Is there a Hanoi comeback in the works? A re-release of Oriental Beat, remixed with a total new sound (I can attest to that as I've listened to it on Spotify), the physical release of which debuted at #1 on the Finnish charts. 500,000 plays for "Fallen Star," the ballad of the album because it was used in the series Peacemaker on HBO Max.
I smell a Hanoi revival.
I'm glad people picked up on "Kill City Kills." Nobody even sniffed at "Pretender" at #28, a song I thought encapsulated everything Hanoi did well, up to and including flaming guitar solos, saxophone riffs (sorry, krista4!), ethereal backing vocals, and rock and roll sloppiness with a time signature change and stomp about teenage youth running riot.
Well mommy and daddy think I am a fool
cause I told them I'd leave for you
Won't hear about no Pretenders anymore
There'll be a rockabilly teenage party on Saturday night
I'll find a new chick and I'll pull her all night
Well I don't care what the people might say
As long as I go wild all night
Pretender...such a sweet Pretender...the dirty things that we do
Just you and me
I never could figure out exactly where Pretender stood in this world, but it's okay, we can gloss over things such as that, right? Rock n' roll! Dudes and ladies!
