What to do with Boldin? (1 Viewer)

To start, I am a Boldin owner but not necessarily a Ravens fan. I have only watched the Ravens play once this year, against the Falcons in the Week 10 Thursday game. His fantasy production is so erratic...can anyone that's watched comment on why? Is it Flacco? Is he catching constant double teams? I drafted him as what I thought was a solid WR2 but he's become nothing more than a flex option...

Yeah...I now have to decide to put in Steve Johnson each week instead of Boldin...sounds easy, though the one time I relied on Johnson was last week and his 3 catches for 37 yards.

But from now on...Johnson over Boldin.

What you're addressing is the problem with non-stud WR1s in general.... they just disappear some weeks. If they didn't, they would be uber-studs and drafted in the first 2 rounds. But Boldin went in the mid-rounds and has been as consistent or more so than many of the WRs from that range (MSW anyone?).

Also he's hurt by the fact that Mason is still decent, the trade for Housh. The biggest problem this week was Heap, because the matchup was particularly soft for TEs.

Obviously you should continue to roll with Boldin as a viable WR2, but maybe bench him on occasion if you have other options. He's still excellent as a WR3. The reason why WRs aren't great options at flex is because all non-stud WRs are inherently inconsistent.

Welcome to the life of being a second-tier WR. It is no different than any other. You have your good and bad weeks. This is what you signed up for and this is what you will get

Probably a lot of ppl did that (including me). Then sent him right back to the bench only to miss on his best day of the year. What to do now? With AJ and Roddy, I am having a hard time starting him over those guys. However, this has cost me 2 losses now and probably will miss playoffs by one game because of it.Regarding Boldin and Steve J, I think you have to play whoever has the best matchup

Boldin is a good WR on a team that likes balance on O. And, Baltimore has the personnel to be balanced. It is tough to put Boldin on the bench. I thought about using Big Mike Williams as my WR3 this week instead of Boldin. I could not. I am not sure that I will ever be able to. Boldin has big potential every week.

I haven't benched Boldin all year knowing his production will be streaky. I have a bunch of WR2's, Edwards, S Smith (NYG), TO and Boldin, and I start two to three WR's each week. TO and Boldin are in my line up every week.

Boldin has had 4 bad to mediocre weeks, and each time has rebounded the next week with either a solid or very good performance. Twice he has put together two decent weeks this year. Then he has a stinker. He has never had two stinkers in a row. He'll be in my line up this week against TB.

WR's often defy matchup projections. Boldin's best week was against the Browns, his worst against Denver. How do you figure that? I can't.

I'm benching him in favor of Mike Williams and Steve Johnson. What worries me is Flacco has been productive, throwing for a lot of yards and Boldin just hasn't been benefiting. Tampa has a solid pass D and has been limiting fantasy production of WRs. Couple that with the fact that Flacco spreads it around so much and I just don't trust Boldin. With all that said I wouldn't be surprised if he goes off this week either.

I'm feeling a big week coming this week for Boldin...
Well, he didn't have a big week, and unfortunately this is becoming a habit.Any Baltimore homers? How is this playing out on talk radio? Does Boldin look bad? Does Mason just have Flacco's confidence? Or has Boldin just faced stingy coverage? I'd like to get some insight from Baltimore coaches or fans...

Yep, Boldin with another awful game. I thought he would have a good week just because that is what he has been this year, just when you want to bench him he will go off. I was dead wrong on that.

Is anyone starting him this week vs Pitt? I have to choose between him or Malcom Floyd

The guy is as tough as they come and his game is built for games against teams like Pittsburgh. I'm starting him in two leagues with confidence. I'm not saying he'll score 3tds, but I see 100yds and a TD.

It's gonna be tough for me to start Boldin again unil he shows some signs of life. Maybe the Ravens will be forced to throw if PIT can shut down Rice... I dunno.

Boldin rising from the ashes for 120 and a TD! I started him because I had no choice and wasn't excited about it, but I'll take it.

How many people actually started him? Houston next week though, so I will be rolling with him again and I imagine many will put him back into their lineups for this matchup.

Team i drafted didnt.

Isn't consistent enough to warrant a start either. Next week he will prolly be at the 3 rec 40yds area

:lmao: only as a last minute sub for Dez, the questionable ankle was a concern.

hes a high WR2 and hes about to hit that age where its either hold for life or get what you can... I might send some feelers this off-season

Anyone still starting this guy? He had a great game last time out vs Cleveland but has been a big dissapointment 4 out of the last 5 weeks.

I'm struggling mightily w/ this, and he's not even in FBG's top 50 WRs for this week. 3 TDs and 140 yds in week 3 vs. Cleve, and only four reasonable games since. If I had any decent alternatives I'd sit him but my options are the likes of Bennet, Murphy or a TE like Lewis or Watson. He'll probably end up in my lineup but I don't feel at all good about it.

Cleveland's D has been playing better since earlier in the year even though Eric Wright is out for the year. The Ravens just have too many weapons and with Rice going nuts they may throw less. Boldin would hardly get any targets when Flacco threw 30+ times. If I was in your boat I'd roll with him and pray for 60 yards in a TD. I have Mike Williams (TPA) and Stevie Johnson, both with decent matchups this week. Would you go with those guys if you had them?

I'd go w/ both of those guys over Boldin.

I do not trust Boldin anymore. Whether it's his lack of separation, or Flacco not making the ballsy throws into tight windows, he is an afterthought in this offense. You see more Flacco read Mason, then Heap/Dickson, glance at Boldin, and checkdown to Rice too many plays. If Boldin is the #1 WR, it is in name only.

Seems too risky of a start in championship week. I'd rather roll the dice with J. Stew in my flex and get a guaranteed 5 points rather than go with Boldin and get a huge goose egg.

if your only other options were Jacoby Ford, Armstrong, or Celek, do you still play Boldin or no?
Negative.Start Ford or Armstrong. Pref: Ford
The Boldin issue is serious. He hasn't done anything in weeks. If Webb is out there, he may score more than Boldin.

I benched Stewart ... My choices were Boldin, Stewart or David Harris in a flex spot. I feel like Harris is the lowest floor/lowest ceiling with 4 tackles for 4 points pretty standard lately. Boldin would have to get 5 catches for 75 yards to do that. Add in a TD and that's 3 more points. I'd be sick to my stomach if he matches that first effort against the Browns - I see no reason why he will come close, but I also talked myself into starting VJackson last week.

I have options of Breaston / James Jones / Harvin /Caldwell / LT / Green; all of them sound better than Boldin... but I know I'll just end up leaving Q in my line up

I have Boldin benched over Miles Austin.Edit: With the Andre Johnson injury...Boldin back in.

I never bench a WR who ate up the same team earlier in the year. Boldin went for 8 catches, 140+ yards and 3 TD's against CLE in week 3 or so. Should not be benched.

I have a hunch "Q" has one of his big games this weekend and will be one of the FF championship MVP's

It makes sense in theory, but the circumstances are totally different. Cleveland has been struggling to find any offense; Hillis is worn down and getting ganged up on. It's hard to believe the Browns will make this a game, even at home. Flacco spreads the ball around more and will now lean on Ray Rice in the cold against Cleveland's deteriorating run D. I really want to start Boldin, and I wouldn't be surprised if he had 80 yards and a TD, but with all the factors it would be hard for me to start him over a guy like Stevie Johnson. Bills will be playing from behind; he's the only weapon in the receiving game, and the Patriots have a suspect pass D that could allow a lot of garbage time points. Would you disagree?
