It's a coffee and chocolate loaded masterpiece of a stout. Maybe not quite your thing, but it's one of those beers that anyone that likes good beers should have. It's my go to on Sunday for football. One of the rare beers that is easily accessible and completely perfect.I think I had the reg Breakfast stout years ago but I'm not 100%..IIRC it was good.
An above average black ipa. A little too bitter with the after taste.ditka311 said:What did you think of Dark Penance?bshell27 said:Founders dark penance

Pretty sure this or Pure Hop are on the docket for today. Pretty excited about the Alpine beers.Sebowski said:Nelson
Yeah, that was my thought too. They state 100 IBUS on the label which is high for a black IPA. I didn't not like it though. An above average black ipa. A little too bitter with the after taste.ditka311 said:What did you think of Dark Penance?bshell27 said:Founders dark penance

And if you see 18th Street Deal With The Devil, try it...although I don't think they bottle it, it might be rotating at the brewery only.ditka311 said:18th Street makes a good jade hopped beer. Also found a place in Charlotte that has Foothills Jade IPA and Wicked Weed Freak of Nature DIPA in growlers.
On top of the NoDa and Westbrook beers I'm looking to get, this trip is gonna be very Beery.
Even though I have plenty of beer, had to pick up some zombie dust, alpha king and what seems to be new around these parts ...Maine Brewing Another One Ipa. I have seen a few other Maine but not this one, Lunch or Dinner.
Well...the cellared Miller Lite really shined through in this one. Clear golden color so you can tell the whirlfloc really cleans this one up. And the triple hops....kidding.Wingnut said:Waiting to hear how Ditkas Heady - Pliny showdown went...
This would be awesome. Haven't had CBS but am a big fan of the regular Breakfast Stout.Ilov80s said:The other day I met a guy from Grand Rapids that was big on the beer scene there. He said a few months ago Founders did an unpublicized barrel aged event that featured a few maple barrel aged beers. They wouldn't use the CBS name, but he was pretty confident it was a test run for a new CBS to be mass released in the next year or so. I have heard this rumor so I am optimistic. That will be the release of the year if it happens. CBS was one of the best beers I have ever had by a wide margin.
Yeah Breakfast Stout is very good, the other one that I love is Neapolitan Milk Stout from Saugatuck.Ilov80s said:It's a coffee and chocolate loaded masterpiece of a stout. 2013 KBS will disappoint. After having this year's breakfast stout I'm excited for 2015 kbs. 2014 Breakfast stout has a lot more coffee, chocolate and just a bigger flavor than last year. I found last year's to be thin and just more watered down. This would be awesome. Haven't had CBS but am a big fan of the regular Breakfast Stout. Haven't tried KBS yet but have one in the fridge.Ilov80s said:The other day I met a guy from Grand Rapids that was big on the beer scene there. Did you get the Heady through a trade on here? I would love to get a hold of one.Well...the cellared Miller Lite really shined through in this one. I split both of these with my brother who also appreciates good beer. I preferred Heady slightly over Pliny. So did he. Both are great beers but it's hard to call either the #1 or #6 best beer overall when there is so much greatness out there. Of course a lot of that is subjective.
Haven't had it yet. A lot of people describe strawberry flavor as too artificial. Get any of that?Yeah Breakfast Stout is very good, the other one that I love is Neapolitan Milk Stout from Saugatuck.Ilov80s said:It's a coffee and chocolate loaded masterpiece of a stout. That's really my ultimate goal, trying a lot of different really good beer. Made a few trades through here, mostly to try local stuff we can't get here. Was lucky enough to run into Heady I guess. I find it easier to trade with people in here because they generally cut through the hysteria and just want to do the same I sought out to do...get stuff that's generally not available in their market and enjoy good beer.
I guess there is a little bit of hypocrisy in that I was looking for Pliny and Heady to some extent but what I learned is that some of the others you don't know about are as good as the highly hyped beers. For example I really liked Hop Drop, Crank,Jai Alai, and Huma Lupa. Boo Koo was outstanding as well. All different styles but I am glad I had a chance to try them and I think I enjoyed these more than the hyped up beers.
Sounds like a long night ahead...and a good one too.Tried a bunch of wicked weed beers...about 10 of them...got a growler of Freak of Nature DIPA to go...gonna have a Hop Drop or 3 before heading out for some kick ### BBQ @ Macs Speed Shop...
For real.Heading here tomorrow, I think Tampa needs a place like this:ditka311 said:Sounds like a long night ahead...and a good one too.Wingnut said:Tried a bunch of wicked weed beers...about 10 of them...got a growler of Freak of Nature DIPA to go...gonna have a Hop Drop or 3 before heading out for some kick ### BBQ @ Macs Speed Shop...
Is everything Growlers? Can you order single beers? This sounds very niceCherry Lager, a seasonal by Lakefront Brewery in WI, is fantastic. Sweet-tart cherry finish that's just perfect. Way better than SA Cherry Wheat imo.

Love that beer and wish I could get it locally.Felt like a daytime beer so I decided to try a Westbrook Gose.
This is maybe the 5th or 6th Gose I've tried. Super refreshing with a nice combo of salty and tart/sour. Beats out Rapp as my favorite Gose so far.
