not sanctioned by the school.  smear the queer.  best.  game.  ever.  adrenaline, fear, the works!  nothing like the hunt and the terror of being the hunted!

we also played a mean, vicious game of red rover.   i don't remember the name, but we played a version of dodgeball, that when you were out, you went behind the opposing team.  and if the ball got through them, you got to fire it back at them, from behind.
Our variation was “medic” dodgeball. If you got hit, you dropped where you were. Each team had two “medics” ,  actually wearing practice jersies with a cross on them. Their job was to go out and drag you off the court to safety so you could reenter the game.

Medics couldn’t catch the ball in self defense, and could not be rescued by the other medic.

There was also some other rule in regular games where if you could hit the opposing backboard from your foul line, everybody got back in, but if you missed you were out too.

Dang!

Was this Harvard?

I don't think I could figure all this out now!

Never heard of the weird medic rule but we definitely had a rule that if a team was down to 2 players or less and their player caught the ball, they could throw the ball at the opposite backboard (from the exact spot they caught it). If they hit the backboard, the first player out from their team was back in.

Oddly enough, I had a PE teacher with a plate in his head, but this was NOT his PTSD brainchild. That guy was a machine. He took us down to the field everyday possible and just told us to keep moving while he ran laps, stopping every 100 yards to do either pushups or situps. Did that for 6 classes a day and had been doing it since he was mom’s gym teacher 20 years earlier.

Easily floor hockey. Kicked ###. San Dimas High School not-football ruled that day!
Gotta agree. Floor hockey was the best. Even as a freshman, I was trying to wreck everyone. One time, I checked a senior through swing doors out into the hallway. A few minutes later, same dude tied up with me battling for the ball, and his boy was flying up behind me to put the pain on me. Happened to glance back just in time. I sidestepped just in the nick of time to watch him crush his friend.

They took away floor hockey after that year. And not because of our particular class. There was a class full of senior football players who ruined it for everyone.
