What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (3 Viewers)

Evil Twin Brewing's Imperial Biscotti Break. A heavy hitting imperial stout which is as dark as motor oil, but a lighter mouthfeel than some of those southern tier, or alesmith brews.

Avery Thensaurum Rum Barrel-Aged Sour Ale (10.9% ABV) - This is one of my favorite sours of all-time. It's an awesome combination of tart sour apple and citric flavors, sweet caramel malts, and oak and rum notes.

King Cobra. Again. :kicksrock:

This stuff is like hard drugs.
You gotta quit that ####, yo. Go straight. Pick up a local IPA, and just enjoy the simple things in life.
I dunno man. This #### got me on a run. IPA is like wearing Vans at the local bar, talkin' Homme vs. Garcia. Desert Rock my ###. I have to forget everything Tony Williams taught me about playing the ride cymbal because of Dave Grohl playing that crap. At least Bjork can play some Meters type stuff.

Sounds like you need to switch to whiskey.

Just put down a Momi Hiwa. I traded for this thing about two minths ago. was so excited to get it I swore I'd drink it right out of the box. Then I didn't.... Kept waiting to share it. I was thirsty tonight so decided it was time. I remembered it was strong so thought to myself "if it is 15% or under, I'll take it down" Grabbed a glass and the bottle, 17.09%. "#### it". Drank the #####. Wow. Sweet. Strong. Delicious. First quarter of the glass I thought I bit off more than I could chew. Second half of the glass I was wishing it was a bigger bottle. It didin't have nearly as much coconut as I had hoped, but it was still tasty so I didn't hold that against it.

drummer, take note, you can still get sloshed off good beer. In fact, the goodest beers are often stringer than those cheap 40s. Have your cake and eat it too. You deserve it.

Yeah man, but I only stick to two Cobras a session. It's a totally distinct buzz than grabbing a couple of Fuller's and a pint of Jack. Jameson? I just wind up in a hotel with a couple of booty girls knowing I'll be 1000+ dollas lighter by kickoff on Sunday.

Now I wish I had some Jameson. It makes up for bad decisions.

 Glad you enjoyed the Momi Hiwa.

I have an Avery Rumpkin rum barrel-aged pumpkin ale (18.5% ABV) that I am going to drink tonight.

Avery really pushes it to the ABV limit with some of those huge beers.

picked up some:

dofishhead black and blue

ommegang three philosophers

leffe brun

erdinger dunkel weissen

and paulaner oktoberfest

Rumpkin is awesome.
I'm drinking the Avery Rumpkin rum barrel-aged pumpkin ale (18.5% ABV) now. It is a crazy awesome beer. I haven't been overly impressed with too many pumpkin ales, but this was my favorite I've ever had by far. It has intense flavors of pumpkin, brown sugar, dark rum, cinnamon, nutmeg, molasses, oakey vanilla, and maple syrup. Like many of Avery's super high ABV beers, it is extremely sweet (as can be expected from beers of that ABV), but Rumpkin's sweetness is balanced somewhat by the spiciness of the cinnamon and nutmeg flavors. It makes me think of a vanilla icing-glazed brown sugar pumpkin rum spice cake, which I've never heard of before and have never had, but am now craving after drinking this Rumpkin.

Local bar now has Green Flash West Coast, first time I have ever seen it in Michigan, this is a great addition. I love it.

Had a 2L growler of Pizza Port Kook IPA. 8% ABV. Got me real toasty, even after I poured some out for my homie Todd Andrews.

Great American Beer Festival week in Denver is a great time for beer drinking. There are tons of events going on all over town. I am going to GABF tomorrow night.

Just had the the Bruery Tart of Darkness sour wild stout and Russian River Damnation Belgian strong pale ale on tap.

They know what they're doing. If you get a chance to get your hands in their Palate Wrecker, make sure you try it.
I got a 4 pack of that last time I was in Chicago...great stuff. They also have Hop Head Red on tap, but I remember thinking it wasn't as good as WC.

Anyone else attending the Great American Beer Festival tomorrow, Friday, or Saturday?

See you there!
Two posts up....

The Great American Beer Fesitval was pretty awesome last night. For those of you that have never been, you should put it on your list of things to do before you die. It's a hell of an experience. This year, I made a game plan to get my hands on as many rare barrel-aged imperial stouts and barrel-aged sours as possible. Here are some of the beers/breweries that stood out to me:

Weasel Boy Bourbon Barrel-Aged Anastasia Russian Imperial Stout - This beer from Weasel Boy Brewing Company (Zanesville, OH) was one of my favorites of the night. Their regular Anastasia Russian Imperial Stout won a GABF gold medal last year, and this year they aged it in Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels. Awesome stuff.

Goose Island Bourbon County Coffee Stout - This is a Top 5 BeerAdvocate beer that I've been chasing for the past couple years. Goose Island poured about 5 or 6 pitchers of it at a special limited tapping during the festival. It was pretty fantastic. Big bourbon, coffee, chocolate, and vanilla flavors. I thought it was insanely smooth and drinkable for an imperial stout, and I didn't even realize it was a full 14.0% ABV until just now. It lived up to the hype in my opinion.

DESTIHL - This brewery from Bloomington, IL released a bunch of barrel-aged sour ales that had been aging since 2011. Every beer I had from them was fantastic. They were one of my favorite brewery discoveries of the evening.

Some of my other favorite beers from the night:

Russian River Propitiation sour porter aged for 12 months in wine barrels

Deschutes Dissident sour brown ale aged for 18 months in pinot and cabernet barrels

Bell's Black Note bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout

Firestone Walker Parabola bourbon barrel-aged Russian imperial stout

Some of my other favorite breweries from the night not mentioned above:

Avery (Boulder, CO)

The Bruery (Placentia, CA)

Three Floyds (Munster, IN)

Lakefront Brewery (Milwaukee, WI)

Wicked Weed (Asheville, NC)

Barley Brown's Brewery (Baker City, OR)

Troegs (Hershey, PA)

Fat Heads Brewery (Middleburg Heights, OH)

Stone (Escondido, CA)

Cigar City (Tampa, FL)

The Coolcumber is pretty nice. Also like their Freak Double IPA. That's my Island this year.

Tomorrow morning's breakfast is the ####y Budda's Maple Bacon Coffee Porter.

Cigar City is one of our end caps and they are remarkable.

You have good taste, my friend.

Just curious, from Lakefront do you remember what you drank? I enjoy their stuff as well.

I had Lakefront's brandy barrel-aged imperial pumpkin lager, which I thought was pretty nice and a very interesting take on a pumpkin beer. I also had two beers from their My Turn Series, in which each employee of Lakefront brews their own namesake beer. I had the Chad barleywine and the Chris maple vanilla dopplebock. I preferred the Chad, but thought they were both interesting beers.

I tend to like breweries that have small pilot programs that encourage creativity and innovation amongst their employees. I imagine it would be pretty fun to work at a brewery like that where the employees are all anticipating each other's beer release parties and constantly competing to outdo each other.

Lagunitas Day Time Ale IPA. Absolutely loving this beer right now.

Up a bit someone commented on DESTIHL, my parents live in Bloomington-Normal. Destihl is a great brewery. Glad they are getting repped elsewhere.
