He's somewhere around Michael J Fox good. Which isn't all that good. Teen Wolf is arguably as good as anything Keanu has ever done.
bite your tongueFox can act circles around Keanu, even with the shakes
:lmao: His scenes on Rescue Me were better than anything Reeves has ever done.

I don't think he's an actor. He seems like the same guy in every movie... he's just being himself.
Watch the aforementioned River's Edge and My Own Private Idaho - you'll probably feel differently.
Rivers Edge is a great movie
Which has nothing whatsoever to do with Reeves' acting ability.

:goodposting: And I'd disagree that he played his roles any different than he always does in those two, very good despite his performance, movies. [/crispin glover + river phoenix]

I don't think he is a good actor, but he has probably done more films that I have enjoyed in the last 20 years than any other actor. So while he is not that great, I don't think he is so bad that he kills a movie.

In no particular order...

Alec Baldwin, Bruce Willis, Tom Hanks, Anthony Hopkins, Daniel Day Lewis, Javier Bardem, Russell Crowe, Willem Dafoe, James Spader, Rovert DeNiro, Joe Pesci, Guy Pierce, Tommy Lee Jones, Tobey McGuire, Michael Douglas, Jeremy Irons, Jack Nicholson, John Travolta, Samuel Jackson, Denzel Washington, Sean Penn, Joaquin Phoenix, Jonny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Dustin Hoffman, Clive Owen,

Comdic Actors that are better include Steve Martin, John Candy, Bill Murry, Jim Carrey, Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughan, Will Ferrell,

Supporting types like Steve Buscemi, Peter Stormare, William H Macy, Danny Huston, Ray Winstone, Joe Pantaliano, Geoffrey Rush, Michael Caine, Alan Rickman,

I can keep going all day BF, Keanu is one of the worst actors on the planet. Some of his movies are entertaining but it isn't because of anything he does...one of the worst by far...PUKE!!!

Like someone else mentioned, he doesn't kill movies for me. His acting is a little stilted but when he plays rolls that are probably close to his real personality, like in Sweet November, he's easier to get lost into. He has an interesting presence, alluring in a distinct and odd way...liked him as Constantine :goodposting: Would put him around Bill Pullman (who should have been Prof. Langdon in the Dan Brown movies) or Thomas Jane.

Everyone I listed has been nominated for a best actor or supporting actor since the mid 80s when Reeves got started...he's north of 45 now so what do you think is his generation?

Does a different voice for every character he has ever played. His role as Drexel is nice but how bout the bad cop in "The Professional"...I feel spinoff thread coming.

I think that nails it.It's not so much that he's some master thespian. He has what's called 'watchability.' He tries to take different roles, and I know for certain he takes his craft very seriously - regardless of our opinions of the results...He's Ted Theodore Logan, for God's sake! A character for the ages!I remember watching "A Walk in the Clouds" and not once wincing. The story was pretty cool and before I knew it, I was caught up and the thing was over. And I was affected. I had to remind myself that I wasn't supposed to like it...Here's my capper: do you know hard it is to keep one's face Easter Island-statue-still whilst jumping and flipping in bullet-motion ballet? It's HARD. He does it well. And he's purty.

Right, it's the old movie star versus actor question. Many movie stars can't act their way out of a wet paper bag. But in the right role they are :moneybag: Amongst those, I'd include such luminaries as Tom Cruise, Clint Eastwood, Sylvester Stallone.

Keanu Reeves waited outside in the rain for 20 minutes before getting into the premiere party of his own movie, Daughter of God. Reeves apparently didn’t want to drop any celebrity lines to the bouncers because suffering through obstacles in monk-like fashion simply garners him more #####. Or he just figures my life is easy enough already. Plus, I’m stoned out of my gourd so I’ll just stand here and sing Behind Blue Eyes in my head for a while. Why go inside just to get bothered by these desperate chicks in stilettos. I can’t wait to get home anyway, pour a thrice malted scotch and stare into my cat’s eyes while somebody I mostly hope is a girl drains my body of semen until I can think clearly again. I wish him the best. If this dude can’t be a #####y mystic what hope do the rest of us have?

This dude is by many accounts far and away one of the nicest guys in Hollywood. Doesn't make him a great actor (or even a good one), but it sure adds to his likability. He's not a good actor but I'm often entertained by his works.

Thank god this five year old thread got a bump so I could learn that Reeves stood in line for 20 minutes.

Where do you rank Keanu Reeves within his generation?
I think he is near the top. He has been showcased in some of the best movies of our time. He isn't there yet but if they do make a third Bill and Ted's adventure, that movie will push him over the edge of greatness. Just need that one movie to do it.
