What's Your Biggest Mistake This Year? (1 Viewer)

Playing re-draft fantasy football in the first place. :ptts:

In all seriousness, I am still stuck in an old-school mind set apparently. My league lets you start up to 3 RBs, Footballguys weighs heavily in favor of the position when I entered my league scoring in their draft applications, and I am always to load up on them. But I kept CJ Anderson and drafted Jeremy Hill in the first round. Championship, right? No sayonara.

When I drafted my dynasty league team, I took a much more youth-oriented, WR focus, which is understandable. However, I would argue that's the only way to draft anymore. I will learn eventually.

Drinking the Lamar Miller Cool Aid, and drafting him 3.6 in one $$ league.

Drafting Jeffery as my WR1 in 3rd round in my other $$ league.

Drafting Cooks and Randle in both of my $$ leagues (and probably overpaying for them).

Abdullah and Spiller as my Rb3 timeshare in three ppt leagues.

Still confounded over the idiotic offense in Detroit. Why Riddick is getting the touches instead of AA.....

Two guys I worked to acquire in my dynasty leagues during the off season.

James White

Taylor Gabriel

Figured there was some value there. Could have paid less for Lewis and Benjamin.

AA has more fumbles than good plays this year.

Riddick is a very good weapon out of the backfield. The real question should be why Bell is still getting touches other than short yardage, and why Riddick and Abdullah can't be on the field at the same time, even put one in the slot and one in the backfield.

Overpaying for Travis Kelce thinking he could be kinda like Gronk. I would have been better of picking up a free agent TE off waivers. It's still Gronk and everyone else.
Eifert 24-312-5Gronk 20-375-4

Eifert is right there with Gronk (more receptions and TDs, less yards)
*Gronk 4 games, Eifert 5 games
Very true. I forgot about the Pats week 4 bye. I still don't think it's "Gronk and everyone else" but regardless mea culpa
;) The reply I was looking for was a per game average, almost identical reception and TD averages.

I almost never take QBs early, but this year I already had a loaded team heading into the fourth and figured it would be nice to not have to always worry about who to start or what matchup is where. So I picked a guy who always has big numbers in a great offense and never misses games: Peyton Manning.

That doesn't even sound all that dumb, but just today I looked back at the draft and realized I passed on Tom Brady... after the suspension was overturned.

At this point I'm honestly not sure how I'm smart enough to remember to keep breathing.

I have only one major blunder - I dropped James jones rt before week 1. I dropped him for dion Lewis which softens the blow BUT I had other guys I could have dropped. Like Alfred blue.

Doing MFL10s. My ROI in those is not good. Winning is hard. Next year I will only do a couple as draft prep

Actually, I'm leaning toward doing only Dynasty and DFS in the future. No redraft

Drafting Olsen in the 5th :wall:
Really?
Drafting Olsen in the 5th :wall:
Really?
I drafted Gronk in the 2nd, all worked out (see spoiler), but no one wants olsen in trade thus far.
Can you not flex a TE? If not, then that was a stupid move taking olson there.

If you can, then I'm pretty sure that's still a solid move. If your biggest regret is not even a regret, then you're fine.

Biggest mistake? Thinking that any amount of studying and research makes one iota of difference in ff or that skill exists in any crevice of it.

Everything I touched this off-season turned up roses. I was all over eifert and dion Lewis and David Johnson, etc. I completely ignored cj Anderson, Roddy, etc. I went bold on Brady, telling everyone that would listen that he would beat the NFL. I had all the answers.

BUT. Here I sit, mediocre teams across the board at the moment, a victim of every big name injury, every bad beat (I scored second highest...Guess who I played this Week scenarios), every nobody joker that had his best game ever on the weeks I played them. You name it, I have been slapped in the face with it.

The one team that I have that is crushing it right now is a team I drafted Freeman on because he lit me up in Madden the night before my draft.

I mean, honestly, the biggest mistake is thinking that this year is different, that I have any control over the uncontrollable, that any amount of reason guides a person to be any good at this stuff.

Assuming this is redraft..

Not buying the Pats offense outside of Gronk(and being a week late on the Dion Lewis train).

Andrew Luck has been a big disappointment but if healthy I full expect a big 2nd half for him.

Also wish I had more Gurley stock, this guy is a beast.

Tannehill over Brady...haha, i'm's an idiot. Abdullah, Calvin...thinking Detroit and Miami would have sustainable NFL offenses, ugh. Jeremy Hill? Thank god for alcohol

Drafting Andrew Luck in 3 of my leagues.

And thinking that Jimmy Graham might still be Jimmy Graham, and that the Seahawks would never bring in a premier pass catching TE just to enact some harebrained scheme of turning him into Heath Miller.

I dropped Freeman in both of my leagues after week 2. :bag:
Just one league but ditto. Although at the time it seemed like Coleman was the man,.
Same. My other draft picks include Jamaal Charles and CJ Anderson (keeper) at RB, Big Ben and Romo at QB, Sammy Watkins and Roddy White at WR, and Jimmy Graham at TE. On a positive note, my K and D have been ok.

Not listening to my gut and taking that 1st rounder + I was offered multiple times pre-season for CJ Anderson.

Or perhaps over-riding my gut and spending an 2nd on Jeremy Hill?

Panicking in a salary cap dynasty league where I kept getting shut out of big name WR's so spent 28% of my budget on one guy...Mike Evans?

Can't be too upset though. Had a gut feeling on Freeman and own him in fully half of my leagues. Currently a winning record in 9 of 10 leagues .

Picking up, and dropping, CMike like 3 times since the trade...most recently dropping him on Tuesday due to Charles injury and finding out the next day that he may be the starter.

Thought he was in coaches doghouse after 1 carry for 6 yards, then getting pulled...they have BYE this week...eff me.

Brees/Cooks. Wasted 5th Rd pick on Kelce when I could've gotten Eifert 4 rounds later (I even had that marked as a comment in my Excel cheat cheat).

Reading this thread makes me feel a little better. I'm in the "I dropped Freeman" club of shame :( It was after week 1. I watched that first Falcons game, and for all the world Coleman looked like the guy to own (with Freeman being the less talented 3rd down back). Hell, FBG made the comment after week 1 about Freeman that he wasn't worth a roster spot (except in the deepest leagues). I already felt deep at RB (also having Gore, Forsett, Abdullah with Foster and Blount on the bench waiting to come back). On the other hand, week 1 decimated me at WR losing Dez and DJax. So I dropped Freeman for a WR ... Stevie Johnson :yucky:

I wish Freeman would at least go a week without scoring 25+ points. But he always does, and it makes me hate myself.

Ya it's very rare for a player to be drafted, then dropped, then put up monster numbers like this. It's gonna be a painful 'what if' season for all those who dropped him.

I got really lucky. I dropped him for a day then scooped him back up as no one took him during that day.

My list of "big mistakes" is close to endless in my life. Err, I mean in fantasy this year. :P

Drafting Jeremy Hill is probably the one I will regret the most, in my biggest $$ league.

I was slick enough to get Gio Bernard later in the same draft, and I made sure by reaching a couple rounds to make sure.

Its been a situation where owners are screwed, because when he had 2 bad games, and you bench him, then he goes off for 3 TDs, then you play him and its another pile of rubbish.

Thats death to a point total and a team ultimately.

So going against my "always go WR-WR in the first two rounds" rule has been my biggest mistake in that sense.

(in 2 other leagues I was randomly drawn #1, which I detest, but I was steadfast and took Julio #1 overall, so thats been good)

But on the running back note, all my running backs every year are ultimately a pile of ####, no matter who I draft, so I'm used to mediocre production there..... its been that way since 2007 for me.

I seriously haven't had one of those "monster running backs" since the days of Brian Westbrook.

These guys that get 22-25 points in standard from a RB are living in a dream world that I just don't comprehend.

Seriously, the guys that landed DeVonta Freeman, thats a joke. He looked awful last year and even if he was proclaimed the outright starter preseason (which he wasn't) , no human could have forecasted this.

Wait a minute though........ I think did have Jamaal Charles on one single squad in 2013, but other than that, its been mostly middling guys to low end RB2s I always deal with and juggle.

Drafting Alfred Morris. Ugh.

I'm almost there with Megatron, but he's played a tough schedule so far. I think he'll get back to his old numbers soon.

Virtually all my players on my two teams

Dez Bryant

Jeremy Hill

Mike Evans

Jamaal Charles

Really the only thing that's saved my teams from being terrible is picking up Dion Lewis in both. I see a .500 season.

I also cut Freeman after week 2 (for Matt Jones).

Thing is, I still don't think he's that great. But I underrated his situation.
I went back and checked and I actually cut him for Eifert after week 1.

Not as terrible, but I still wish I'd held him.

The team that picked him up is 1st in points and in 2nd place.

Drinking the Spiller Kool Aid.....thinking that he would easily replicate the Darren Sproles role in NO. Drafted him in all 3 of my leagues....already cut him in one league.

Wow, how could I have been so wrong?
