What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (3 Viewers)

Be on the lookout for the new Sierra Nevada Rye IPA. This is supposed to be good, especially for those of us who like rye in our beer. :stalker:
Is this going to be a $10 wax dipped deal?
I think it's just replacing their spring seasonal, Glissade. So it should just be the same price as SNPA and Torpedo.I'm excited. I haven't had many rye beers, but I love Sierra Nevada and I love rye in my whiskey. Also heard SN is coming out with cans for SNPA and Torpedo. Great news.
Founders makes a great one ("Red's Rye"). I hadn't heard about this, definitely looking forward to it, especially if its priced like SNPA/Torpedo, etc.

I'll look for that. I don't think I've seen that around here. The only Founder's I've even had was the Centennial, which was great.

See I'm heading the opposite direction with Sierra Nevada lately. I'm a huge fan but the last 4 or 5 beers I've had by them have all had that same piney heavy hop flavor, kinda disappointed. Celebration, Northern Hemisphere, Estate Homegrown Ale, they all tasted the same to me. And I'm not a particular fan of the piney hop stuff.

If you see any Founders, get it. IMO,that is beer for beer, the best brewery out there.

Finished off a Southern Tier Choklate & Oliva, a saison collaboration between (of all breweries, Sierra Nevada & a monastery in Spain). The Choklate has become my most favorite beer of the season, the saison is ok, nothing special but certainly fresh & light.

I am in Chicago and checked out the local beer store for some brews I can't find in Mi. I got a 3 Floyds Dreadnaught, Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Stout, and Smuttynose Big A IP. I have never had any of them, how did I do?

Red's Rye is awesome. So is Hop Rod Rye from Bear Republic. Big fan of rye with my hops.

good
Any recommendation for tonight? Keep in mind I am 29 and a lifelong Lion fan, so tonight is one of the 5 biggest nights of my adult life.
Never had the Dreadnaught, but IMO the CW Bourbon Barrel Stout > Smuttynose Big A. Big A is good, that CW stout is great. I've only had it on tap, though.

Half Acre Marty Stouffer's Wild America barleywine
How is it? I scored one when it was released and still sitting on it.
 pretty good. I've had it since May 2011. Really sweet...label talks about hops, but I don't really taste any at this point. Not the best barleywine I've had, not the worst. I wouldn't go out of my way to find another bottle, but it's a nice sipper.

it's just okay. i had it fresh and it was just a nice solid barleywine with decent hops.

I'll just sit on it then and hope for the best.

Hoe does it compare to the Southern Tier Chokolat?
It doesn't. Was kinda let own with all the hype Moo Hoo gets around here. No real chocolate flavor to it, stout is light for being a stout. The Choklat on the other hand is chocolate syrup in a bottle with a kick. No real comparison between the two IMO.
Working on a six of some tasty Stone IPA. Really good but a little too balanced, kinda mellow. What's their Imperial version? Double Dry Hopped? Also picked up a six of Troegs HopBack Amber.

I have never tried Chokolat, how does it compare to Youngs Double Chocolate Stout?

Stone's DIPA is Ruination. That beer and then their 10th Anniversary got me hooked on hops. I don't really drink it any more, but I think that is more of a testament to what else is around these days then a knock on Ruination. I need to revisit it soon.

Oh yeah, that's right. It's been mentioned before a few times. I'll have to check that out. I used to think my place had a good selection until I really started to look into it and realized it's just ok. There's another place nearby that I've read online has a great selection. Once I've gone through this ones selection, I have to head to the new one.Where do you guys get your beer?

I've never had Youngs, Mexican standoff :kicksrock:

Rogue Dead Guy Ale

Nice, I like it. Kinda malty and sweet. I don't know anything about Maibocks so I looked it up. I've had Sierra Nevada Glissade and remember really liking it. I know Smuttynose and will give that a shot. What else?

HopSlam has been released! My experience told me last night to only have one.
How hard is this to find? I would love some...no Bells here.
Really difficult in the Chicago area (at least in my neck of the woods.) One of the bigger liquor stores around here (Binnys) had 45 cases and sold all of them between Wed and Friday. They also got one whole case of Double Trouble in. Of course that is gone. Founders Double Trouble GL Conway's Irish AleI get a lot of my beer from a local grocery store and they have Three Floyds Black Sun Stout. Anybody ever try this? Any good? I would imagine it would be considering it is 3F after all.

Glissade is a good one for domestic maibock, but I think Sierra Nevada unfortunately discontinued it in favor of their new Rye IPA. Dead Guy is one of my favorite beers, but I don't know why they call it a Maibock - actually, I think the label says its a "Maibock style beer", which is confusing because the name of the beer is "Dead Guy Ale" and they use their proprietary ale yeast - Pacman - to brew it. If you can get the maibock from Capital Brewery in Madison, WI, that's an excellent beer and may be one of the best you can find outside of Germany. If you really like the Dead Guy, a somewhat bigger, maltier brown ale that is one of my favorites is the WTF from Lagunitas.
