What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (5 Viewers)

Finally got around to trying the Founders Imperial Stout last night courtesy of Nucular Gerge (thanks again). Really good stout, one which I liked a lot better than Bell's Expedition and only slightly less enjoyable than Stone RIS or Speedway only due to being less complex. Nice deep black color it pured with nary a head on it. The mouthfell was about perfect, as it was thick without being too oily. Roasted malts and chocolate dominated the flavor, and it had a nice bit of alcohol burn. Easy to drink for such a big beer, and while it could have been more complex that may have taken away from its drinkibility. Solid RIS, one which I would pick up if it were available here in the South.
This is good news. I have a Founder's RIS in the fridge at home right now. I really liked the Expedition a lot though. I'm interested to see how I compare the two.
Just cracked this. I disagree with the Trout. I liked the Bell's more, although this is a really good RIS.

I thought that you would side with the Bell's. I think it is a factor of what I like in Imperial Stouts. They are the one style where I think you can go overboard sometimes, but that is just my tastes. I think the Speedway walks the line for me perfectly. The Stone is also complex and yet very drinkable. The Bell's just wasn't that drinkable to me.

I don't know. If I have one beef with Speedway, it's that it might be a little too big for me. I didn't get that same feeling with Bell's.

Sand Creek Wild Ride IPA from the Tip Top collection. Nice piney IPA, VERY carbonated. Good stuff!

THIS is interesting, especially to those among us who like wild yeasts...

I'd almost prefer they make the same recipe but ferment it with their own yeasts...instead of making a big concoction.

THAT would be cool. Each use the same recipe, the only difference being the culture added to it at the end. Plus instead of having beer nuts line up to buy one beer, we'd all buy 5 different beers. Genius, I tell ya, GENIUS!!!!

I'd buy them all. Guaranteed. But judging by the collaborative Summit IPA experiment conducted by a number of West Coast breweries, it might be less than great.

Yeah, I'd buy a case of all five and wet myself doing a horizontal tasting.

I'm trying the Stite black and tan that comes in the metal bottle. One of the negatives is how cold this thing pours. Its not going to be at drinking temp for 45 minutes.

How do you like it? I didn't see anything major wrong with it the few times i've had it.

No, I wouldn't consider it "bad". Just nothing really appealing with it. Thought it tasted like watered down candi corn.

Inspired by BIF II, I branched out today in search of a new supplier. Found a local Mecca of Beer and am currently sipping a Stone Ruination while grilling.

Damn this is one good beer.

:banned:

These dickbags that come over to play poker need better taste in beer.

Beer disappearing:

Old Rasputin

DFH 60 Minute IPA

Beer previously not in fridge, now there:

Bud Light

Heinekin

Heinekin Light

Pete's Wicked Strawberry Blonde (?????)

1st time for both. Usually can't get any of the three I bought tonight out here.

So it looks like Bax and I might be in Vegas in September, anyone want to meet up at the Freakin Frog?
Will you be there the opening week of the NFL?
Looking like either 10-14th or 11-15th.
During the week huh?
Yep, I work weekends, so I actually take less days off that way. And it's cheaper.
You work two days a week?
Don't I wish. Wed-Sun.

Founders Black Rye

Very good. Jet black, with a strong burnt rye smell. Almost like a very well done, but not really burnt piece of rye toast. A rye beer to be sure, but had hints of stout in there too in terms of what to compare it to. Just flat out a very good beer. Would compare it to a very dry stout, as far as being somewhat thin body and drinkable.

Founders Red's Rye

Not nearly as good as the Black Rye. Way way too much carbonation. Tried it from the bottle and all I got was bubbles. The pour left way too much foam because of the carbonation, couldn't even finish the pour. Flavor is so-so. Certainly nowhere as good as the Black Rye. No clue how this thing gets such a high rating at BA.

I liked this post better when it was "very wekk done."

Sorry, the 2 drink maximum for me is kicking in. Damn Furley had to go and get booted until Friday. When he's missing, I am much more of a target. Oh well (wekk?), it is my lot in life...

In the fridge waiting for Friday. Will be my first one of the night, so I can get a better taste for it. Looking forward to it. Thanks again for the box. Far too much good beer in there for any mortal man other than TT and Evilgrin to drink at once.
