I think the Republican Party is currently easier to define. It’s the party of Trump. It doesn’t matter any longer that some didn’t want him or whatever...the party nationally has rallied around him completely. There are still some small factions inside...but for the most part the party is behind Trump.
Democrats now are at an interesting time. From another thread a poster talked about the timing of a third party from the Sanders side of the more democratic socialist ideology. This seems to be growing with that progressives are flocking to nationwide. The young part of the party (which is kind of funny with Bernie being the sort of defecto head). And then the more moderates that will still be called far left by some.
I think most times you might see that splinter happen...for example, of we currently had President Rubio or Kasich from the GOP or even had Hillary won and the progressives not happy with her...I think you’d see a possible push for that. But in the current environment, I don’t think the democrats can afford to do that.
Just curious how others see it now and where we may be in 5-10 years.
