Not sure, but it is a common white wine grape from Italy. Probably has several other names depending on the region/country it is grown in (not unlike Shiraz (Aust.) and Syrah (just about everywhere else).Alright.
Trebbiano is also known as?
Close. It is the most planted Italian grape.Grape used in most white Italian wines?Alright.

No sweat. Beer and wine were both acquired tastes for me. I didn't start appreciating wine until just before I finished university. I drank beer since I was 16, but didn't really begin to enjoy it until I started playing more golf. Cool. Hopefully I'll get some help from Jules & company. I certainly am no expert, but I would love to our master list together. I'll work on it later tonight probably. No sweat. What do Tannins do for the wine?
Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if that is the case. I walked into a beer and wine store in D.C. a few years ago with a friend and was absolutely stunned by the hundreds of kinds of beer on display.Actually, I read an article a few months ago that stated that there are actually MORE varities of beer than wine.Ill try to find the article later but am enjoying a good beer right now so I dont have timeThere are a million more kinds of wine than beer,
That was sort of my intention in getting this started -- ergo my first (more lengthy) review in the original post. If it's imported: Who is the importing company? What is the Grape varietyjules....help with some ideas for the format of the OFFICIAL thread...ie A running list of our choices & notes? What else does it need?
WINE WORT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Here's two questions. The first one is in honour of my good friend that introduced me to wine in law school. The second one is in honour of another good friend that introduced me to winemaking (from actual grapes).
2. What is the mixture of grapes and juice called after grapes are pressed to begin fermentation?
Depends on the "rules". Wine is, for all practical purposes, fermented grape juice aged in oak. Besides some basic compounds to control sugar content, alcohol content, etc nothing else is added. Can the rules be bent to other fruits? If not then wine is constrained.Beer isn't constrained by these boundaries. Hops now a days make up fraction of the ingredients that can and will go into beer to define its character. There are far more varieties of beer than wine because of this.Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if that is the case.

1) I think it is Croatia2) The MustHere's two questions. The first one is in honour of my good friend that introduced me to wine in law school. The second one is in honour of another good friend that introduced me to winemaking (from actual grapes).
1. What country did "they" recently confirm Zinfandel originated from?

Kind of why I (or you)want to start a new one....reserve the first posts & do one post for each of the major varietals + others. Good points. I will add chile, argentina, Aus, NZ, & South africa + one called others!thanksWhat about Aus/NZ, Chile/Argentina, South Africa? We don't need to list the various regions (Rapel Valley, Marlborough, Stellenbosch, etc) but just the country. Or we could just have Australia/NZ, South America, Other.
The reason I say this is because there are some decent wines for the price there. For example Casa Lapastolle cab's from Chile, sauvignon blanc's from NZ, and one of my favorites: Altos Las Hormigas Colonia Las Liebres bonarda from Argentina.
And I don't have the $$ to be trying expensive bordeaux or burgundies.
Just a thought.
Common misconception. They are totally different grapes now.Tipsy, Shiraz and Syrah are the same varietal - you've got both listed.
I do. And look forward to hearing thoughts.A few buddies (and their wives) and I decided to start a "once a month dinner" where we sample wines from various regions. We'll merely tell the sommellier what part of the world, or which varietal we'd like to focus on each month. Then we'll tell them a price range to stay in.What about Aus/NZ, Chile/Argentina, South Africa? We don't need to list the various regions (Rapel Valley, Marlborough, Stellenbosch, etc) but just the country. Or we could just have Australia/NZ, South America, Other.
