What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (4 Viewers)

Besides chatting with friends, the only thing that got me through the Sox douching tonight: Cadillac Mountain Stout. It was pretty tasty but a disappointment after reading that it was the top competitor to the Allagash brews here in Maine.

I sampled some Allagash last week and tried this tonight. All these beers taste very rich, but almost too rich. I'm just wondering if I should be starting lower on the food chain so to speak. I'm only 21 so if I come off as not appreciating these complex beers, that's why. I guess drinking real beer has come as sort of a shock after drinking watery domestics for so long.

I'm hoping to hit up the D.L. Geary's and Casco Bay breweries this week.
Four words:CASCO BAY RIPTIDE RED.

You'll thank me later. :banned:
Good stuff here...had me a couple bottles tonight. still got a long way to go in tasting all the local brews

:goodposting: Drinking a Lagunitas #10 Saison. Nice beer. I would review it on BA, but I'm too hammered to attempt it.
 I've never seen this beer! Good?

Edited to say I've had the #10, didn't know if it was a saison
According to BA it is. It smelled like a Saison, but didn't tast like it. The taste and body reminded me of a Hefe. Still, it was pretty good.

keeping a list of what I've tried (I'm anal like that) since I started broadening my horizons around 3-4 months ago or so and was just adding tonight's to it. Here's the list including style (from BA. so I can see a pattern) and if I liked, disliked or thought it as just "ok":

16. Rogue Dead Guy Ale (Maibock / Helles bock) - ok

18. Rogue Shakespeare Stout (American Stout) - ok

74. Arrogant ******* Ale (American Strong Ale) – disliked
Really?By the way, good call on the Pilsner Urquell. I'd rather drink Bud.
Arrogant ******* - definitely. I (at least at this point) just do not like the seriously hoppy taste.Dead Guy - one of the very first I tried. Going to pick some more up soon to try again now that I've had a few others. I think I'll like it more.

Shakespeare Stout - just not to my liking.

Hopefully someday I'll get to where I enjoy the hops more. That way my choices will more than double.
Don't give up on hoppy beers. Arrogant ******* is a tough start for an into into hops.

Excellent. Just saw them at the local grocer (they tend to have the seasonal Lagunitas) so I'll have to pick up a couple tomorrow.

You'll like it. It is an enjoyable brew. Not really deep, but deep enough where you take a few sips and think about it a bit.

made a post today on the belfast bay thing at BA forums under the appropriate regional section and get this response from some guy named venom:

Instead of airing this...did you e-mail Todd, Jason and/or the BeerFly guide for Maine?"

Venom thinks you are calling out BA. He's the resident hero over there...

yeah, this is what I said:

Still confused here. If Belfast Bay had a working brewery just two years ago and Shipyard brews McGovern's and the Lobster Ale then WHAT did Belfast Bay produce? Feather City Kolsch and Mack Point IPA?

Aaaand if Shipyard was actually the one brewing McGovern's and the Lobster Ale this whole time, then why did those beers get retired when Belfast Bay shut down its brewery?

FWIW, I spoke with the new owner of the establishment briefly on the phone today and he says the brewery will be re-opened in the next few weeks.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

I was trying to approach it more from the investigative angle but I guess it didn't come off that way.

Every board has homers. He's the biggest one. Whatever. This thread gets more replies than all the BA threads combined.

Yes, a good beer should stand up to that.

Beer Run!

The list:

(2) Three Flyods Dreadnaught

(1) Breckenridge 471 IPA

(3) Two Brothers Hop Juice

(1) Bear Republic Racer 5 (wanted to try this)

(4) 4-pack Goose Island Imperial

(2) DFH 120 minute

(1) 4-pack DFH 90 minute

(1) 6-pack DFH 60 minute

(1) 6-pack SN Bigfoot

(1) 6-pack Victory Hop Devil

I plan to try cellering a few of these just to see how they change. Probably put away one of the 120 minute, 2 GI Implerial, at least 2 SN Bigfoot. Have not had Dreadnaught before, so wanted that. The Breckenridge was pointed to me by a friend, so will report on that. Hop Juice is a staple food item in my house. And have wanted to try the Racer 5 for a while. Only got one just in case I don't like it.....

ETA: Added the Hop Devil. Have wanted to try that too...

Nice pick up, NG. I don't think you'll have to worry about not liking Racer 5. It's on BA's top 100 list for a reason. Very good IPA.

Obviously you're right. I picked that up at the start of the Run, so I only nabbed one. It all started out because I wanted to get some GI Imperial. Then I added one Racer 5. Then this. Then that. Then I saw the Bigfoot. Then......Well, you get the picture. Good thing for me is that the 180+ bottles of beer (on the wall?) that I now have will get whittled down. A buddy has his belated wedding reception at his family's lake house later this month. I volunteered to bring the beer. I suspect they will like my selections.

Hi buddy.
Brown-noser.
When can you be here tonight? And bring something for the grill. Also might want to bring a jacket, it's kinda chilly here now (58') and should get a bit nippy tonight. One final note - no cuddling between us. Furley's not gonna be here after all. And if he is, you can bet yer baloney he'll be nekked. And we'll all be running away. After securing the beer in the safe in the basement of course. I'll be damned if I let that guy's hideous nekked body keep me from securing the beer. Some things you just gotta work through.

True. But with which on of us?

I just picked up some more beer which can not be mentioned as I may be stashing it for BIF II. My wife finally went into the basement last night. Asked, what are you going to do with all that beer? Um, drink it.

So hard to find a good woman that will understand what beer is for. You are lucky. I think I'll have to agree to have a second child in order to justify my latest beer buys. It's a sacrifice, but one I am willing to make. Wish me luck.ETA: I shoudl add that my wife also understands the "point" of beer, and almost never says anythign about the beers I buy and stash.

She didn't complain at all, just one of those "do you realize how much beer you have?"

My wife says that too. Followed by  . Not sure how I am going to own up to the Beer Run I had today. But given the magnitude of the haul, maybe I can just admit it. I mean seriously, who the heck would doubt the validity of THAT list of beer? Even someone who has no clue. It's just that obvious.Alright, so maybe that last part is only wishful thinking. But still.......c'mon! That's a huge list. I was happy as hell when the Binny's by me had that stuff. Had to use the last gift card. But that's OK. Maybe I'll lead off with the gift card part.

GB the Binny's frequent customer card, or whatever they call it.

I should add that I just finished a GI Imperial from the "Beer Run Class of June 10, 2006.".

ETA: I will also add that I won't be putting any GI Imperial in any shipments for BOTMC or BIF. Mostly because the ones I was "forced" to buy today were all in the cooler, so they can't really ship.

I was seriosuly bummed when they told me that they were out of GI Imperial today. The manager said "I actually think we have some in the cooler." Happy dance ensued. The woman helping get them said, we have four of them (4-packs). I said, "I'll take them." She ssaid, "Yeah but how many?" Me:  "All of them." She:  "OK." At $18 a 4-pack these are 'spensive. But we'll just leave that out of the discussion.

However, can't ship them. Darn. OK, secretly I am happy that I get to keep them. But I won't admit that. Not even in a court of law.

No kidding. Between that and Sam's frequent buyer card, I should be in the Hall of Fame soon.

HIDEOUS?HAVE YOU SEEN MY PROFILE?????????

just polished a Stone IPA acquired via trade with FatMax

let me say that i just burped and it brought back memories of my 18th birthday when i passed out on my friends garage floor after drinking straight Tanqueray gin.

not so sure that's a good thing

rated it at BA as a 3.5... hair on the bitter side for me. sure wouldn't say no to it if i was offered a bottle but not my favorite.
