its what, the equivalent of 4 750 ml bottles? I hope you had friends to share that with. The most I have ever paid for a beer was $20 for a 750 of Allagash Interlude, a saison aged in wine barrels.most I ever paid for a single bottle was $15 (750ml DFH 120)
Oh wait, I paid over $50 for a jeroboam of Ommegang Hennepin

I've got four of those pupsBut one of THESE. Providing you dont' break it, you'll never need another glass. It's like college here, just more fun, and for beer.Maybe something like this.?Not at your every day grocery store. But a high end liquor store should have both.
And always drink them out of the proper glass at about 55 degrees. In both these cases, a wide rimmed glass will work.

Deus can get pricey. That might be itI'm kicking myself because I can't remember the name of it right now, but the local Bevmo stock a Beligian that is about $30 for a 750ml bottle. I can see the bottle in my head, but can't remember what it is. Trout probably knows.
One of these days I should just break down and buy it.

I know a guy who paid $100 for two 7-oz "nip" bottles of Thomas Hardy's Ale - the 1968 vintage!. Kilgore beat me to it. Yes, they should be here in 2007. Chattanooga is probably the best bet for now - you could get both DFH & Stone beers. Have you tried any of the Great Divide beers? I agree. $8.95 for a 750ml of St. Bernardus or Westmalle is a bargain, IMO.How much do you spend on a good bottle of wine? Some of the Belgians rival wines in both alcohol content and taste complexity. They are still a bargain if you ask me.Uh. Yeah.

Hi, my name is Kilgore. I want to be your friend.I have been stockpiling Three Floyds Drednaught Imperial IPA this spring. Every time I go to the brew store, I pick up 2 more 22 oz. bottles at $8.99 a pop.
I drink one a weekend. Friday night if I've had a bad week, Saturday if I'm chilling and grilling in the late afternoon, or Sunday if I haven't had one yet during the weekend.
I think it's the best beer I ever drank. Even though I've got 8 or 10 in my beer cellar, I'm already starting to freak out a little bit when I think what it's going to be like when they're gone and I have to wait another year to get them again.

Starting to think a mid-Atlantic cornhole at Dogfish (preferably in the off-season) could be a very good idea.

No, you want your imperial stouts warm(ish).A snifter provides maximum surface area with your palm so the body heat warms the beverage. The shape also allows for the aroma to be presented properly to your palate. Awesome. They've got to be one of the most under rated breweries out there. Very much looking forward to trying the rest of their beers, especially this one.A rich brown ale inspired by the enigmatic monastic brews of Belgium, and the mysterious mist shrouded jungles of the tropics. Brewed with real cacao, and spiced with cinnamon and sweet orange peel for a sensual delight. A brew to be sipped, savored, and enjoyed!Skylord, package arrived safe and sound![]()
