Where's Mendenhall? (1 Viewer)

Is he still being punished for his fumbling in pre-season or what. Fast Wille can't get anything going yesterday and Mendenhall doesn't get a carry?? And Mewelde Moore gets in at the end? C'mon. What's up with this.

Mewelde goes in on passing situations/3rd downs. They were playing catch-up so Moore was in.

My guess is Tomlin is concerned about the fumbling. He'll get his time to show what he's got soon enough.

I saw Mendenhall in for a couple of plays fairly late in the game. First play, easy screen pass - dropped. My guess is his hands (and maybe blocking) are a concern-? Besides with a quesitonable OL I think you'd want a guy w/the better burst in there most of the time. That said, I am kinda surprised he isn't getting more time.

Mendenhall has talent, but he hasn't shown enough against NFL competition to earn any PT.

He had a poor camp and didn't show much against the ones in pre-season. I've said it repetitively he runs with poor pad level which doesn't allow him to generate the power a guy his size should and also results in poor ball security. He was indecisive and only gained yardage when an obvious hole was blocked for him. His feet were slow and he didn't make anybody miss.

These should be correctable flaws, but Tomlin isn't giving him reps based on his draft status alone.

If nothing has changed from pre-season, he would be more of a liability than assest on the field at this point.

He's very young and has time, but is far more of a project than I ever thought he would be.

:lmao: Mendenhall is a guy that most of the FF community simply misjudged. Too many folks bought into the hype, and ignored the red flags. And obviously Willie Parker's demise was greatly exaggerated.I think we'll see small incremental upticks in Mendenhall's role as 2008 progresses, but he'll never get close to being startable this year, unless Parker goes out.

From the Philly game this is what I recall:

1) screen pass to Mendehall dropped (well thrown ball)

2) Mendahall missed a blitz coming over the right guard...he was reading potential blitz to the left side and let Roth (or was it Leftwich..can't recall) get sacked

3) short dump pass to Mendehall that he took 7-10 yds and picked up a 1st down. He looked really strong on this run, even better than Parker would have done

So my guess is this guy has talent, but he has been a slow learner and Tomlin doesn't want to rush him in while Willie is playing well. Dynasty owners stay patient, he still has stud potential. Redraft owners might see fantasy productivity late in the season from this guy so it depends on you desperation and whether you have room to carry him as dead weight for the 1st half of the season on your roster. An injury to Parker and he'll be forced into RBBC right away though with Moore and the other Pitt RB (Gary "somebody").

The Steelers only ran 15 times and completed one pass to RBs yesterday which is crazy considering the difficulty they had with pass protection. Mendenhall is going to get his opportunity first when the Steelers are up late in the game and they want to grind the clock out. Obviously that was not in the cards yesterday.
