What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (1 Viewer)

well since BTGs seems to be :deadbanana: I'll ask my question here...

I'm looking to buy a small beer cooler to store beer in (we don't have basements or cellars 'round dees parts to store our beer in) and all I can find are wine coolers. I thought I had read somewhere that beer should be kept upright and not laying down like most wine coolers are made.

A. Does it matter if you store beer on its side for a long period of time?

B. Would a small fridge work just as well?
I would think that temperature control is key here. My minifridge allows for a combination of standing/laying bottles, so I keep the ones that are ageable standing up, and my session beers laying down. The temperature control is also very good, as I keep it at pretty much it's warmest setting...gotta be somewhere around 40-45...bottles aren't frosty when they come out, but it is cooler than cellar temp.I've got this one (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7046118&type=product&productCategoryId=cat05005&id=1099397015586), it was originally meant to be my kegerator (one of the only minifridge models without a freezer) as it can hold two 5-gallon soda kegs or a 1/4 barrel. It converted into my bottle fridge when I realized that I prefer too much variety.

There is also a Kenmore version of this same fridge, just a rebadge. That's the actual one I purchased. I think it was about $100 on eBay.

That's actually pretty small, you'd be amazed how quickly it fills up. I have a combination of 750ml, 22 oz, 12oz and cans in mine, and it holds well over 50 total.

Corked beers are fine to store on their sides. Capped bottles should be stored upright though. I've always read the "rule" as capped beers should never be stored so that the beer touches the cap while storing.

It's my understanding that it's the cap material that is the issue, but rather the yeast/sediment in the bottle.Laying them on their sides will form coagulation of sediment on the vertical plane of the bottle when it is stood back up right or poured. Many people like to decant their beers so that there is no sediment in the pour, personally I don't care and kinda like a few floaties in there. High in vitamins!

Evenin', Gents!

Just got back from a biz trip that took me through Amherst, and got my hands on a few C-Dubs!

I started things off with a Ouisconsing Red Ale and then moved on to a Satin Solstice Imperial Stout. Yum-E. :lmao:

I take Paulaner (then again it is my favorite). Nice and refreshing, not heavy, and pretty damn good straight from the bottle.

After the Ruination, i ended up drinking:

Abbey Des Rocs Tripel Imperial

My last Hop Wallop

My last Hop Slam

Allagash White

Alesmith Wee Heavy

Now, I'm finishing up with a glass of water

Yes, it's still Thursday people.

:hey:Did you ever have the Hop Trip from deschutes that they ran out of in about an instant? Much better than the hop wallop, imo. I'm stocking up next year when it comes out.
Unfortunately, Deschutes is rather new to the San Diego area so their special releases and their 22oz bottle don't make it here. I am interested in their Hop henge though. Love to try it.

Er...dammitI was thinking of the hop henge when I said hop wallop. The hop henge is very meh, in my opinion. No crispness to it that I like in an IPA. I wouldn't get too excited about it.
Thanks for the heads up. It's too bad i live in San Diego.... no good IPA's out here :o

Founders Curmudgeon Old Ale. 2005 or 2006 don't remember which year.

Been waiting on this one. A little early today, but it's after 10am so no rules broken.
