Son's 2005 Forerunner had a coolant leak that shut the engine down. Mechanic says he was able to get the car started after adding 2 gallons of antifreeze but he can hear the water pump rattling and shaking. Said even if we put $800 in it for a new water pump and timing belt, he'd expect there to be some value damage and other issues.
The car has 230k miles on it and he was definitive that we shouldn't fix it.
What do I do with the thing? I've donated two prior cars, is that still the best avenue for us to take? Our mechanic knows a guys who'd give us $200 for it.
Thoughts?
