What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (1 Viewer)

Hopslam and 2012 Big Foot were both on the shelves at my local beer store tonight. With the three big winter releases from Central Waters - BB Stout, Peruvian Morning and BB Barleywine - its a good time to be stocking the cellar in Wisconsin. New Glarus also just put out a barleywine as a special "thumbprint series" release. I'm drinking homebrew tonight - my house amber ale.

A lot of talk about Lagunitas. I'm lucky to live close to the brewery. If you ever get the chance take the free tour. They are very generous with the tasting.

My brother just did this about a month or two ago, and said that the people there were very nice and generous. He had a great experience and is trying to get me up there. Just need to find the time. :(

Had the Founders Pale Ale last week and really liked it. They seem to have the full Founders line there. Which one should I try next?

If you like hops, the Centennial Ale is there top IPA and is excellent. Dirty Bast... is also excellent. If you can get Double Trouble (DIPA) or Breakfast Stout, grab it because they are seasonal.

Thx! Will report back.I've yet to start venturing into stouts as I've been having too much fun discovering different IPA's

Founders have a lot of good beer but they are famous for their stouts. if you were to get into stouts that is a good brewery to start with.

So I got the Centennial Ale and he also talked me into what he said was his last bottle of Curmudgeon's Better Half. I think I'm going to hold onto it and bring it to my fantasy baseball draft in a few weeks, unless I have company before then. Should I keep it in the fridge or leave it out?

Good score on the Curmudgeon's Better Half. I have had their regular Crumudgeon Ale, but the better half is new. It was just released Monday for the first time, I might have to hit the beer store and check it out. It doesn't really matter if you put it in the fridge or leave it out. When you drink it, it should be between room temp and the fridge temp.

I'd actually just like to split it with my wife. I'm having a tough time getting her into these brews, especially the IPA's because of the "perfumey" smell (as she puts it). What's this one going to be like?

Good to know, thx. I guess it's kinda like I do with the wine. 20 minutes in (red) 20 minutes out (white)

and they also didn't have the selection of Founders that I thought they did. The labels are hard to tell apart at a quick glance. Centennial was the only one that ilov80s listed.

It's odd, but moving to the PNW has actually decreased my appreciation of IPAs. That used to be my favorite style of beer, bar-none, then I move up here where every other beer is punch you in the tongue with hops and suddenly I find that my palate has steered away from IPAs altogether.

Trying to find more of Sam Adams Chocolate Bock. Came in a variety pack, damned tasty, but can't find just by itself. Any suggestions?

At the moment it seems I'm craving hefeweizen's and whites - which is really weird because that was always way down my list. I'm not sure what drove the change in my palate.

Wow, that's funny. I just thought it would have been to more darker brews.

FWIW, Founders Breakfast Stout is probably a top 5 beer that I've ever had.

I think it's even better than KBS, which I know many folks would consider blasphemy.

Also, I've been drinking Flying Bison Aviator Red and I'll be moving into either Long Trail Triple Bag or Great Lakes Blackout next. Not sure what I'm in the mood for. I have to say that despite the extremely limited distribution, Flying Bison makes one hell of a lineup. If you ever see it, I recommend it all....though I doubt you'd see it outside of upstate NY.

It will be very different and certainly won't have the grapefruit/floral smell that IPAs have. Taste should be more malty, hints of caramel, toffee, vanilla.

So I had a six of Smuttynose Shoals Pale Ale. But it's only 10 oclock! Crack open the Better Half. It's amazing. I don't even know how to describe it. What is it? It's not beer.

it's an Old Ale. which is really wading in to the deep end if you are just getting started on drinking craft beer.great choice though.. style-wise.. i've not had the Better Half yet but Bell's makes a great Old Ale (Third Coast Old Ale).North Coast Old Stock and Harviestoun Ola Dubh are two others i've had that are fantastic.

Molson/Coors is coming out with an Iced Tea flavored beer. But, they aren't going to be available in the U.S. immediately:

"Coors Light Iced Tea will go on sale first in Canada, where consumers are interested in flavored beers and other such drinks, Molson executives said."
Canadians and flavored drinks.I'm going to try to hit up a Pliny the Younger tapping in Pasadena this Saturday. If anyone in L.A. is interested, check out Lucky Baldwin's Old Town this Saturday. I really hope I can get there.
