I can see Marvin retiring, not sure why Dungy would? From sources I have, both Tony Dungy and Marvin Harrison are definitely retiring after the season.Obviously we've seen what Indy can do without Harrison this year, but I think Dungy is a huge loss...What say you?

I don't know, but I'll be there Sunday. Go Chargers! From sources I have, both Tony Dungy and Marvin Harrison are definitely retiring after the season.Obviously we've seen what Indy can do without Harrison this year, but I think Dungy is a huge loss...What say you?
If you are asking me, it is someone who played at Syracuse with Harrison.Basically, Harrison wanted to go out at the top after the SB last year, but Dungy talked him into coming back, saying that with the Colts Harrison could win a couple more SBs and still retire on top, and vice versa - with Harrison the Colts could win a couple more. However, Dungy has "supposedly" already told the team this was his last year, and that's part of the reason Harrison was unwilling to play after the minor injury, because he felt betrayed. And now that Dungy is intent on retiring after the season, Harrison is definitely gone.Dungy supposedly is using his retirement as motivation to drive the team through the playoffs. If you were asking the other guy, he already answered. What sources?
I say you need new sources, since your current ones are selling you some bad stuff...Everyone wants to predict stuff like this, but it is usually a waste of time and energy (see "Brett Favre discussion of the past 3+ years").From sources I have, both Tony Dungy and Marvin Harrison are definitely retiring after the season.Obviously we've seen what Indy can do without Harrison this year, but I think Dungy is a huge loss...What say you?
The bolded part is illogical and doesn't pass any sort of believability test.If you are asking me, it is someone who played at Syracuse with Harrison.Basically, Harrison wanted to go out at the top after the SB last year, but Dungy talked him into coming back, saying that with the Colts Harrison could win a couple more SBs and still retire on top, and vice versa - with Harrison the Colts could win a couple more. What sources?

Why? What part of its is illogical? Why isnt it believable?I hope its wrong as I'd like to see them both back, but it makes sense that Harrison could feel betrayed if he was talked into coming back by Dungy who is now retiring. Ok here's 2 things:So Harrison feels betrayed, and is going to penalize the Colts/Dungy by not playing (after a minor injury) when he otherwise would be playing? Why? What part of its is illogical? I particularly agree with the last poster. Getting the chance to kick New England's ### in one more week is all the motivation the defending world champions need to play their hardest against San Diego.identikit said:Ok here's 2 things:So Harrison feels betrayed, and is going to penalize the Colts/Dungy by not playing (after a minor injury) when he otherwise would be playing?Blueb said:Why? That sounds exactly like the ultimate professional Marvin has been his entire career![]()
'Dungy has told his team that this was his last year'
So far this year, there's been the usual talk of Dungy retiring (as it was last year), but he told his team this year was his 'last year' because he needs to 'motivate' his team?
Dungy certainly may retire after this season, but it is completely out of character for him to try to use that to motivate. He's no saint, but he's also no manipulator of that ilk. Nor would I think it work (as his retiring has been rumored for years). No shock value in it anymore.
Besides, does anyone think players like Manning, Sanders, Clark, and Wayne needs something like that to make their best effort to repeat?
Just my![]()

Interesting insight. I didn't know Harrison was so unpopular amongst his teammates.#2 Marvin Harrison. A very weird guy. Not liked by most teammates (including Peyton), not that Marvin cares as he keeps to himself. Wouldn't surprise me if there was some "strange" stuff going on with respect to his lingering injury, although I have heard that he really should have had surgery but wouldn't try the "physical therapy" route instead. Weapons of Wayne, Gonzalez and Clark, surprisingly Marvin will not be missed either.
Disagree.I think most coaches today are hired for their specialization. Moore/Manning have been able to produce enough points to make the INDY offense SB caliber for almost a decade. Only once in the last nine years have they missed finishing in the top 5 offenses, finishing as one of the top 2 offenses in the NFL 5 times over those 9 years... truly remarkable. Before Dungy they had never finished with a defense above 15th ranked. Since Dungy was brought in he's had that defense in the top 7 in the league half the time. Dungy was brought in to transform the Colts from a great offensive team capable of winning their division to a great team capable of winning the SB. He's done that. Keep in mind they routinely spend the big $ on offense and Dungy is forced to rebuild entire units of his defense on the fly. Not just any coach can do that. No way was Dungy "along for the ride".#1 Tony Dungy is a wonderful human being. However, I feel that he is largely along for the ride on the Colts. This is Manning's team. Dungy is a diplomat and provide overall leadership, but his void could easily be filled by someone like Polian without missing a beat. I have heard this directly from "sources" over the years (including last year) that again Peyton is the leader of the Colts, Dungy is a nice guy who has been along for the ride.
I think it's for the same reasons Monte Kiffin is never brought up. Age and if they had the burning desire to be a HC they probably would have been one by now. IMO that's not a bad tact to take. I've been pretty vocal that I think Cam Cameron is a very, very good offensive mind in the NFL and he was brought into MIA to fix the offense(and was making great strides raising them up to the middle of the pack with Brown/Green/Chambers from one of the very worst units in the NFL in '06) but ultimately that team was doomed because their defense dropped from 5th in the NFL to 30th in the NFL. Was that Cam Cameron's fault? Same would hold true for Moore. Make him the HC in BAL and if they drop from 6th in yards given up to 30th he might get canned because "his" defense stunk. Why is Tom Moore's name never brought up as a coaching candidate?
I haven't heard this. Marvin is quiet and keeps to himself, but what other reason would he give others to not like him?Shows up to work every year in great shape. Works in the off-season with Manning on routes. I don't see it.Interesting insight. I didn't know Harrison was so unpopular amongst his teammates.#2 Marvin Harrison. A very weird guy.
