What QB2 would you drop for Cassel? (1 Viewer)

I have Schaub as my QB2, and I don't think I would drop him for Cassel. If I had Campbell on the other hand.........

EDIT: I should have posted as " For example, I have Schaub as my QB2......" Not looking for advice, just curious as to who Cassel might supplant as a QB2.

I don't know, Schaub looked pretty bad today (coming from a fellow Schaub owner). Their running game seems to be a mess, and their line still looks terrible. I know I will be debating it all week.

Cassel is no Brady, of course, but he is still the quarterback on the Patriots throwing to Moss and Welker. Then again, will the Patriots go back to the way they used to play a few years ago, scoring just enough to win games? That is basically what happened today - and it is certainly not a formula for huge fantasy points.

Word on the streets is that Chris Simms is visiting the Patriots tomorrow. I guess we'll have to keep an eye on that.

I dropped Rodgers for him

Barring a big game from him tomo, Id expect I could get him back off waivers

I highly doubt this. Bad move. If there isn't a waiver period for dropped players, I would go right back to your wire and get Rodgers back, if someone else in your league didn't grab him already. Rodgers has top 10 QB potential this year. Cassel is clipboard holder. He doesn't have a ceiling nearly as high as Rodgers, unless the Pats were lucky enough to strike gold twice with late round no-name QBs. The TD pass to Moss was his first since HIGH SCHOOL. He was even a backup all through college. IMO, he'll be no higher than the bottom of the QB2 tier in a 12-team league, and possibly only ahead of guys like Orton, K. Collins now, Huard, and maybe Campbell after the way he looked in the new offense. I give him credit for playing fairly well in the circumstances, and looking decent doing it, but I wouldn't be counting on him continuing to be able to do that.

Agreed, this is key. Cassel may have looked serviceable, but this is a guy who has a grand total of 0 starts in the NFL...and another 0 starts in college. While obviously having a wealth of experience as the QB understduy, he has more starting experience at TE than at QB during his years at USC and the Pats.I'm not saying he isn't the de facto starter for now -- he's been in this system since he was drafted in 05. But bringing in a QB with proven starting ability, even if that ability is far from spectatcular, is a smart move by the Pats, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Cassel on a very short leash if they sign Simms -- if Simms doesn't supplant Cassel from the get-go.Whatever the case may be, I wouldn't start dropping more viable QB2s for Cassel just yet unless you are weak at the QB position overall. While NE has had a plethora of superstars, they involve EVERYONE in the offence. Would love to hear some NE homers chime in on the possibility of Simms starting from day one if signed, or whether if Cassel does retain the starting gig, how potentially viable it would be to see them platoon Cassel and Simms (if signed) if that's what gets the job done.

No way would I drop Schaub for Backup Boy.The Texans & Schaub are notorious for struggling against 3-4 Defenses. I am also a Schaub owner & expected him to struggle Weeks 1-2 vs the Steelers & Ravens. Expect another iffy game from Schaub next week, then it'll turn around.Schaub's 200yd & 2TDs wasn't too bad. I see that statline as Cassel's ceiling.
