What's the rule on guys getting tossed from a game? (1 Viewer)

That cheap shot on Warner (by Demps?) was pretty bad today, obviously. Normally, you get late hits on QBs when folks are rushing the passer and they just keep going. In this case, it was just a blatant attempt after the play to intimidate or hurt the QB. I don't know the rule, but I'm curious when a ref has the descrection to toss a guy from the game. It seems that willfully trying to hurt a guy when it's not simply an extension of the play (like not being able to stop when rushing the passer) should be one such instance. But I don't know what the actual rule is so I thought I'd ask...

I'm an Eagles fan, and I agree. Demps should have been tossed.

I was even more pissed at Demps when he tried that lame-#### shoulder tackle on Fitzgerald at the 2 yard line. You know...when he bounced off and Fitzgerald walked across.

Maybe I'm just spoiled by the hard hitting Dawkins, but that was terrible.

If you want to get even more pissed, watch his attempt at tacking Hightower at the 2 yard line as he's going in for the go-ahead touchdown.I guess noone taught him that you're allowed to grab onto the guy with the football.

...or his falling down when trying to cover Fitzgerald on his second TD. To be fair, he should never have been in single coverage on Fitz, trick play or no.

The shot by Demps was one of the cheapest moves I've seen. Should have been tossed. Hopefully the league will make his wallet a LOT lighter.

I couldn't figure out why he was on the filed so much. They never said anything about Dawkins or Mikell getting hurt....or maybe he was just a target every time he stepped in to give one of them a blow?

He's still young, but he was a fairly high pick (third????), and more was expected of him then this.

He plays regularly in the dime package -- usually it's him as the 6th DB instead of Lito these days. I don't remember seeing Lito on the field at all.

Thanks for the discussion. I just remembered something I would add to the mix. Several years ago, Sean Taylor was ejected from the Washington-Tampa Bay playoff game for spitting into the face of Michael Pittman. So they will definitely eject you from a playoff game for upsportsmanlike conduct. The question is -- what is the criteria. Why is spitting so much more heinous than actually striking an opponent who is unaware and unprotected. I'm just wondering if there is any set criteria officials follow or if it's just a matter of the officials kind of making whatever call they think is appropriate, which would vary from official to official...
