What song are you listening to right now? (1 Viewer)

Emitt Rhodes - Tame The Lion 🦁 (1973)

🎶Tame the lion
Now he's tasted blood
He's killing when we say no🎶

One of the best Anti-war songs ever. And the only topical song Emitt Rhodes ever recorded.

Rhodes presented this anti-Vietnam War tune to Dunhill Records, who, afraid of a backlash, issued it as a non-LP single only, sending promo copies to college radio stations as a trial balloon, which resulted in some of them playing it, but it got no national attention beyond that.

Bob Relf - Girl, You're My Kind Of Wonderful (1970)

Sounds like something taken straight out of The Temptations Motown songbook.

Fun Fact: Bob Relf was part of Soul duo Bob And Earl whose "Harlem Shuffle" was later covered by The Rollling Stones.

The Guess Who - Share The Land (1970)

Maybe I'll be there to shake your hand (Shake your hand)
Maybe I'll be there to share the land (Share the land)
That they'll be givin' away
When we all live together, we're talkin' 'bout together, now

Graham Central Station - It Ain't No Fun to Me (1974)

Larry Graham's US Funk band. He had formerly been with Sly And The Family Stone.

Love me some funk. George Clinton is the man. Funny I just watched a show he put on in 99 this morning.

Dang man we never agreed on anything political but I must say you've got great taste in music.

Appreciate the kind words, I don't get many compliments on my song selections that often. Thanks.

19-Twenty - Everybody Knows (2020)

Leonard Cohen cover done in an uptempo Blues Rock style with some nice guitar work.

🎶
Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
🎶

Squiston I believe we could sit down and share a few brews. As long as we talked music and not the dreaded P word. If you know Share the land my guess your close to me in age. 60s?

There or there abouts. ;)

Yes, we could have a fun get together if we limited the discussion just to music.

I think it is a travesty that the The Guess Who has never even been nominated to be inducted into the so-called Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame despite having six US Top 10 singles (with Share The Land being the last of those).

Here they are performing Share The Land on The Johnny Cash Show.

In case anyone needs a Friday pick me up - Gang of Youths - Say Yes to Life

Stay, don't go
We're like halfway through the halftime show
Do not let this one end
Before you emerge as the winner

Hey, it's me, I'm bringing you a case of Dry
And words un-engendered **** this, dumb city sleeps in the night
And I won't leave you hanging in the wind
So let me love with a vengeance
My sad, sweet and unfinished friend
And we can go and mock the skyline now
Those bourgie windows full of dickheads
We don't know a thing about
You wanna feel absolved tonight
I've heard what you're saying, it's okay not to be so alright

But don't be alone

Did I tell you that I spent most of my sister's wedding stoned?
Say what you want with blood and bone
And stick a finger in their faces when they say you're overblown

Say yes to sun!
Say yes to pain!
Say yes to sticking with a city through a thousand days of rain!
Say yes to grace!
Say no to spite!
Say yes to this!
Say yes to you!
Say yes to me!
Say yes to love!
Say yes to life!

Say, say yes to life!

Have you ever listened to this album by them? Its not real well known but its a good listen. They were experimenting a little with psychedelia that was breaking out at the time.

No, to be honest, I never heard the entire Share The Land LP...although I do remember Hand Me Down World which was a good song too but not on the same level as Share The Land IMO.

Inga Rumpf - Breakdown (1979)

Tom Petty cover by Germany's answer to Janis Joplin.

Joan Baez : Love Is Just A Four-Letter Word (1968)

Written by Bob Dylan, although Dylan never recorded the song nor has he ever performed it live.

Segar - Night Moves (it's the mood right now)

It's always the right mood for being a little bit tall could have used a few pounds

Rita Coolidge - We're All Alone (1977)

#5 Canada
#6 UK
#7 US Hot 100

Written by Boz Scaggs for his Silk Degrees album and released also as the B-Side single of Lido Shuffle

Frankie Valli had a minor hit with it in 1976 prior to Rita Coolidge's cover.
