Slow or fast, given an apocalypse type event, there will be a lot of them. Carrying 6 magazines + one in the weapon gives you 210 rounds. Packing a shotgun, you're toting around bags full of shells? How would you carry a comparable amount of shotgun shells? Yes, 00 buck has the potential to clear a path but I still think you're better off with 5.56 or 7.62. You also have the ability to create distance with a rifle as opposed to a shotgun where you have to be fairly close to be effective. It depends on whether we're talking about fast zombies or slow zombies here. If slow zombies I'd want a shotgun just to easily clear out and pushback (if you miss the headshot) zombies that get in close. If fast zombies then yes you're going to need to mow down a bunch quickly.
See, that’s the benefit of a sword. No need to reload. Just train like aSlow or fast, given an apocalypse type event, there will be a lot of them. I'm not against slinging a shotgun on my back but as my primary, give me a semi-auto rifle all day every day when it comes to zombies.
Again with the close in work. You people are just asking to get bit. Rifles create distance, say it with me...rifles...create...distance. This is a good thing. The further you are away from the threat, the less chance said threat has the opportunity to eat you. That is a bad thing in a zombie apocalypse.See, that’s the benefit of a sword. No need to reload. Swords are fine for back up weapons but I'll happily bebop along from 300 yards out picking off fast or slow zombies from the safety of whatever I am currently in. You go be the ninja and I'll watch the festivities through my scope.
Much love brother, if you haven't please share your struggles with those you love. I lost someone close in that manner and never knew his struggles until afterwards.Used to have a handgun. Had a period several years ago with some pretty serious depression, and found myself thinking about “it.” Sold the gun and won’t get another one.

If there are 1000 zombies coming at you it doesn't matter whether you have an assault rifle or a shotgun or a sword, you're not going to kill them all. And remember only headshots stop them, and from my extensive research on the subject most zombies are going to walk right through AR rounds shot at a distance with barely a flinch.
The name of the game here is moving away from them, and having an easy/fast way to clear any off of you and create some space when some get close.
The saddest thing about this conversation is whomever is right will never get to say "I told you so" because the other one of us will be dead. Or undead.
Given the political leanings of this board, it makes sense. But the “yes” percentage almost perfectly matches the percentage in the US who own a gun (Households with a gun is a bit higher).Definitely varies culturally and demographically.Poll results were about what I would expect. No interest personally
Poll results are pretty surprising to me. Of the people I know, I would say it's pretty much the inverse of the results from this poll.
While what you say is true, there are also times when you not only don’t need one, you shouldn’t want one either.kinda surprised at the results of this pole
You don't need one until you do.
If something crazy happens at my home, I'm not waiting around for someone else to come help me.

You tend to associate with people who have shared values. Of my extended circle of friends (maybe 20 people) only one has a gun (that I’m aware of).
Appreciate the thoughts. That was several years ago, and things are much, much better now.Much love brother, if you haven't please share your struggles with those you love. I have a good friend who looked at my guns and said "yea, not for me... I'm afraid of myself". He gets pretty depressed at times. I check in with him a lot - happy to say he's been better the last two years.
I hope this is a joke, if not I'm so sorry for your loss.We got one to protect our five children, but ended up getting rid of it… To protect our four children.

Seriously lol?Yeah, but it's the .22 I got when I was like 13 or something. I voted yes, but I don't think that really counts.
Do it.Haven’t felt the need and the wife doesn’t want one in the house. My oldest boys have learned to shoot and I’ll take the youngest ones before too long.
I do have a bow and arrow along with a couple machetes and axes![]()
We’ve been thinking about getting into bows. Reusable ammo and I can do it in my back yard. Seems like a no brainer.
Sounds like reason #37 not to live in NYCown long guns, do not possess them *(yeah NYC)
.22, 30-30, 30-06 and shotgun are with my brother in west Michigan where we'll likely retire in a few years
have never owned a handgun but earned a pistol marksmanship ribbon when I served; doubt I'll get a CCP but will likely purchase a 9mm when I move back to Reformlandia
Cleveland suburbs, no guns and we are about as middle as it gets- right leaning principles but not of the 2023 iteration. Vehicle theft/break-in's are an issue (lock your car, people!), but not houses. While there are isolated homicides around here every one I'm aware of was targeted. Gotta go a few miles down the hill to run into random violence.About 2 to 1 for not owning a gun.
I assume those who don't own guns, and never will, are city dwelling, and left leaning.
Be interesting to know where in the country folks are located. I feel like in the wide open west people enjoy their firearms......I mean even if you live in Portland you can be in the sticks pretty quick........actually, I take that back......we are overpopulated out here. It sucks! Don't move here......you won't like it. Buncha gun nuts

I live in Florida where it's legal to shoot someone if they throw popcorn on you in a movie theater and you can convince your "peers" that you were fearful for your life as a result. I've never even considered buying a gunAbout 2 to 1 for not owning a gun.

I’ve never thought about whether I “need” guns or not. I just “want” and “enjoy” themNope. I always figured the odds of me doing something negligent or accidental with it were greater than the utility of the rare circumstance of where I may need it.
I think only twice in my life have I been in situations where I wished I had a firearm and in both circumstances, in hindsight, there is a real possibility my possession would have made at least one of the situations worse.
I got nothing against guns* and recreational shooting - just not my thing. So, I've never thought about wanting them or enjoying them.I’ve never thought about whether I “need” guns or not. Yea this is a sad story.......I only know what I read in an article, but it sounds like the shooter should've been prosecuted.I live in Florida where it's legal to shoot someone if they throw popcorn on you in a movie theater and you can convince your "peers" that you were fearful for your life as a result. It's not really a commentary on guns. It's a commentary on the "laws" that are in place (or not). No, he shouldn't have been prosecuted...the law doesn't require it. States like mine allow for gun owners to get bad reps with their poorly written laws. Almost all of them are written without the concept of personal responsibility as a key tenet.Yea this is a sad story.......I only know what I read in an article, but it sounds like the shooter should've been prosecuted.I live in Florida where it's legal to shoot someone if they throw popcorn on you in a movie theater and you can convince your "peers" that you were fearful for your life as a result. It's tough being a responsible gun owner. Some day only the government, and bad guys will have em......too many dipshits out there.
