What song are you listening to right now? (4 Viewers)

Tiger Del Flor - Living In The 90s (2023)

🎶 and i wish we were living in the 90s
like a tarantino movie
wish we were living in the 90s
palm trees and cigarette smoke fading in the sun
riding in a cop car
my baby’s got a loaded gunsays it’s fun🎶

A mix of Lana Del Rey and Cigarettes After Sex with a really nostalgic vibe.

I found it on a "Best of Fresh Finds Indie 2024" list on Spotify, but was released in December 2023.

Jefferson Airplane - Somebody To Love (Live at The Fillmore West SFO 1968)

If you've ever been in a band, you probably know that songs tend to evolve over time. It's gets boring always doing it the same way, so you will try different things just to keep it fresh and interesting.

However, when a band has a hit with a song, that version becomes "frozen" in a sense that audiences expect them to do just it like that when they see them, and may not be receptive to any form of experimentation.

With the Jefferson Airplane, their songs kept evolving as evidencef by this live take of their biggest hit (from the LP Bless It's Pointed Little Head)

Sorry, Fillmore live performance is not available on Spotify.

Grand Funk - Bad Time (1975)

Never was a big Grand Funk Railroad fan. Quite frankly, I thought they were rather mediocre.

That said, I was recently reminded me they did have one absolutely great song, where they rose above themselves.

I can't explain why I love this song so much... From the first time I heard it and then saw their goofy CGI video... Love. Not even a guitar in sight. And the singer is gorgeous in a non obvious way...and love her voice. Swedish super group.

Algen- Amason

Algen- Amason

Glad I gave it a listen. The intro hooked me and when her voice came in (y)

Really glad you or anybody else likes it. I meant to preface my op... "I'm probably on an island here" because that EZ listening vibe isn't for everyone. Especially those of us that like our guitars.

I just learned that The Jayhawks did a pretty good cover of this, with a slight Country Rock, Alt Country flavor.

CCR - Wrote A Song For Everyone

Rory Gallagher - Walk On Hot Coals (1973)

Rory Gallagher was the best lead guitarist that I ever saw.

Gallagher sold over 30 million records worldwide but isn't in the R&R Hall Of Fame...go figure.

Blow Monkeys - Digging Your Scene (1986, Grandad Steve Remix)

This pop/soul/jazz fusion tune still sounds fresh after almost 40 years.

Fun Fact:
This was the first pop hit to deal with the AIDS epidemic, althought US listeners were unaware of it at the time and RCA didn't go out of their way to point it out.

Free - Wishing Well (2024 Stereo Rmx)

"A new, more balanced, 2024 stereo mix. More stereophonic, more bass and more oomph!"

I don't think I realized how muddy the 1972 orginal mix was until I heard this. There is a lot going on in that song that I never picked up on before.

The Doors and The Temptations - Break on Through (to the Funky Side)

Mashup of The Doors' "Break on Through (to the Other Side)" and The Temptations' "Shakey Ground, with a special guest appearance by AC/DC "Back in Black" (live).

Allison Russell - The Returner

I'm not sure she has a bad song.

Graveyard Club - William (2019)

What I imagine a collaboration between Martin Gore of Depeche Mode and Elizabeth Fraser of the Cocteau Twins might have sounded like.

Stiff Little Fingers - Suspect Device
Love this whole album, imo it’s the best punk album . A look inside living through the troubles and lashes out at both sides
I'm an old metalhead but have been listening to mostly punk the past couple of years. This song is actually new to me and I love it!
I used to sing in a metal band in my younger years and have started to write some punk stuff with a guitarist I hooked up with. Having a blast!

Skinny Puppy - Smothered Hope

The Everly Brothers - Cathy's Clown (Live TV 1960)

Arguably one of the most unique #1 hits in Rock And Roll history, as it opens with the chorus (which breaks some kind of song writing rule). And, they could do it live.

Their harmonies were unequalled and was a big influence on The Beatles.

Yoyomi - One Night In Bangkok (2021)

Murray Head cover I like better than the original (never cared for Head's vocals which I found irritating and seemed self-conscious or stilted)

Yoyomi is a South Korean K-Pop, R&B, Dance Music singer and actress.

Sorry, no Spotify version available.

Full disclosure: I always thought this was Van Morrison
:bag:

Eastbourne, UK band Toploader did a pretty good cover - slower and funkier than the original

#7 in the UK. Did not chart in the US. Interestingly, my friends in the UK had never heard the King Harvest version and was not aware that Toploader was doing a cover.

Toploader - Dancing in the Moonlight (2000)

Buffalo Tom - Taillights Fade. One of my favorites from the 90s. Criminally underrated lyrics
