Which team is Peyton Manning rooting for today? (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
The Chargers win, and he goes to beautiful San Diego against a so-so pass defense.

The Pats win, and the Colts play at home.... against their worst nightmare.

The Chargers win, and he goes to beautiful San Diego against a so-so pass defense the number one pass rush in football.

The Pats win, and the Colts play at home.... against their worst nightmare a team they already beat this year away.

PM me when Manning and the Colts beat Belichick and Brady in January.
Why would I PM you? You would probably already know. They don't match up well against either team, but I imagine they would prefer to play at home.

Don't be so sure. What reason would I have to watch that matchup? The Washington Generals would have a better shot against the Globetrotters.

The Colts would certainly prefer to play the Pats over the Chargers.

This Manning in the playoffs against the Patriots stuff is pure bunk. In 2001, the Pats swept the Colts in the regular season, winning two blowouts. In 2002, the teams didn't play. In 2003, the Colts lost to the Pats at home and then lost in the playoffs on the road. In 2004, the the Colts lost to the Pats on the road, and then lost to the Pats at home.

To recap, the Colts are now 0-6 against the Patriots, including three games in Indianapolis. The Colts stunk against NE in the regular season, and stunk against NE in the playoffs.

The Pats had a good amount of turnover since then. And guess what? In 2005, the Colts beat the Patriots in Foxboro. In 2006, the Colts beat the Patriots in Foxboro. Do you really think they'd be afraid of playing NE at home??

If history holds, the team that won in the regular season would win in the playoffs. From 2001-2004, the Pats were always the better team, and that's why they won. In 2005, the Colts were clearly the better team, and they won. This year, I think the Colts were the better team at the time they played, although I think NE might have been the better team this year.

But there's little reason to think "Manning against the Patriots in the playoffs" scares the Colts at all, unless the Pats are bringing back Romeo Crennell, Charlie Weis, Eric Mangini, Joe Andruzzi, Deion Branch, David Givens, Ted Johnson, Ty Law, Willie McGinest, David Patten and Adam Vinatieri.

BB scares Peyton more than anyone else. He can't shut up about him the week before they play the Pats, every time they do. What other coach does he talk that much about?

The Colts left the AFC East but they still play the Pats every year and they're still very familiar as if they're division opponents.

The last time the Colts and Pats played, the Colts won in Foxboro. The last time the Colts and Chargers played, the Colts lost in Indianapolis. Do you really think the Colts would rather play at San Diego (where they're a five point dog) than at home vs. New England (where they're a three point favorite)?

I can tell you that as Colts fans, we were unanimously chanting "Let's go Patriots after the win last night, in a packed bar after the game. I mean 500 strong!

The Colts don't fear the Patriots. BB and the boys had better teams when they beat the Colts.

The Colts at home -3 is basically a pickem in Vegas eyes with the 3 point home field advantage. I'd love the Colts in that scenario!

When NE beats the Chargers today, BB and Brady will be talked about like crazy from the talking heads. Noone will credit the Colts for going into Baltimore and beating the #1 Defense in football.

I just hope I get to use my 2 tickets to the game!

Post game: manning said "be careful what you wish for" when asked about next weeks opponent.

I would think most colts fan want the patriots at home. I believe manning is saying chargers.

I could care less just so grateful they will play in the afc championship, and have a chance to win.

Go Colts

I don't think it matters. I think you always prefer a playoff homegame and SD was the best team in the AFC this year so I guess you want NE to win if you're the Colts. I think they beat either team though so it really doesn't matter.

Both teams would be very tough. I'd rather get the home game because:

1. Colts D plays better on turf

2. I'd like the experience of going to an AFC championship game.

I agree with Doc Detriot - Indy has a great shot to beat

either New England or San Diego. That said, the Chargers have a more explosive offense and defense than the Patriots, so if I'm and Indy homer I'd rather play the Pats in my crib.

The Patriots, of course. The last two years have proven that Belichick does not own the Colts. If NE wins today, the Colts beat them next week and then win the Super Bowl.

However, if the Chargers win today, as well as the Colts defense has played, I am not sure they can keep it up against the Chargers offense.

No question Indy wants NE to win, as Chase said, why wouldn't they want a home game against a team they already defeated this year.

As a NE fan I certainly would have preferred a road game against BAL than 1 against INDY. Of course I would prefer a road game against either one of them than one in San Diego

Should be a great game, I can't help but worry that the combination of LT and the late season injuries to Seau & Harrison may be too much to overcome.

I am confident NE's D will be at least OK, LT and Gates will get their yards and do some damage but I don't think it will be a blowout. I am more concerned with the NE offense and IMO they need to be nearly flawless there in order to win. Big games out of Brady, Maroney and maybe a WR like Jackson will be mandatory if NE is to win.

Can't wait

Well, since Brady is Mr. Clutch, I think he can do it. I like their chances going deep on the Chargers.

The Chargers are a paper champion in my estimation. They gave up a lot ofpoints and scored enough to win. If their defense doesn't come up bigtime, Brady and the Pats move on.

Here to an Indy homer being the Biggest Patriots supporter on the board today!

Not that I want to play NE, but I want to use my 2 tickets to the AFC Championship game. What fun that would be.

Had they not been hurt, that might have been the story of the game. Both players are majorly bummed I'm sure not to be out there today.

Me too! I was pumped for it last year and then got my hopes crushed. I want to go to an AFC Champ. game!

Indy would probably lose against SD in SD.

Indy would probably beat NE in Indy.

I don't think there's any question of who they would rather get.

True. But can Phillip Rivers keep up with Peyton Manning in a shootout? I say no.

It's interesting, though, that in both 2003 and 2004, if the Colts had beaten the Patriots in the regular season they'd have had a higher playoff seed in each season. It's particularly interesting in 2004, since the Colts were just a missed Vandy FG (as always) away from potentially winning the season-opener. Had the rest of the season played out the same way the Patriots would have had to play Denver in the 1st round.
