What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (1 Viewer)

Victory Ten Years Alt
Never heard of it. Any good?
 BTW, struck out so far on the St. George Winter Stout. Not looking good.

Having the Weyerbacher Double Simcoe I picked up yesterday. Piney/citrusy smell. Hoppy, hoppy, hoppy. Crazy bitter, but with enough malt backbone to not make your face pucker. Gonna let it warm up some to see if it mellows a little.

Hit the brewpub (Evans Pump Station) to toast the life and sad demise of another local brewpub (Malt River). Kickass Brown (awesomely hoppy/malty as always), followed by an Old Musty barleywine (soooo smooth, huge depth of flavors), hefeweiss (brewer threw in a little rauchmalt -nicely done) and a Belgian Pale Ale (think DeKoninck). The Wit is coming on next week, so i know what one of my summer beers is.

Three Floyds Alpha King. Good beer but the ratings are thru the roof

Has anyone ever seen the Alpha Kong? 15% Belgian strong ale from Three Floyds...wow.

I think that most people like the nice balance of hops and malt in Alpha King. I think it is very good beer, but not through the roof good.

4.23 rating good? I gave it a 3.45I think in situations like this, the name Three Floyds tacks on extra points. Last night I had the Robert the Bruce and expected a lot from the ratings and tonight it was the Alpha King. I haven't had enough Three Floyds to buy into the hype just yet.

No, it isn't 4.23 good. Maybe 3.8 for me.

I felt the same way about Alesmith. Good beer, but not deserving the their rating.

Which one? Or all of them?I really like Speedway and Grand Cru, like a lot. The Wee Heavy is damn good too. The IPA is good but not the best in the world IMO.

As for Three Floyds, I think I've only had three so far. The Dreadnaught was absolutely supurb but the Alpha King and R the B was so so.

The first beer I ever had, that was not bud light, coors light, michelob, etc.... was Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. I had it while on vacation about 15 years ago in NoCal. Loved it.

I have not had any the last few years, since I have been trying all sorts of new stuff. (although I did try celebration ale).

I just bought a case, and had some last night, and want to ask the experts something.

Has Sierra Nevada become a lot hoppier over the years? Or, is my tastes changing?

What say you?

Alesmith's Yulesmith, IMO, was good but not great - nowhere near deserving of its ranking at BA. The Three Floyds Alpha King wasnt overly impressive either.Alesmith IPA and 3F Dreadnaught are both fantastic and every bit worthy of their ratings.

Alpha King is good but not great, but then it's been years since I had any. Always thought it was a bit too piney - yet that same pineyness kicks butt in Alpha Klaus. I've had one Dreadnaught and still remember it - first DIPA I ever had and didn't know what the hell to think of it at the time. Great brew.

I thought the Alesmith IPA was good as well, but I guess I was expecting more. I think Stone IPA and Bear Republic are both better. I also thought the Grand Cru was just decent. The Speedway, is huge. I wasn't fully prepared that that badboy, but I can see how it gets rated so highly.I agree about the Dreadnaught. One of the best around. Alpha King was good too (I think I rated it a 4.0). Those are the only Three Floyds beers I have tasted.

I don't get the Yulesmith lovefest either.

Fro, did you get the package yet??? If so, was all intact??
Have not received it. I see that it has been dropped of at my work shipping dept. What name did you send it to. I have my shipping address as my work address so if it said Fullback Fro on the box they are not going to know who it goes to.

Ballast Point Big Eye IPA thanks to trade with Skylord.

Good IPA. Nothing earth shattering though. Very easy drinker.
Its too bad they don't bottle their silver medal DIPA. Hopefully soon.

Stone Arrogant *******.

Hey Skylord, did you try the Goose Island Imperial IPA yet?  Wondering what you thought.
I tried the AB for the first time two weeks ago at Brewfest, man it was strong.
You've got a long way to go, rook. AB is strong, but there are a lot bigger beers out there than it. Ask Skylord. His favorite beers will strip paint.J/K Skylord. Well, not really. :D

If AB is that big, maybe you should stick to the Big City Ice. ;)
