OK, had it tonight. I can't give it an unequivocal "best in class" rating, because I really love the cask-conditioned oatmeal stout at the La Jolla Rock Bottom, as well as the Sea Monster Stout by Ballast Point. But the Speedway was at least tied for best.It kind of kicked my ###, though. I had a 750ml bottle and I'm pretty much just headed to bed at this point. If you like stouts, then I can **guarantee** that you are going to be totally blown away by the Speedway. Make sure you drink it cellar temp, don't drink it too cold.
Those are both really smooth stouts you mentioned. Speedway is fairly aggressive for sure. You might want to try Stone Imperial stout...its local to you and quite smooth.OK, had it tonight. I haven't had it, but I've heard fairly good things.Has anyone ever had the Bourbon Barrel Ale by Kentucky Ale?
This stuff is great. I am in Lexington for work and tried this stuff. I plan on taking some back with me, when I am done here.
Cask-conditioned red ale at Rock Bottom.
It's pretty cool to be able to get decent cask-conditioned ale a few blocks from where I live. (Should I mention that I never get charged for beer there?)Cask-conditioned red ale at Rock Bottom.![]()
Add some spices and you have yourself a pretty good marinadeWord of advice for anyone trying to brew your own beer for the first time, although using empty 10 gal pickle buckets, from your local McDonalds may seem like a good idea, no how well you wash out the buckets, you'll still wind up with 30 gals of pickle beer.
Spent 7 weeks in Texas, where it is pretty much all Shiner, all the time...Soon it will be 6 months in Afghanistan, where it will be no beer, none of the time....Been gone a while....Tonight, Otter Creek Pale Alebuddy.
