What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (4 Viewers)

Stone Imperial Russian Stout...tonight is relative, it's only 5:30...but I'm also drinking it in my Sudwerk pint glass from BIF 1!
Hi Tip Top.... :bye:
We only share vices; not identities. Trust me.
Actually, I should clarify, we share some vices.
"Miami" vices?
He's the Tubbs to my Crockett.
Someone wanna translate this? Because if you read that really quickly, then it comes out as something I think you can get arrested for in Alabama.
Like that list of things you can get arrested for in Alabama is a short list :duelingbanjos:
That's Louisiana yer thinkin' of, son.

Stuck at work. Should have been gone hours ago. "Oh, let me do this one last thing before I leave." All hell has broken loose. Beer is going to be so f'n good when I get out of here. I might even stop at 7-11 and pick up a High Life.
Nuthin' wrong with a good case or so of High Life. That's my weekend beer when I go up to my friend's house in MI. My first beer love was the girl in the moon on the can.
Dude, that's Fredrick Miller's daughter, you sicko! Reported to JB!

So you can set me up on a date then? :)

This day is taking forever.
I hear that. Shipping and receiving hasn't called me yet about my leaky beer package yet. Even though it says it was delivered, I'm nervous to go down there. :bag:
Do it!ETA:

You could always go down there to pick it up "for my friend". Use the name Carlton Whitfield. They'll never suspect a thing. Seriously.

I have no clue what I will follow up my Pride & Joy with right now. Have to go see what's down there...

Just drank a Smuttynose Robust Porter, courtesy of Tip Top. Very good American Porter. All the roasted qualities that porters are known for, with a bit more coffee kick. Mikey likes it.

The Masala is on ice, biotches.

Sounds like a good night in store.

Well, I returned to my new favorite liquor store and bought more beer that I don't really need. But how can I turn down a place that still has 2004 Old Stock Ale and tons of other goodies.

Yep, but I do have to work tomorrow. Then Sunday I have to make a bit of a road trip. I've got a busy weekend ahead of me.As a side note, I just checkout out my reviews on BA. Out of 120 total reviews, 44 are either American IPA or American Double IPA. It isn't hard to tell what I like.

drank a New Holland Oak Barrel Aged Dragon's Milk

weird beer. smells great, looks good, tastes a little off. pretty sharp flavors. too foamy. wound up getting a 3.8 but the mouthfeel and drinkability were both 3's.

I'm getting me a mug this evening boys. Mark my words.

Edited, because someone I managed to #### up one of the eleven words I typed.

That's only a couple reviews, I don't think that should be a problem. BTW, I gave my first all 5's review on BA a couple days ago.

It took me a couple of mintues to realize that you were not talking about a beer, but an establishment. Sweet. I wish I had a good beer store close to me. BevMo is about as good as it gets in Sacramento. They aren't bad, but they are nothing like a good specialty shop.Hey Skylord, I noticed that you revied a Gordon Biersch beer. What the hell happened to that brewery? They used to have some decent stuff a few years ago. I haven't had a beer that I would consider above average from them in a long time.

I walked in for the 2nd time ever today and both owners greeted me by name. Now that's good service. The beer guy knows his stuff and carries great product. I really don't know how they could improve without getting more space in the store.

FatMax, looks like you didn't like the 10 Years Alt quite as much as I did. I am usually not a huge alt fan and that one I love. Wish it wasn't a one time brew. Speaking of that, I better go buy a bunch before it is all gone.

Just got home and cracked a 60 minute IPA. While this isn't a bad beer at all, I think I am growing out of it.
I can't even get it, much less grow out of it. :hot: Send all of your remaining stock to me :excited:
Winston,Just finishing one of the beers with your avatar on it. My first St. Bernardus Abt 12 actually. Pretty good. I like the caramel, malty falvor quite a bit. It's got something else going on I can't quite place, but it mostly lives up to the hype of its rating.

I don't rate yet. I want to explore a little more and then get into rating. Plus it gives me an excuse to buy more beer later. It's all about pacing yourself... "Well, Honey, I have to buy it because I need to rate the beer."

Just practicing. Plus I don't have all that fancy-schmancy gobbledee#### beer talk down yet. And don't they IP ban you if you don't use a certain level of snobbery in your review on BA?

ETA:

Wow. Talk about being PC around here -- they blocked g o o k out of that word. Not like I was talking about North Vietnam or anything. Sheesh.

Yeah, my beer ratings hardly have all the language, but I still like to do it to know what I have had and to be able to refer to later on.

I have both written and mental notes. I keep an Excel file here with my current inventory, as well as notes. And I already have a good sense of the beers I really like (GI Imp, any FFFs, etc). I suppose I could rate the ones I truly like on BA. But simply haven't gotten around to it. Plus, not sure what my first review should be.

This really frightens me. Do I really want to know how much beer I have on hand?

oops... on to a Bear Republic Big Bear Black Stout

Really good beer. It's not up there with the elite RIS's of the world, but then again, it isn't an RIS.
i really like this beer. didn't expect it to have the hop bite that it does.. not harsh, in fact very mild. great stuff. like they took the Racer 5 recipe and made it in to a stout.

I use it to keep track of what I want to send people, or give to friends. It's a standard inventory type sheet I developed. Nothing fancy, just some columns and functions to track how much I have, any new buys, plus any outgoing beers (drinking, trading or giving). You should be well versed in this concept. My current count (before sending any for BIF, trades, giving or BOTMC) is 274 right now. Plus whatever Duckboy sent me (haven't entered that yet). So 281 as of right now. I didn't buy any today, which is an accomplishment for me lately, so that helps I suppose. I also have it broken down into: stored/cellared, cold (fridge), boxed, and outgoing. It's far too detailed for any normal person. But I was off virtually all of the last two weeks. So I had time. I think I have worked a total of almost two days in the last two weeks. And only one full day.

As Wingnut noted, mine have basically gone 180' from the start of this thread and the BIF thread. I wasn't into hoppy beers then, but can't get enough now. I am wondering where the next evolution will take me. Maybe I can expand my primitive caveman mind.

Well, the hardest part was the original inventory. Then it's just a matter of keeping the receipts and remembering to enter anything new. I plan to keep that up until I get my BIF box sent, and a few other trades and gifts out the door. After BIF, BOTMC, gifts and trades, I'll be down to around 145 by my count. So I have a bunch of stuff to get out of here. And I still have 6 more bottles to pick up tomorrow to finish up on BOTMC.

Glad you dug it. While Abt 12 tends to be pretty consistent quality-wise, occasionally you get a bottle that is so good it makes you want to rip your face off. I got one of those, and with it, a new avatar

Damn these St Bernardus corks in the 750mls don't want to come out.
And for my $, there is no finer buzz than that acquired after knocking out a 750 of Abt 12. Always puts me in a nice, sleepy, tranquil bliss :banned:
DFH 120 did that to me that one time I tried to finish it in under 30 minutes.Getting......very......sleepy.......

Mine has evolved over the past 25 years or so - yeah, I got in on the beer geek IPO. ;) Here's my evolution in rough terms:Used to love malty German brews and found IPAs just bizarre - but then, at the time (early 1980s) the primary IPA available was Ballantine IPA, which was a hop monster (!) and aged in oak. Yes really. Then I went through a "bigger is better" malt bomb stage and avoided hops entirely. Then Belgium arrived and drained my wallet. That ended about the time I discovered SNPA and found that Middle Ages IPA was REALLY good on cask. Any more it's just "what am I thirsty for?" with no rhyme or reason.
