Great start! The artists in red are on my long list of 92 tracks.

shuke and otb_lifer with the first Deja Vote of the countdown! And it's an interesting and (to me) unexpected one...

A.Y.S.F.K.M.??!?

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

million to one shot - totally SHUKED with this unforseen turn of events :oldunsure:

REASONS OTB SHOULD "OWN" IT:

1. I'm paisan 🇮🇹
2. I had a nifty paranthetical i begged K4 off using
3. I have long referred to it as "Peas n' Carrots"
4. Did i mention that i am, indeed, Italiano?

🤘

My top 5 from the 1 point round, excluding my own selection and prior to listening to the songs new to me:
  1. worrierking: The Chain - Fleetwood Mac
  2. New Binky the Doormat: Under The Milky Way - The Church
  3. Dr. Octopus: Grave Digger - Dave Matthews Band
  4. scorchy: Open Letter (To A Landlord) - Living Colour
  5. Hawks64: Lights - Journey
Admittedly, there are a lot of songs in the list with which I am not familiar, and I assume that will be the case throughout, so I might have a different list if I had time to listen to all of those, but I'm not sure when that will be.

Unlike some in this thread, I'm a big Dave Matthews fan. I know Management has decreed that she will not distinguish between Dave Matthews and Dave Matthews Band, but, for the record, this song is from his solo album. :geek:

Under the Milky Way and all Living Colour songs off their Vivid album alway remind me of great college memories. 👍

Strong start!

@higgins I was unable to find The weight - Jimmy Page with Jack White and The Edge.

dammit ...I am the one that submitted my list upside down. I feel so bad for @krista4 - and have apologized profusely

since we were posting from #31 ranked down to #1 ranked - I submitted my rankings that way

wanted to own up - and take the abuse ...

oh the irony of the whole "higher/lower" schtick

reaction.

You didn't need to out yourself, and you've apologized plenty. It was just a mistake with nothing nefarious intended.

Looking at the bright side, I usually have nine documents running at this time but haven't had a chance to put together the last two yet, so I'll only need to change your entries on seven different documents.

Also on the bright side, I won't have to change your 16-pointer!

Also also on the bright side, WA doesn't have laws that restrict what time one can buy alcohol.

The Chain - Fleetwood Mac - England/US

This is my favorite of many FM songs I like. It began as the end jam with the great bass line from John, and the Lindsay solo. They needed a song to go with that and Stevie brought the main section out to connect to the back end. The "Chain, Keep Us Together" motif was in response to the three breakups going on in the band and the desire to keep the music and the cash flowing. It was a great idea, negated completely by their late-career personnel shenanigans.
The Americans TV show made great use of this song

Right?!? I thought you were going to be shuked by this!

Please note the following, which I'm calling "The Tom Petty Effect," for purposes of the daily posts. Unlike in the first countdown when everyone felt it necessary to say when something was him vs. him with the Heartbreakers, I'm not going to distinguish between some iterations of what will be considered the same artist for tabulation purposes. This will make it much, much easier on our spreadsheet mavens as well. So for this one, I'll be using the following (the rule might apply to other artists as well, but these immediately come to mind):

- Neil Young iterations will all be called "Neil Young." You needn't post to tell me which should include Crazy Horse.
- Wings iterations will all be called "Wings." You needn't post to tell me which should include "Paul McCartney and".
- Bob Marley iterations will all be called "Bob Marley." You needn't post to tell me which should include the Wailers.
- John Lennon and Yoko Ono iterations will all be called "John Lennon and Yoko Ono." You needn't post to tell me which should include the Plastic Ono Band.

Thank you.
Management.
I give it two rounds tops before someone does just that.

You were off by a round.

:hifive: Unfortunately, my current favorites from the band aren't actually on any album or Live Trax that is on Spotify :kicksrock:

shuke:

Prisencolinensinainciusol - Adriano Celentano - Italian

Some info on this gem that otb is trying to steal from me:

The song is intended to sound to its Italian audience as if it is sung in English spoken with an American accent, however the lyrics are deliberately unintelligible gibberish with the exception of the words "all right". Andrew Khan, writing in The Guardian, describes the sound as reminiscent of Bob Dylan's output from the 1980s. Celentano's intention with the song was not to create a humorous novelty song but to explore communication barriers. The intent was to demonstrate how English sounds to people who do not understand the language proficiently. "Ever since I started singing, I was very influenced by American music and everything Americans did. So at a certain point, because I like American slang—which, for a singer, is much easier to sing than Italian—I thought that I would write a song which would only have as its theme the inability to communicate. And to do this, I had to write a song where the lyrics didn't mean anything."

I can only work so fast man...sheeesh :lmao:
Sorry, I thought you had an inside track, or Krista gave you the list the night before. Didn't mean to rush, or sound ungrateful. You are doing the lords work. Thank you!
Just messing around, all good. I do try and make sure I'm around when late morning/noonish so I can it posted shortly after she posts.

Of the songs I know, these are my favorites from this list (excluding my own).

Love the Liars pick. I had no idea the lead singer was Australian. Would've made my top 31 if I had.

@krista4 in my one hit wonder thread you posted about meeting the lead singer of the Church once and how pretentious he was. I loved that story, please repeat it for everyone.
Sorry, krista doesn’t do requests.
But I wrote please

It's really not much of a story, though.

Ex-Mr. krista opened for Marty Willson-Piper of The Church at a show in Chicago. Ex-Mk was really into the guy's music, though I couldn't have cared less about it. Another friend and I got roped into doing the merch sales for him. He didn't have someone arranged? I guess he figures he can get a hanger-on to do it. He was just a pretentious, condescending dooooooooosh to us and complained that we hadn't sold more or pushed the stuff he wanted to push (which he didn't tell us in advance). Acted like we were his servants rather than people doing him a favor. I also understand that it's customary for the artists to tip out a portion to the merch salespeople, but he gave us squat (other than crappy attitude).

Surprised Journey qualified here but, as usual it’s the drummer.

I was surprised to see them on there and vetted that one as a result, but it turned out they were only partially eligible in the US countdown.
Are we really to believe some one actually likes that William Hung song?

I get the Thumper Rule - but to me this comes across more as someone trolling us here, so not sure they deserve the respect of that rule.

I’ll refrain from any further discussion of same though.

I think it's a reasonable question to ask on that one.

not only that, but qualifying with my personal fave of theirs ... before the gargantuan commercial leap that lay ahead for them.

my first visit there were in summer '88, and the travel log i read on the plane described the descent over the bay as akin to seeing OZ, what with how brilliantly all the white shined and glistened - it certainly did not disappoint, and wish i coulda had "Lights" blasting in my ears as we made our final approach.

was loooong my second favorite city - hell, even giving the City a run for #1 spot for a spell.

Damn. Sad to hear he's such a jerk. I love their music and they continue to produce pretty good albums to this date---26 albums deep now I think?

Didn't he refuse to play Under The Milky Way in concert for a while?

It's like dooshy Harrison Ford never wasting a chance to talk about how much he disliked the Han Solo role - until, I'm guessing, each paycheck reminds him he loves it.

I've seen them a couple times in the past few years and they played it both times. But, given krista's description of him, that wouldn't surprise me.
