What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

Also, had a beer this week from my second favorite local brewery, place has been open for a year or so now, making above-average beers for sure. Rye IPA. Sounds great, right? Pure ####### butter. Like drinking a melted stick of butter. It was pretty gross and I was really disappointed. I'm not sure if it was ringwood yeast or what, but I really hope it doesn't become a frequent occurrence with their beers.

Damn. I'm super sensitive to that. Do you get Peekskill stuff, or are they brewpub only?

Victory Mad King. It caught my eye with (what seems to be) a GoT allusion.

Eta or a historical reference to a German king...either way, Classic Weiss style beer.

Yakima Glory, wife bought it remembering she liked it. Bottles say drink by Dec 2011. Yeah, I'm going to go there and get her money back. That's some BS.

Found a 2006 Sierra Nevada Bigfoot....a little sacred to open it.

Do not open that. You are in danger. Send it to me for proper disposal.
Right, if it was stored properly, it's a gem.
It was in a box in a closet for most of the time, around 70 degrees...and in a fridge for the last year maybe...far from optimal conditions, but away from light at least...gonna crack it next weekend and see how it has held up.Eta: was just told its been in a fridge for the last 6 months. Boxed in a closet before that. She has a few more bottles from that box, maybe some wild fermented ale or a Belgian from Saint Somewhere, still in the box...gonna go see what they are this week. Interesting.

Santa Few Brewing Co Imperial Java Stout..... In a can. Not bad but a little bland after drinking every barrel aged stout I could get my hands on a few weeks ago.

What types of beer age the best? I'd imagine there are some you want to stay away from and others that only get better over time.

ETA: These Java's are 8%, sneaks up on you. Might be over in the drunk thread if I kill this 6 pack (of cans).

I was joking. You are in luck. That net will be fantastic. You should go buy a fresh one and drink it side by side. Fun stuff.

She? Sounds like a keeper. Maybe next time you could get a pic of her and the bottle ;)

Generally you want to age (1) higher alcohol beers that aren't (2) very hoppy.

Barleywines, wheat wines, big stouts, sours*.....stuff like that.

* kinda the exception to the higher ABV rule.

Vacationing with my family and 2 other families. Wednesday night had 2 growlers of Bodega Head IPA by Third St Aleworks. Thursday night was Brew Free IPA (21st Amendment), Little Sumpin Sumpin, and finished off the Bodega Head. Friday night was a growler of Pliny the Elder, and a Lagunitas Maximus.

Left vacation, came home, unpacked the car, dropped the kids off at grandma's, then headed to CA Beer Fest (Marin). Here's what I tasted:

Stone Porter with Chipotle

Stone Saison

Pizza Orgasmica IPA

Lagunitas Hop Stoopid

Bear Republic Cafe Racer 15 (x 5)

Altamount IPA

Firestone Pivo

Firestone IPA (don't know exact one)

Lagunitas Little Sumpin Extra (x3)

Ninkasi Oatis (x 3)

Lagunitas Little Sumpin Sumpin

Great few days of drinking. I may need to take a couple of days off.

The Firestone Double Jack IPA is outstanding

Stone Collective Distortion

It was just okay IMO.

Then Bear Republic Racer 5 and Bells Oberon. Both great, as always.

I'm out in Moab, Utah for the weekend, and I've been drinking a lot of Squatters Hop Rising double IPA from Salt Lake City. I've been enjoying it. It has a really nice fresh, citrus/grapefruit hop flavor and very smooth for 9% ABV. Also been drinking some Oskar Blues Ten Fidy imperial stout that I brought from Denver. That stuff is great. Great dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, and roasted malt flavor with a velvety smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Also an imperial stout from Epic Brewing in Salt Lake City, but was not particularly impressed. It alright, but overall forgettable. ETA- It's unbelievable out here in Utah going to restaurants where every beer on draft is 3.5% ABV. Thankfully, places have had higher ABV beers in bottles. I refuse to pay for a 3.5% ABV beer. Might as well be drinking O'Doul's.
Had this while out and about tonight, great stuff.

I have a bottle of Howe Sound Pot Hole Filler that was given to me. I have never had any Howe Sound so for those that have drank their beers, talk to me about them

Just picked up a growlers of Margarita Gose and Tocobago Red from Cigar City for tomorrow. They had 3 special growler beers on today - the Gose, a DIPA and an Oatmeal Cream Porter that clocks in at almost 11% ABV. They ran out of the DIPA before I got there, and its too damn hot for a high ABV porter.

Flight at Cigar City:

Hoppier than Helles lager

Tangerine Florida Weiss

Cask IPA dry hopped w/Citra and Chinook

Cask Red Ale dry hopped w/Amarillo and Centennial

God I love cask conditioned ales.
