What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (3 Viewers)

So I delivered a not guilty to two police officers in a police brutality case vs an 11 year old mexican boy today. Its still bothering me, but I think it would be bothering me no matter which way I had gone.

While I was leaving, the boy and his mother were bawling. I stopped and talked with both sides of lawyers before I left for about 30 minutes each. Its going to bother me for a while that I'll never really know what happened.

I'm drinking tonight.

Glll bro, hope it all works for you.

2005 GI Imperial IPA
that will be gone this week, as well as the 2006 :banned:
FYI, this is one of the higher alcohol, stronger hop beers that can age well. I wouldn't age it for a super long time, but even the 2005 is good now. However, the 05/06 side by side tasting should be a good event. Seems to me that they changed the recipe a little. Although that could also be a side-affect of the recent change to corporate mass-market ownership, as they have really ramped up production of these "white label" craft beers by GI. They do taste notably different though. I still have I think 8 of the 2005 in the cellar to age a little bit. I plan to break them out for DL weekend to see how they fare. That would give them 18 months of age. Also have plenty of the 06 to try. I've been stocking up a bit for the weekend......

You say delivered. You are a judge? I can only imagine how tough that would be. Sorry to hear that.Edit: Short term memory loss. You were on jury duty. You did what you had to do. Don't feel bad about it.

The one I had tasted like a beer that could age nicely. MA Druid Fluid is (to me) a standardbearer for beer aging - starts out as a hoppy barleywine, then it mellows nicely over the span of two years. Beers that have that solid malt balance along with a good hop bitterness are generally candidates - the bittering hops are excellent preservatives. Thing is, if you really like a beer's hop aromatics (some of the wet hop beers come to mind) they'll be gone or diminished within a month or two. Just looked in my beer cellar - most of the beers I have on the back shelf are malty SOBs or Belgians. But, oh, are they calling to me...

Have multiple of most of these, so please tell me I don't have to go on a binge.

Just tell me what to keep, not the ones to drink, as I figure the later is larger then the former.
Here it is in a nutshell...Keep the following beers as long as you want Barleywines

Old ales

Quads

Lambics

Beers you should drink as quickly as possible

pilsners

lagers

hefe's

pale ales

IPA's
Stouts/Porters high in alcohol in that middle?ETA: thanks.

:kicksrock: Bakes makes an excellent point. As a beer ages it will lose some of its fresh hop character. If that is the primary part of the beer (Ruination and Hop Whallop come to mind), then drink it sooner. If the beer has a nice malt character with a decent amount of alcohol, it should age well.

To be honest....I'm not all that high on aged Imp stouts or porters. I feel like they lose something that I find desirable. Then again, I really don't have as much experience with those aged varieties as other styles. I feel like I like my stouts and porters fresh, bursting with flavor. What I like about other aged beers are the toffee flavors that develop. I can't find those in aged imp stouts, they are generally hidden behind other flavors.I suppose I need to find a really old version of stout from Stuffed Sandwich to really make an educated call.

Last night a knocked off some trash from my new local beer club ... Miller lite, RR, and Coors (original).

this whole comparing beers of the same style side by side is pretty sweet. i could def. tell i preferred the founders breakfast stout over the ones i had the two nights before.

Moved onto a Goose Island Demolition. Wanted to have a IIPA from NG, but grabbed this one instead. This beer is ok. I wouldn't buy again. IIPA will soon come, and I am VERY excited for this one. I almost want to save it for a special occasion. We'll see how I feel after this brew.
Have you had the Stone 10th? If so, i'd like to read your comparisons with it and the GI IIPA. I have one coming from orcinus and am interested in what to expect.
:football: :football: U let me know...

I am heading to San Antonio after the new year, does anyone know what is available there?
Make a trip across the border into Indiana. You'll find plenty of Stone there. Chicago can't get it, but backwater bumble#### Indiana can. Makes no sense to me, but then again I've never been accused of being "the smart".
We have Stone here... just can't find the 10th
Well, I guess I shouldn't have poured my 4 bottles down the drain. Damn. :boxing:
If he makes it to DL Day I just might bring my 3lt bottle of Stone 10th.
If I can figure out how to bring a 3L 2002 Double ******* on a plane I will bring it.

TT, how do these two compair?

Ship it. I'll help pay the shipping charge. And you can send it to me for "safekeeping". :lmao:
There is no danger in this. It takes NG "and friends" just to polish off a growler.
This is true. I'd pickle myself with a 3L of anything. Much less something as tasty and good as a Double *******. Maybe I can just climb inside the bottle and get to work.....

Which two?
I think he's talking about the Stone 10th and GI Imperial.
Hmmm...Stone 10th is way more piney and maybe a touch less balanced. Sounds like a nice head to head for someone.
I would have, but I'm out of the 10th. Shoulda saved some from their "fate".
I have plenty of both (case of GI IIPA and 8 bombers of 10th). I think I still have a 05 GI IIPA, so I could do a side by side by side.

:shock:The Pinieness was my main problem with the 10th. I look forward to the GI IIPA even more now. If I can find a 10th, I wouldn't mind giving it a second chance and doing the side by side.
