Auction draft is the only fair way.... everyone has same shot for every player... I am trying to find a dynasty myself now and I will only go auction because it is the fairest way to go.
what site does this for you?
Standard ops a commish of mine uses:
1. Go to this site http://www.rpglibrary.org/software/securedice/
2. Enter these parameters. Roll 6 d 100 +0, and sum them all. Roll the set of dice 1 times. Send the results to (commish email) with the subject Your Team Name; note that you can also send them to yourself and include two email addresses (mine and yours).

as a commish I always use this for my draft leagues.

My leagues use these to generate an order, but instead of it being the draft order, we allow the owners to pick their draft spot based on the order. So whoever draws the highest number (if using high to low) would get to pick their draft spot, then the next highest picks, and so on.

That's exactly what we do. We use one of the various dice servers out there and do it KDS.

yeah this is great too, just did this for a start up dynasty last week. The way we worked it was that there were separate rookie and vet drafts so whatever draft slot you selected for the vet draft, you got the opposite position for the rookie draft...i.e If it was a 16 team league and you selected the 2 slot for the vet, you got the 15 rookie slot.That's exactly what we do. Use dice rolling. It's the best way to go IMO. Each owner rolls based on your criteria and the results are emailed to both you and the team rolling. You email your results to someone in the league to post. I've heard that those order randomizers can be manipulated based on the order and time of day you enter them. Not sure if that's true or not, but I'm not taking that chance.

Sportsline has a random draft order generator, we used that our first year.
If you do a live draft, it's much more fun to do a random drawing from a hat on draft day.

Auction is the best way for parity, but here's how my redraft does every year.
Draw out of a hat, first person drawn chooses their slot. 2nd person chooses one fo the 11 remaining slots, and so on and so forth.

in one league, for a little fun, we started with a golf tourney with handicaps.....winner got to choose draft spot, second place then got to pick slot and so on....of course we were all local, but that doesn't sound like your situation....
if you are wanting to have a little fun with it and you have guys all over the place, maybe do an online poker tournment or something with the same concept as above....
