What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (1 Viewer)

:hot: that my recommendation of allagash white, a superior witbier went out the window.but  at another potential aspiring advocate.
All in due time. The reason I picked up the Goose Island, CM, and Shiner is because I'm looking for some beer that is more readily available and I don't have to drive to Kentucky to get. Something that I can order when I'm out to eat. What kind of beer do you guys order when out to eat?

By the way, hopefully I'm not ruining my taste for the common beers. I used to really like Molsen Golden. I had some at the in-laws' on Saturday and it tasted like piss after drinking the Goose Island 312 the night before.
The more craft brew you drink, the more you will find American (and Candian) macros undrinkable. Sort of like getting used to dining at Mortons then going for a Big Mac. The Big Mac will never taste as good as it once did, but there is still at time and place for it.Re: the food pairing, I don't really worry about that. When I'm out, by default, I try to find a beer on tap that I haven't tried before. I don't worry so much about the style. I know some others here have some better opinions on food pairing with different beer styles.

shuke,

Ive been in a trading mood since joing the BIF. If you are interested in doing a small 6 pack swap just to get your feet wet, and sample some more west coast brews, let me know.

Fortunately or Unfortunately....you are. Obviously you will drink it if it is the only thing avaialble, but this place has changed my beer buying habits for good. I can't walk out of the ####### store without spending $100 on wine and beer.

Counting down: 5 days to Great Taste of the Midwest. I'll be off-line over the weekend, but know that I'll be sampling from the following among the 100+ breweries at the fest::- Flossmoor Station - Founders - Goose Island- Great Lakes- Jolly Pumpkin- Kalamazoo (Bells)- Kuhnhenn - New Glarus- New Holland- piece - Sprecher- Three Floyds- Town Hall (Masala Mama!) :pickle:
Damn.I could be happy as a clam just hitting that baker's dozen. Wottafookinlineup!
Lots of other good breweries, too, just not as recognizable names, since they don't have the production/distribution volume of some of the better-known ones. It's a great fest - outdoors, right on Lake Monona. Limited to 5K tickets, so even though it's crowded, it's still manageable. The only time it gets crazy is when somebody taps a 'special' keg (e.g., Devil Dancer, KY Breakfast, or some of Bell's and Floyds' off the wall stuff). And Madison's a great eating/drinking town anyway, so Friday afternoon/evening and Saturday night are great, too, aside from the 5-hours of sampling at the festival.Forecast is sunny, low 80s. Man, I'm psyched already!
Founders is tapping a 1/6th barrel of KY Breakfast Stout at Angelic Brewing on Friday @ 8. might want to get there early and belly up to the bar."FoundersDaveGrand Rapids, Michigan Beer Mail Privately FoundersDave is not on-line BA Since: Mar 21, 2005 Founders Great Tast Pre-PartyPosted: 08-04-2006 19:37:00 UTC--FYI... Founders will be doing a pre-fest party at Angelic Brewing on Friday night. 8pm until late. We have pulled a couple 1/6 BBLs of our Kentucky Breakfast Stout from the dungeon just for this occasion. These are the only kegs of KBS sold in Wisconsin. Dirty ******* and Centennial IPA will also be available. Always looking forward to the fest.Cheers, Dave"
They mentioned this at the Indy brewfest a couple of weeks ago. I'll be getting to Madison mid-late afternoon, so I'll try to get over and check this out.

:goodposting: Went camping this past weekend. Friday night went through some Old Rasputin RIS, Rogue Chocolate Stout, Ayinger Celebrator, SN Porter, Spaten Oktoberfest, Hazelnut Brown Nectar, and a few Paulaner Hefes. (A little warm outside for most of those but I was just trying to let my buddy try out some new stuff).

For the canoe trip we took Bud Light cans (no bottles allowed on the river). Tasted like piss water, but after getting a few down I didn't mind. They got the job done.

wow, BA is really really ridiculous regarding the posting.

i met stonecrusher on Sunday (some of you guys might recognize his name). anyways, he's got a rep around the BA (self-cultivated mind you) of being sort of this mean, tough, guy. in reality he's a gentle giant type. good guy.

made a joke, before we met, about being worried that he might hit me with a bottle.... based on his rep... people cracked jokes, good times were had.

so i meet the guy and then post a thread about it joking that he hit me with a bottle, and i spent the rest of the time in a fog, but he seemed a great guy blah blah blah

dude requested the thread be locked!!!!! he said to me "i drink at a lot of pubs in Milwaukee, i don't need people thinking that i'm going to hit them with bottles"

WHAT THE ####?!?!??!?!?!!?!!!??

5 pages, not ONE person took it seriously EXCEPT him!

jeezus. he REALLY thinks that people believe he hit me over the head with a bottle for no good reason... and that people, going forward, will cower in fear of being hit with a bottle every time they see him.

holy ####. what in the ####?

Furley I think its time for you to visit the "light, medium and dark" forums over at RB. Seems a bit more up your alley. Pretty sure there is NO moderation going on there.

Its not humor, its FUN. NO FUN. Everything must be VERY SERIOUS. After all beer is very serious business.

Good info here.
http://www.russianriverbrewing.com/pages/b...tification.html
6.25%ABV / 1.060 O.G / 27 BUs

Fermented with 100% Brettanomyces

Sanctification: Who's afraid of the "big bad BRET?" We'll tell you who: winemakers! Because of our close proximity to several hundred wineries, we often get winemakers visiting our brewery. (After all, it takes a lot of great beer to make great wine!) Because we use 100% Brettanomyces yeast to ferment Sanctification, most winemakers will only smell the glass, and only a very few will venture to taste the beer. They think the Brettanomyces will attach to their clothing and end up in their winery. A simple solution was offered: keep a smudge pot burning at the door of our brewery so they can burn their clothes when exiting, but even that was not enough. After giving it more thought, we concluded that winemakers think Brettanomyces might scar their taste buds and possible even permeate their skin? Either way, Sanctification is one of the most unique beers you will ever taste! It was fermented with 100% Brettanomyces, rather than the traditional Saccharomyces.

Rotational release. Available on draft and in 750mL bottles. Can be found in the Brewpub, Northern California, and Southern California.
For Nucular George. You might want to buy some of this. If this is truley still batch 001, they have aged it about 18 months after bottling. This has potential to be another epic RR beer.
:goodposting: of a :goodposting: Emailed them to ask if it would be distributed outside of CA. Nope. Only 70 cases. So I ordered some. Only 4 bottles, but that should be enough. Just want to try it.

Young's Double Chocolate Stout  I assume that freezer packs are the best way to keep beers cold on a trip like that?

Some buddies and I want to camp in a few weeks.

The trade box and Random Box o'Beer from Nucular George were here! Was pretty late by the time I got them opened (my daughter had to help, including counting and restocking - corrupted at almost 4); everything made it intact. Final count:

12 oz:

3 Bell's Porter

2 Founders Imperial Stout

Great Lakes Blackout Stout

FFFs Alpha King

Founders Black Rye

FFFs Pride & Joy

Great Lakes Eddie Fitzgerald

Bells' Third Coast

Great Lakes Burning River

Two Brother's Ebel's Weiss

Founders Pale Ale

Founders Old Curmudgeon

22 oz:

FFFs Black Sun Stout

Two Brothers Hop Juice

Oh yeah and :banned: I'll be queuing this one up for Friday.

Thanks NG - this is a great box or two. I'm set now for at least the next week.

Too late. Unless you're financially strapped, you're probably in for the long haul. The questions you're asking are ones that I've either thought of myself or asked here within the last few months. And look what's happened to me.Last school year, I used to get Bass virtually everywhere on tap because I thought it was the best beer I had ever had. Now, I simply won't drink it. It does nothing for me. If I go to a bar w/ no beer selection, I'll probably order a mixed drink like Kahlua or something with taste in it ;that, or drink water and volunteer to be the designated driver the night. I just see no reason to pay $5 for something that I've had before and don't like when I can put that $5 toward a beer I've never had before when I make a beer run the next day. I actually hope to seldomly return to many of the spots I used to frequent last year because I've read about other places in the area that have better selection.

And that's not being a "beer snob," that's just logic.

Saw that. Excellent to see that everything made it. I was so nervous about some of the bottles that I packed every single one in its own freezer ziplock bag, plus bubble wrap.

What kind of beer do you guys order when out to eat?

By the way, hopefully I'm not ruining my taste for the common beers. I used to really like Molsen Golden. I had some at the in-laws' on Saturday and it tasted like piss after drinking the Goose Island 312 the night before.
Where are you getting your beer in Cincy? I don't know how convienent it is for you, but I thought Hyde Park Wine & Spirits had a pretty good selection. I didn't get a chance to go there, but I have heard that the Dilly Deli in Mariemont has some hard to find beers.

Fortunately or Unfortunately....you are. Obviously you will drink it if it is the only thing avaialble, but this place has changed my beer buying habits for good. I can't walk out of the ####### store without spending $100 on wine and beer.

Young's Double Chocolate Stout  I assume that freezer packs are the best way to keep beers cold on a trip like that?

Some buddies and I want to camp in a few weeks.
We just use ice to get the beer cold. We usually camp in the spring when its cooler. We stayed in a small cabin on the river this time to avoid sleeping in the heat.

I'll be headed to Cincy in two weeks for a wedding and I am planning on hitting both these places. I predict I will have a heavy carry-on bag on the way home.

A strange thing happened when the mail came. I got a box from someone who I didn't recognize. I was afraid it could be a mail bomb, so I sent it back with the postman.

One of TT Sniper Packages?
 Some guy in Illinois. Wasn't the unibomber from Illinois?
I hear they have good beer in Illinois......
if you consider Wisconsin part of Illinois, then

In all seriousness, thanks a ton for the beer. I hated dropping out of BIF II, but money is kind of tight right now, so its nice to receive a suprise package. In due time you may receive a shipment as well. Again, thanks a lot, and I take back all the bad things I ever said about you. :wub:The package included two beers. First a Founder's Imperial Stout, which is great because it was the one stout I wanted to try while I was in Cincy awhile back and didn't get the chance. The second beer was a Hop Juice DIPA from Two Brothers brewing in Illinois. Again, a beer I haven't tried, and anything with the name Hop Juice should be pretty good. Thanks a lot Nucular George.
