Just poured a Smoked Porter

damn that's good

That is a kickass beer. I'm just having a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.
Just bought the vertical epic 'blindly'Didn't realize it ages for 10 yrs...

No way can I commit to that. Gave it to an older aficionado at work

http://www.stonebrew.com/epic/
I understand. I've bought some stuff that was supposed to be cellared before, but ended up drinking it at the end of a bender when there wasn't anything else left in the house.
I've got a case of 22's for every year thus far released. Really not sure where I am going to find the space to keep it all....but I'll take my chances.
Is this still the case Skylord? If so you are sitting on a lot of money there. I have seen 020202 sell for as much as $400/bottle.

Some people are stupid. Actually, I think that one was for charity.

While $400 is extreme, I would guess he gets a hefty price if he sells any.

See my first sentence. :D

Beers I had this weekend:

Sierra Nevada Stout

Sierra Nevada Porter (a grassroots environmentalist from the Sierra Club seeking donations and sigs came over to the apartment yesterday and I introduced her to my roommates as someone from the Sierra Nevada Club; I felt like an idiot. Also, I later proclaimed that Chicken Marsala was an indian dish while dining out with friends. Un Idioto Doublay)

*preferred the Porter but both were excellent.

Boddingtons

Newcastle (both of which were quite disappointing as my only beer hobby friends both gave that one thumbs up; note: their palates aren't that much more experienced than my own)

Harpoon Munich Dark (decent enough)

Newcastle is horse piss. I had one at a friend's house a couple of months ago and couldn't believe that I actually used to like it.

Just mowed the lawn, so now I am having a lawnmower beer. Well, a Saison Dupont is the lightest thing I have in the fridge.
I know the feeling. I just scanned my fridge looking to possibly have a lighter beer. I have Stone IRS, Stone IPA, Lagunitas #10, Soudt's DIPA, and a Russian River Damnation. I opted for a pepsi, for now.

I might actually only have six bottles of the 02, but a case of everything else. I might just trim out the rest of the beers to only six as well to save space.

I could always help you save space ;)

Found a pale ale to drink. Much too hot for stouts or barleywines right now.New River Pale ale (actually Dominion) courtesy of 3C's

Let me know what you think. I have not been quite as impressed with the beer in bottles, but I have had it on tap and thought it was a great rendition of an American Pale Ale. Sad story behind this beer too, as the original brewer died at the age of 32 not long after they started distrubuting the beer. His business partner has kept the beer alive.

It wasn't bad. Pretty decent for a pale ale. Not a huge pale ale fan, but it wasn't bad.

Saw my dad over the weekend, he was telling me about a fairly new brewery in Asheville called the French Broad. Any good?

They are okay. They brew a decent lambic actually, but it doens't hold up against its Belgian counterparts. They also have a decent Scottish Wee Heavy ale. I've met the brewer who can be a bit standoffish. My favorite beer of theirs is the Marzen that they brew every year for Octoberfest. The one thing I have given them credit for is that they brew a few different styles that you don't normally see brewbups or local breweries do. For our size town, we actually have quite a few local breweries, and it is always nice to support your local beer makers. But I haven't had any 'worldclass' beers from the locals, although I really like the Seeing Double IPA that is out of Winston-Salem.

Just finished up with the Hopsickle. Friggin' bitter beer. Next up is the Green Flash 2nd Anniversary ale (2004). #4530/6000

And its review #150 :)

I'm boring.

I'm drinking my #1 beer.

Budweiser.

I think I'm in the wrong thread.

(where's that "backing up real slowly" smilie)

From what I read, Sam Adams Light is the best of the American Macros. I'm wondering if that beer might be a stepping stone for inexperienced palates to start trying new beer. You put Sam Adams Light in front of them and say 'try this', they say 'yum', and you now have a open ticket to get them to try a few more things....

:hey:
No kidding.Skylord,

If you do decide to trim the supply of whatever you have, please let us know. I know I certainly would love to pay fair market value for at least a couple of those, maybe more. I have the room and ambition to cellar those too. So please remember that if you ever do it.

Thanks.

I know math ain't your strong suit academically, Furley. But surely even you can see the fact that the guy has a case of each, and wants to trim down to 6 of them. That leaves plenty for most of the people who want any. If nothing else, then we get one each. That's fine by me....

you are talking to a 10-year vet of the GABF.I have gone from the extreme of loving all different types of beers to only enjoying budweiser (and the occasional fat tire, odell's 90 shilling, anchor steam, or guiness), and, instead, loving my small batch Bourbon.

tonight's bounty from Trader Joe's:

Sam Smith's Nut Brown

Mixed 6 pack o Smuttynose finest kind IPA, Anchor Steam, and some Liberty Ale for my roomie to try

Going to pick up the Dead Guy Ale (anyone had it?) and one of the Chimays later this week. I'll be popping my Chimay cherry.

Eagle's (something or other) will allow your local liquor store to select their barrels of bourbon before they are aged and then sell them as your liquor store's provate selection - it is a very tasty bourbon regardless, and affordable - 20 bucks or so for a 750 ML.

edit - I think it is Eagle's Ridge
